It seems as if the Thai population in Chiang Rai Amphur Mueng is doubling about every 5 years. These are mostly young educated Thais moving here for a better quality of life and economic opportunities. Farang retirement population is about not much change. The new SEZ at Chiang Kong will change this a bit. The approval of the railroad is planned for this year. The new highway from Chiang Kong to Chiang Rai and Bangkok will make a difference. A new highway to Chiang Mai will be built pealing off this road at Amphur Phan. This will be a strait shot with 2 tunnels and does not come near the old road 118.

Hi Donald, in what way do you think it will change?  Where can I find info on this new road please?

  2. My wife is in the same situation...been in UK since last August on a  2.5 yr visa,. I think she'd pass the driving test no problem, but the theory would be an issue with  the language.

As has been mentioned here, a Thai can drive in the UK for 12mths...from date of arrival.  Now it doesn't say from the date the visa starts... But rather ' date of arrival'.....so if my wife goes back to Thailand every year, does that mean that when she arrives in he UK, the 12mths starts again?    I've looked everywhere and cannot get a definitive  answer on this ....

  3. Scientifically proven that 'Tabata' is the way forward in burning fat....Get your self a timer, or get someone to time you...Go 20 seconds flat out, then 10 seconds off...20 seconds flat out, and so on...do it minimum 10 times...I'd do it twice a day- honestly that's all you'll need. Dont know your body size, but try and find an eating programme of about 1,500 cals per day...

  4. Best 15,000 bht i spent in this country includes a bench...ab roller... 2 bars 4 dumbells and around 200lb in plates...my grandpa had a home gym in the basement...fond memories workin out with ole pappy and playing racquet ball at the Y. You and your son can get all cut together...

    Nice handbag ! 555

Edit- sorry slow out of the blocks there- already been noted !

  5. Its a 5KW single phase system

that does not answer my question. i have some figures for Central Europe and would like to compare them with those of Thailand. a pricewise investment comparison is not possible because especially in my home country photovoltaic installations are heavily subsidised.

In my area at 16.533 longitude they say I can expect 4.49 hours productive sunlight per day, check out thus site http://www.ecowho.com/tools/solar_power_calculator.php

That means I would generate about 22.45kWh per day on a 5kW system. Isaan is suppose to get 300 sunny days a year, so figure 22.45 * 300 = 6,735kWh per year or 18.45kWh per day. From what I understand you lose about 20% when it is converted to normal household current, so about 14.76kWh per day or 448.85kWh per month. That's about 40kWh more per month than I average without AC.

If you borrowed ฿257,000 amortized over 25 years at 6%, the lifespan of the system your payment would be ฿1,650 per month, that works out to about ฿3.68 per kWh, just slightly less than I am paying now. And that would be for the next 25 years, no rate increase.

Instead of building dirty coal plants in Laos, I can't understand why the Thai Government doesn't facilitate long term loans for people to build solar systems, they would not have to subsidize them. I am sure there are pension funds and insurance companies that would Love to have a safe 6% return on their money. If I have made a mistake in my calculation, please let me know.

"slightly less than I'm paying now" ? So whats the real financial benefit? ...The UK government have tried this- Green deal-, hasn't taken off, as people are reluctant to sign up for a 20 year loan, for very little gain. It surprises me how little solar panels have come on in 30 years.

  6. Thought Id take advantage of a cheap flight to Thailand via Beijing next month .I understand that a 72 hour visa is available....So looking for some advice on where to stay & what to do. The obvious places would be the forbidden city & the great wall.

Any information of anyone who has been there would be greatly appreciated...thank you

  7. I've flow regularly with both over the last 10 years. If I had to make a choice it would be Eva...Better planes, nicer staff....However I chose Thai over the last few years to get my gold card with them as they were due to have the new 380 airbus, and would have been the only carrier using that plane direct from London to Bkk.....However they decided against it.....So I'll have to put up with the 747s that rattle like mad with the slightest turbulence !

  8. I have searched the forum on this already, and all related topics are years old....

Has anyone done this recently? Is it best to purchase Is updating the vehicle (ready for an inspection in the UK) possible in Thailand before exporting? I see that the average cost for shipping is approx. 100,000 baht...that is for a company to do everything. Is it difficult to get it done yourself?

One thing that struck me is that on the HMO web site, it says that if a vehicle is over 6mths old or has done 6k then its regarded as second hand and no VAT to pay...

Thanks in advance for any replies...

  9. More frighteningly, project Amir's own guess that 0.001 of the 1.7 BILLION Muslims world wide are radicals and your answer arrives at a standing army of...1.7 MILLION potential jihadis.

    Think about it

Most estimates are at least 10% of the 1.7 BILLION Muslims world wide support radical Islam. Thinks about that.

Yes....in Paris it took 3 radicals to take out 17 innocent people....theres approx. 7 billion people in the world...If all the Muslims turned, then it really wouldn't take long ! A very sobering thought...

  10. Agreed, but I still feel badly for the Muslims that just want live their lives peacefully and fit into Western society.

the problem is very few want to fit in to western society. They want us to fit in to sharia, the call to pray while annoying can be argued the same as Christian Church bells but my not being able to eat pork in front of them or buy it in my local Market because it is haram is bs, same with not allowed to buy alchohol, drinking or talking to a pretty woman. Where are the Jewish, Christian, Buddhist, or hindu prayer rooms in airports?

Wow... you don't know shit I presume...

95% of Muslims in France are completely "fitting in" in France, 4.9% don't try but stay in their apartments and are the older people and their kids brought to France in the 20's and 30's to build apartments that were given citizenship and parked in lousy apartments. the other part which represents less than 1% are stupid <deleted> claiming they are fighting in the name of Allah... exactly the same minority as the ones trowing stones and pig heads at Mosques...

Ok but what are the 99.9?(I'd like to know where you got those stats) doing abut the radicals within their own mosques? Because that's where these radicals are coming from...It's seems to me that the muslim community are offloading the responsibility...or maybe quietly agreeing to what is going on ?

....95%+4.9%+1%= ??? it has to add up to 100% ............... I guess you are in the 1% of the stupid ones?

Chuckd- Apologies just read your post ...you got there before me ! haha

  11. I used to pay 5,000 for 50 units...that did the forehead and between the eyes, your wife would have her yeas done too for same amount....The prices have shot up to around 7,500 for 50 units. However walking down by tuck com on the same side walking towards the beach, I found a new shop just opened, 5,000 for 50 units ! She said it's legit Korean stuff- same as I've had in the past. I'm having it done Thursday- PM me if you want to know how it went !
