  1. I think that they should ban booze all together over Songkran, no confrontations, less accidents, a much more enjoyable time would be had by all, alcohol is the root of all evil if you ask me

    Victor Meldew

    I agree 100% :)

    I second that 100%

I take it, you all agree that alcohol should be banned at Christmas! I didn't think so!

I totally agree with you about drinking and driving, but banning it altogether at Songkran is totally out of the question. The Thais work all year for Songkran, so who are we to say they can't let their hair down and party.

Proper enforcement of the Law is the only way to combat the issue of drinking and driving. You must be a mad man to drink and drive in the UK at Christmas, because every one knows that the police have pulled out all the stops to try and catch the few idiots that do attempt to drive. If only the same could be said about Songkran and the police here.

  2. Google readon tv player, or go to download.cnet. It is a computer program you download. It is free. Didn't think my english was that bad.

Read it back yourself slowly and out loud, and you might notice the problems.

thanks krung for sharing! Sorry Krung but Thai visa is full of pedantic English Professors.

I hate it, but maybe we should start using txt msg eng jst t wind em up!

  3. Too much money and not enough sense!!!

Followed you for 4 years, as Chiang Mai United and then last year as Chiang Mai F.C. but I can see, that the wrong people have become the know it alls of football.

    Shame, massive shame.

I'll still follow you, but get the shit out of the club!!!

Money is power. But money doesn't give you knowledge!

  4. genuine football shirts

Just a little tip off to the TV police. Replica does not mean counterfeit. Replica is the official term used by all EPL teams when advertising their new kits.

So I would like to know where I can buy an original Liverpool Top. Last time I heard, they only make them for the players.

I did try and get an original top off Joe Cole's back, but he's clued up on Scousers now and had the top bolted to his neck.

You might want to have a look at Slick. It's on every other week on a Friday at the Red Mango. They have only had 2 nights so far, but both were well done nights. There were Thais and Farangs at both, but I would say the percentage was 70-30 to Farangs. It gets going around 9pm and winds down after 12. It is short, but the music is good and so are the prices for drinks. It's a great place to get warmed up for a night on the town.

Check out their FB page. Slick Atredmango.

  6. Sure you can't tell us? whistling.gif

Even if he could, I'd still like to know !

Heard that there was something going on tonight at the old tuskers, but that was in passing last week, so I'd like to know more.

There needs to be something better to do on a Friday night around town than the normal same same. Any info, suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated by me and any one else who is bored with seeing and hearing the same faces around town. Obviously they wont be appreciated by the two Thai Visa warriors that commented on the OP, but hey, their highlight of the week is probably the pub quiz. So please can we keep this thread open for people that are serious about finding something new out about night life in town. (Not the Reggae bars please)

Yes, at the old Tuskers, which is now named Red Mango. Details are here:

  8. Nikkotin

People who abide by the law and are outraged when others create situations that will make it harder for other foreigners here are the reason you left your country?

I just don't understand why you or anyone would condone illegal workers. In my time in Thailand, Immigration and the labor department have made much tougher regulations and have had an increase of investigations on many businesses because they want to stop these low life touts poaching lower income bracket jobs from the Locals.

What is wrong with wanting middle class economic members contributing to society?

If a foreigner is breaking the law in Thailand while trying to support a family, he is an idiot and deserves any bad luck that happens. There are enough legal opportunities for people in this country. I pity any woman that marries such a loser in the first place.

Why would I report to the police? They are not the proper authorities. They would just pull a sting operation and fleece the guy for some pocket money.

Honest businesses that conduct themselves accordingly are a wonderful asset to any community, but some touts who barely speak the language guiding others around is pretty lame.

Anyone who thinks that 500 a day is a lot of money for someone giving a private tour are the one's that don't know this country. That is still less than 15,000 baht a month unless they worked every day which they probably don't.

FYI, the average income in Thailand is 15K baht a month. More than 30% of the local residents in CM province make more than 30K a month as of last years tax records reported.

Anything under 15K is still considered poor in this country. You don't pay taxes on salary under 13K a month.

Sorry if I have no pity for expats who live on a poor wage when there are opportunities for them in their country. This country will only prosper when it increases its middle class and bridges the gap.

Touts stealing these jobs is not helping.

I'm a keen fisherman myself, and like you i love to cast the rod out in the TV pond from time to time. If you have the right topic on the end of the hook, then there is always loads of fry with their little opinions to be caught. Sad really isn't it. People will believe anything that they read. Always fun to read how so many people get worked up about it. I loved the reply ' my husband told a young person in Pai that you need a work permit for for giving out leaflets'. I mean come on! If you saw a farang giving out leaflets in Pai, and you felt the need to approach them and tell them of their rights and wrongs of working, you must either be sad, boring or a massive pretentious <deleted>.

    Glad you joined the club.

