  1. Does anyone know how to pay AIS Fibre bills by Bank Transfer or by Debit/ATM Card online?

I pay all of my bills using Bangkok Banks online banking service. My wife uses SCB for her bills. It's relatively easy to setup a new bill payment on both so long as you have the two reference numbers from the statement you receive in the mail.

Did you try calling the normal AIS 1175 line? I called them a few days ago regarding my mobile bill and out of curiosity asked the CR if he could check if Fibre was available in my area. He was able to... so maybe someone at that line might be able to help you?

  2. Well, this is good news, I guess, in the sense that it means one more international streaming service is available here. But having a bunch of celebrity investors does not impress me, in fact it totally turns me off, they're rich enough already. I'd rather be using Spotify, but geoip blocks prevent me from using the service easily. At this point, I've been downloading or torrenting music (for lack of alternatives) for so long that it's just become a habit now, and a hard habit to break.

If you can't use Spotify, Deezer is a similar app that I use that does here.

  3. I've tried Skype, LINE & LINE Premium calling and find Skype to be better for both calling other uses and phone lines. Out of all the apps/services I've tried, Google's Hangouts has had the most stable connection either user to user or user to mobile. I can call U.S. mobile phones for free as well. I should also note that my connection is capped at 512 kbps through AIS.

FWIW, LINE made a statement regarding the military's ability to screen communication via their app: http://asiancorrespondent.com/129304/line-denies-thai-juntas-claim-it-is-monitoring-popular-chat-app/

  4. I use one with a TOT SIM card and haven't had much of a problem with it. If the connection ever acts up, a quick restart usually solves the problem. I use TOT's, no longer available, Perfect Storm plan for unlimited internet at 2mb up/2mn down. If I had the option though, I would pay to have the line installed to get DSL/cable but my condo won't allow it. :\

  5. I noticed on the Bangkok BTS lots of adverts for CAT's My 3G service offers a cheap tariff plan at 99 baht a month for unlimited data service at a speed of 384 Kbps. That seems the cheapest deal I've seen so far if the speed is acceptable - not to me it isn't.

I think this might be what you're talking about: http://www.mybycat.com/products.php?id=100&sid=132

Looks like 215 baht for unlimited capped at 512 kbps.

Yes, thanks for web page. I was only aware of 99THB deal, but the 215THB deal looks better still. I wonder how is CAT coverage signal strength these days, I haven't used them for about 6 years when they only worked outside central region and Hutch worked Bangkok?

I'm using the 215thb package now and it's decent. At first I thought it was crap, but now I think it's a problem with my aircard. When using the aircard (True Powersurf, I modified the APN settings as well) the connection would work for 1-2 minutes and then stop completely. I've had the SIM in my Asus Fonepad for the last half hour and it's stable. My speedtest at http://www.catspeedtest.net/ is 1.39mbps down and 1.4 up. Not sure why it's that fast but I'll take it.

  7. I use an NA PSN account here and have no problems with game downloads. Online gaming... well I've played Destiny with my Dad who's back in the U.S. Midwest and we seemed to have no problem. If you have a decent connection that is your own, you shouldn't have problems with either console playing online.

  8. My girlfriend and I are getting married soon and for the time being the multiple entry route via Savannakhet seems ideal. Can someone tell me if multiple entry simply means no re-entry permit required? I know I have to leave every 90 days and come back, but I plan on going home a few times this year. Will the visa become invalid if I'm out of the country for a certain period of time?

  9. The junta should consider a program to enable unqualified teachers a path to gaining credentials.... <snip>

Thais teaching native speakers how to teach English. There's no need for this idea since Philippine teachers qualify for teaching credentials in Thailand and there are plenty of them willing to work for less than 20K. That's why my hope for salaries to go back up with this crackdown is just a pipe dream.

With a view to the OP, you'd like the crackdown to result in higher wages, but concede it's probably a pipe dream.

At the beginning of each new school term my local immigration center is full of Philippine teaches all applying for extensions. They are usually cheaper, often cleaner, and definitely more Asian looking than western teachers. They all have degrees as well. Most importantly they love it here.

I agree with you that the crackdown won't lead to higher wages. I see more Philippine teachers in the future. I met one from Cameroon the other day as well.

Are these Filipino teachers willing to work for Thai wages? IIRC, under ASEAN agreements coming next year, wages for Filipinos teachers in Thailand must match those of a Thai teacher. I can't imagine a Filipino wanting to work for such a salary unless there are good benefits that come with it.

  10. Hey Simon,

I'm considering starting this program in August. My situation is quite similar to yours, teaching is secondary at the moment, I plan to stay in SEA indefinitely, and if my current situation goes to shit I will definitely be teaching.

As far as the program goes, I know one person who was currently enrolled but dropped out as although it's online, according to him, it's not as flexible as one might think. IIRC, he said that exam dates and coursework deadlines were strict. He works full-time and requested to have an exam proctored at a different time as it conflicted with work. I guess the institution wouldn't move on it, he failed a class and now has to pay to do the class over again.

  11. I'm not sure where you guys are getting your information about graduate programs being scrapped. As far as I know, it's totally not true. In fact, growth in international undergraduate and graduate programs is growing more than ever before thanks to ASEAN. Check the websites of the universities in Bangkok and you will find a ton of information on the subject.

I'm referring to post-graduate diploma courses, not graduate programs.

  12. They really aren't difficult to get into so long as your GPA is 2.5 or better. A lot of my friends from Ramkhamhaeng went on to do their master degree in Thailand at ABAC and NIDA. Most chose to study in different fields and had no problems getting in. I know Chula has some programs but they are probably the most expensive in Thailand aside from AIT.

    Good luck!

  13. It seems most Thai universities scrapped their international grad diploma programs aside from Asian University which really doesn't do you any good being it's in Chonburi.

I know Assumption University and St. Theresa offer international MEd programs. Take a look at www.studyinthailand.org for more options if you haven't already run across it.

  14. I just started using ToT's post-paid 3G service. "Perfect Storm" is the name of the package. It's 990 baht for unlimited usage capped at 2Mbps. Been using it quite heavily today without any issues. I went into ToT's office at Jamjuree square near MBK with my passport and was out 5 minutes later with my SIM. I'm using a Huawei portable hotspot from AIS. Ironically, my upload speed is faster than download. Also, around Jatujak market my download speed was around 14mbps while everywhere else is a near constant 2mbps.

IMO, if you're looking for a SIM that maintains tolerable DL speeds there is no other choice out there... that is unless you don't mind topping up 150 baht for every 1gb over your DL cap.
