  1. I've had the Maxnet 10/1 MB for about two months now. On average I must say I am quite satisfied with what I have got.

My only problem is the very slow connection with Sweden. Seldom over 1MB down. Rest of Europe, that I have tested, is better.

Local speed is almost always near 10/1 as advertised.

International speed is a different story, and depends on when and where.

Asia is normally fast, 7-8 down from HK, Singapore etc.

USA normally faster than Europe. I think I have an average of around 4MB down from USA.

Torrents works most of the time. I have had some problems but most of the time it is not for extended periods of time.

So, basically I am rather pleased with what I get for the money.

Am I satisfied? Nah, not really, but Maxnet is giving me faster speeds than True did, so I stick with them for the time beeing.

  2. I am having my 3BB 10M installed this weekend as well, on Sunday.

I hope they show up. They have been calling every day this week and asked if they could come right away, but we declined.

So it wouldn't surprise me if they do a no show when they are supposed to come.

I don't care if I won't come close to 10 Megs, but I do hope it will be faster than my existing True 2Mb which is lousy.

  3. It is estimated that capital is now home to over 823,000 dogs. :o

Daily News have the exact figures. According to a survey conducted by the statistics office (or whatever the official name is) there are 823,504 pet dogs in Bangkok divided on 389,097 owners.

I can add 5 to that, just born on my soi, so the unofficial number of dogs are now 823,509...

  4. This morning, when I was about to read one of my favorite blogs, hosted by wordpress.com, I got the nice TOT message that the site was blocked to protect my soul from all evil.

I have not found anything in the news about this. Anyone knows what is going on?

When will they learn to block only offending sites, not whole domains?

wordpress.com have more than 1.4 million blogs and I assume there is only one with offending info... Nice job TOT.

    I love free speach.

And TOT is a perfect name for a sh1t company... :o

  5. I had the required income, from the internet, and the embassy was more than happy to write a certificate of income that the Immigration accepted without any questions whatsoever.

When you say you had the required income from the internet, did you just show them hard-copies of your on-line statements showing the salary of your previous job?

I showed the embassy copies of the monthly cheques and the receipts from K Bank that the money had been transferred into my account here in Thailand.

Based on that they wrote me a certificate of income from abroad.

Immigration accepted that without any questions. I had all the bank receipts with me too, but they didn't want to look at them at all. They said the only paper they needed was the one from the embassy. (Swedish Embassy btw)

  6. Buy flow control teats & bottles as they help prevent the baby getting colic & also are supposed to be more like feeding from the breast than regualr bottled as they allow the baby to regulate the flow of milk as she does whilst on the breast.

Also don't discount the emotional bond a baby may feel whilst breastfeeding as well as the security aspect, if she is just held then may not feel the same security when someone other than mum is feeding her so try swaddling the baby whilst you feed her restricting her movement & arm control, this is proven to calm babies who are having difficulty feeding or settling for sleep. Babies like feeling wrapped up so swaddling is a good way of making her feel secure.

I also agree with gh suggetsion of your wife expressing milk. This expressed milk can also be frozen so your wife can "stock up" :o and it wont be so differnent for the baby whilst transitioning from breast to bottle.

    Good luck with it.

Can you get the flow control teats and bottles in THailand ?

We had the same problem when we started with the bottle.

But, after changing to Pigeon (the brand) wide neck bottles with some kind of special teat that is supposed to be very similar to the mothers nipple, my daughter doesn't care if she gets the breast or the bottle.

I don't know, maybe we were just lucky, but it really works great for us. They are more expensive than the normal bottles, but at least for us it is totally worth it.

  7. By the way, as you are married, The company only needs one million Baht register capital for your work permit and for the visa, it could be obtained by having a extension of stay based on marriage as long as you have a wp and your wife and you get a salary of 40K per month.

    www.sunbeltasiagroup.com

So it is 1 million for me, what about him, on a Residence Permit? He still needs 2 millions for his WP? (= total 3 millions for both of us)

Today he gave me a lousy offer through one of the other employees. Still does not have the courage to talk directly to me...

What he offered didn't even add up to 50% of what I belive he has to pay me according to the law.

Included in the offer was that if I accepted the small change he offered, he would let me keep my work permit and visa until they expire later this year. If not accepted, he said that he would revoke both visa and wp right away.

I said I don't know what I should do with a work permit if I don't have a work and demanded full payment.

Now waiting for Monday to see what his next step is.

  8. Since the beginning of this year there has been strange things going on at the office.

To cut a long story short, my boss want to get rid of me, but he does not want to pay the severance money I am entitled to after more than 3 years at the company.

I don't want speculate why he wants me out. Suffice to say, I have not done anything that gives him legal rights to kick me out.

