Still, I would like to write some thoughts about: “But I guess I worry about what happens if that changes.”
Of course you might have a different point of view of my thoughts :-)
Every hour that we are living brings us one hour closer to the moment where we will pass away. Being aware of that fact, I concentrate on each day, or some people say on each moment.
What I would like to say is that I believe that the quality of time one spends with a loved one can be more important, brings deeper joy and happiness than the quantity of time. Therefore I try to create every hour with a loved one as joyful, fulfilling as possible. Maybe this approach can give you some peace of mind and fewer worries about what the future will be. I wish both of you a wonderful time together.

Maybe you could contact a travel agency in a country where people speak your language (your languages). You could ask the agency for a package (country of your choice) without the flight.
Then you could fly by yourself to the destination where the group starts the trip and join the group there.

If that is the main reason for not buying a bike in Thailand then it depends if you have a special bike in your mind like BMW, KTM, 1000ccm and above. Then it's getting difficult.
If you are looking for a bike, racing, touring, 650 ccm (Honda, Kawasaki, about Yamaha I'm not sure) then you have some choices to get a bike that will cost you around the same as in Europe.
There also some foreigners, like myself who are selling their bikes that have been well maintained. I sold a Kawaski with less than 10k kilometers for 70% down from the new price and soon I will sell another Honda with less than 7k kilometers. Maybe you can just look around and you will find a bike that suits you. That might be a more economical solution. Good luck!-

Jack, I lived in in Phuket, Pattaya for over six years. during that time I heard similar stories xxxx times. Girls who have been proud with three or more boyfriends form abroad, working in a restaurant, one day for free before their lover arrived and so on. In my experience, ninety percent of Thai ladies lie and the same applies to the foreigners.
BUT I like your attitude towards this girl and that's why I'm responding to your post. As I mentioned above, there are a few percent left in favor of both of you. Even if it would not work out, I still believe that it will be a precious experience for both of you.
Maybe you could ask yourself if you are willing, ready to have this experience or not without focusing too much on the outcome. I believe that every person that you meet has some kind of meaning for you. And I'm guessing that from what you wrote that this girl has touched you in some way.
If you decide to go on then from a practical point of view, it's not about money, but you cannot leave any person for two years in a war and then come back and expect to meet the same person again. She and you will have changed. During this time this girl will get hurt a lot and will have many scars. Maybe the scars will heal, maybe not. Therefore the time frame for the next time you can be together, seems (just from my experience) to be the most important task.

curtklay, if you believe that in the future there will be a better exchange rate then you have the possibility to open a foreigner currency account. Besides you should get a better exchange rate when you transfer "your" currency to THB bank intern at the time you decide to convert it. In my experiences for the last twelve years the THB 800000.- in a foreigner currency has been accepted by immigration. Good luck, hope that might help.

Before I couldn't imagine not having a healthcare insurance and understand the comments that have been made by TV members about not having one. But now I guess that I'm better of by putting the money in an account. Maybe in the future I can find a better solution.

I'm not sure if your post is related to my post or not. In my post I only used a quote from another TV member (quote).
Instead to judge this TV members post what is right or not right, I wanted to let the readers know to be aware of side effects. Also, I only posted facts that should serve other readers.
In general I think all these posts should serve readers to get some useful information and these should not be expressed with words that come from personal emotions.