  9. Who is your marketing agent Mr. Forbes? The Pillion gang could have done with them for the publicity for the club! What a chance missed!

    Or was it?

I heard you were back in town Mr Pillion. I hope you're not up to your old tricks again. 'Stick and Scatter'

  10. For value, try Marco's

They are not sponsors and don't go in for self-promotion

So promoting your own business is a character flaw these days. Good luck with that approach. Maybe Gonzo should take down his sign too, way too vain. Does Marcos have a sign? they probably don't, they are much more modest.

BTW most of the things said on TV about Pun Pun are from happy customers giving a positive review. Should Gonzo ask them to stop because it hurts his image?

No of course not. He has his way of promoting his business as do other restauranteurs. But constant opening of advertising threads is not always so positive, attracts the already converted clique anyway. Pedr promoted by commenting on other establishments as well as his own. Much more sophisticted

Thanks for the post caf. I am not saying that I agree with what you are saying, but I get sick to death of the brown nosers on here. Yes it is self promoting. Whether it is directly from the owner or some one that loves to tell you " I told you the food was good down there, listen to me I know everything about Chiang Mai". It's boring to read. Every person has there own opinion about different places and different foods, but due to TV rules only the positive ones can be openly expressed.

Sorry Gonzo, I am not targeting you at all and in no way your business, but I want to make a point.

Everywhere in the world, restaurants face good and bad Reviews.

Would any one like to share any bad reviews or experiences at the PunPun.

  11. Well it's nice to know that the smoky season has finally started, thanks to the yearly moans from TV posters. I can finally start saving money on L&M's. I can't say that I'll be saving that much money just yet, because I can still see my hand in front of my face. When do the TV posters think it will peak, because I know it gets really bad here, but I also know that there are a lot of premature moans and grunts about how bad the smoke is. Yes it does get bad, very bad, but at the moment I can't seem to put my finger on what everyone is moaning about. When you are driving through the city and your eyes start to sting or when you are looking over the city at a fourth floor window and the smoke is clearly visible like a massive haze, that's when it's time to moan. So when is right time to get some worthy moans in. I want to join in but it's not the right time. Tomorrow, next week, next month. Come on TVers it happens every year, we complain every year, and it never goes away every year. Chiang Mai is like a football team, it's got ups and downs, but don't change your club(city), just because their having a bad patch during the season. If needs must, walk round with an oxygen mask or raid the local fire stations, please don't go south your club needs you. Plus it's full of fairies down south.

  12. Your having a laugh aren't you!

Thailand, not on the list, unbelievable.

A small beer costs 3 dollars, a nice meal will set you back 10 dollars, the people are the most honest (esp the women). There is always a happy smile from the travel agents as they take your money, but forgot to tell you that you might get hassled along the way, which is always nice. The tuk tuks and the taxis never try and rip you off. The logic is far superior in Thailand then any where else. It's clean with great roads and drivers, health and safety standards are high, and the best of all you get to meet the most helpful police in the world when your in need.

Why, Why, why, why, is Thailand not on the list.

Saying that. I love Thailand just the way it is. And that's why I chose to live here.

It's not perfect, but nowhere is.

  13. I will attend if the the recently removed and much appreciated staff make a guest appearance!

    anyone else?

I agree! You just can't get the staff these days.

But if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys. And having monkeys in that place, would be an improvement.

  14. Dear Pillion,

Just a quick question in regards to recent comment made by a passing falang, which hurt my feelings. I have recently lost a good rider, so I had to find an alternative. My new rider is a small 24 year old Thai. He is a great rider with an impressive new Honda Wave. I was pillioning around the moat when a Falang shout queers as he passed. I didn't think that much of it at the time, but then I had think. A westerner riding pillion with a small Thai male always seems to look gay. You know how it is here in Thailand, so what are your thoughts on this. Do you think that a larger western male riding pillion with a smaller young Thai male looks like that they are an item. Because I think that this rider is a good friend, a good rider and he is not gay and I want to save myself and my rider from being ridiculed. So mybe I should ride pillion with a sign on my back stating 'WE'RE NOT GAY'

  15. TV party are always good, but TV Chiang Mai has grown over the past few years, and I am a little concerned about the limitations of the party in reference to numbers. Because lets be honest, the old bell ain't really that big. So how will it work? first come first served?

The ground floor furniture will be re-arranged to suit the event, we also have the 2nd and 3rd floors available giving plenty of room.

Thanks for the Info. With the extra space it's sure go well.

  16. I have a regular problem and I was wondering if anyone has suffered in the same way as me. NOODLES, how do you get into them? I've tried many times to master the art of extracting the elastic band from around the top of a bag. I'm left feeling totally ashamed with myself when I have to open the bag with a knife. Which normally leaves me with third degree burns. Any tips or hints would me so helpful. Oh and don't get me started on the small bags of chillies in fish sauce. Impossible.