For the record. We are both foreigners.

    He's got a RP.

I have a Non-B extended with one year 4 years in o row. I am married to a Thai woman and we have a newborn daughter.

    So far this have happened:

Since January 3, he had not said one word to me.

He does not reply to my mails at all. (work related mails - I don't send any private ones)

To get rid of me, he started by reducing the number of Thai employees to 4 in the hope that I would not be able to get my one year extension next time. (By the way, so far he also refuse to pay severance pay to at least one of them)

When I heard this, I asked him the reason, which he sort of gave me. I then said: Well, lucky us that we don't need 8 employees anymore, as I can extend my stay anyway.

That sort of chocked him. His next step I believe is to reduce the registered capital from 4 to 2 milllion baht. I don't have any proof of that at the moment. But it seams like the next logical step for him to take. I guess that that rules out any WP extension for me next time?

Or is the requirement in this situation different? He with RP and me married?

I will not make it easy for him and resign by myself. If he wants me out, he will have to fire me.

So, I guess what I would like to know is if those changes in the company structure frees him from the obligation to pay me the severance money?

  9. Me and my wife just finished our house a few months ago. She is the owner, I, of course live there with her and our newly born daughter.

As I try to comply with the laws to the best of my knowledge, I went down to Immigration at Suan Phlu to ask for the forms needed for this report a few weeks before we were supposed to move in.

They just waived me away and said that my wife did not have to report me staying in the house as we are married.

I explained our situation once again, but the answer was the same, not necessary.

I am not convinced though. Anyone?

  10. I was reading an article the other day and they interviewed 4 Thai celebreties.

The question was if you were driving home drunk and needed to go to the toilet. Would you stop at a closed petrol station.

Now not one of the people said that they wouldn't drive drunk. They all gave their answer like "I would .......

    Not very good role models.

    C

I showed this question to the thai people at the offcie and asked them if they saw anything strange with the answers. Not one of them reacted...

And it wasn't only drunk, I believe the wording was "pissed drunk"

  11. I agree with a lot of the posts here. You are in their country YOU should abide by their laws.

Of course we shall abide to the Thai laws when in Thailand, but, you can't possibly know each and every one. Using common sense is often a good way, but I don't see how she could know that she was illegally entering a pub if there is no sign outside telling the legal age, and nobody checking ID's, just letting her in.

In my opinion it must be up to the establishment to clearly state what the age limit is, and also to check customers ID's at the entrance.

Well, TiT. Got to remember they run the country and not everything you do in your country means they have to do it in theirs.

I have no problem, what so ever, living by the laws in what ever country I am living in or visiting, but I didn't know that you also have to like and agree with every single law in that country.

I think whinging abt it on TV and in The Bangkok Post only makes farangs look stupid. Well, this person in particular. What if the shoe was on the other foot with a Thai breaking the law in your country would you be so forgiving???

It would probably not have happened in my country, she would have been denied entrance if she was under aged.

  13. The current metre flag-fall is 35 baht for the first two kilometres of a journey. This rate has remained unchanged for a decade and is likely to be increased to between 36 and 40 baht.

I think a better idea would be to lower the flag fall to say 20-25 baht, but also change the distance to the first km instead of the first two. That way more people would use taxis for shorter distances and the drivers would earn more money.

  14. Went to the immigration yesterday to make a re-entry visa, and at the same time I asked for updated info on the documents needed for the one year extension.

Two of the papers they gave me was "re-cycled"

So, in addition of the information I asked for, I also got the balance sheet of Fang Brothers Holding and a Pho Ngo Do 1 for Diethelm Travel.

I guess they have to save money where they can, but this doesn't seem to be the correct way to do it, does it?

    What do you think?

  15. Well maybe it's paranoia but I've heard it said that the labour department here view the work permit application process as work in itself and that by doing it myself I'm depriving Thai people of the work. Hence the reason I'm checking. I think I'm going to go for it and if I get done then at least it will make a good story to tell down the pub.

I had a lawyer applying for my fist WP, but after that I have always done boht WP and one year visa extensions by myself. No problems at all. The people at the labour dept. are very nice and helpful.

    Good luck!

  16. Beers that brings back good memories:

Spendrups Old Gold - last week of school

Red Horse - Crazy Nights in Manila, lazy days in Puerto Galera.

    Singha - Freedom, from everything.

Three Towns - Swedish archipelago, summer.

    XXXX - camping in Oz.

Chang - A, eh, no. No memories at all.

  17. I believe that this is a newer version of the old site!

It is. (I should know, it is mine)

But last update was in 2002 or something.

I started to look at it yesterday to see if I can convert it into a mambo site.

Maybe an updated version with more lyrics will see the light of the day sometimes in the future, if I find a new server to put it on.
