  1. What are the cost of using an Agent in Pattaya to do a 1 year Retirement Visa and which ones especially as I wont have the required funds in the Bank as Divorce in UK has totally drained and thai GF scammed and when I tried suing her through a English speaking friend (Farang) of a Pattaya Lawyer. He did not do the work nor refund me? I would love to mention his name but Thai laws may forbid this even though he is not Thai! Thanks

  2. Hi Sungod,  Thank you for your reply. No I am not in a rush to sell the car as its all paid up but worry about annual depreciation. The condo is let but not sure if tenant will renew in 3 months. Property and rental prices have dropped due to current Covid-19 situation and how long it will take to recover is anyone's guess. But if I had to what would be best option. As I have just got divorced in the UK and the legal bills are eye watering and these outstanding Legal bills are now debts on which I am being charged Interest.  I am looking at opinions and options. Thank you.

  3. Hi

I have a 4 year old Fortuner TRD 4 wheel drive in Pattaya and want to sell it. It is currently being taken care of by a Thai friend and is regularly serviced taxed and Insured. The Finance is all paid up but the book is with Tisco (finance company). Due to travel restrictions I cannot be there in person. I read somewhere that I can only sell it if I have a valid Visa and a residency permit in Thailand and need to be there in person to sell. Someone else suggested giving a power of attorney to someone there who could sell it on my behalf or transfer it to their name (trust issue). Also what happens if a Foreigner dies whilst abroad without a Thai will and with assets in Thailand. (Condo, car etc.) Thank you

  4. In 2017 I started to loan monies to my GF who wanted to do some Finance business to generate Income and as was in the UK fighting a divorce and I trusted her I started to loan the funds. I discovered that she was loaning it to her new friend that would generate between 3 - 5% per month Income. Initially I was getting my Interest monthly and Capital back after a few months. However By April/May 2018 I discovered that the loans were mounting up and I stopped funding this project as I was in the UK and still am in the UK. I found out that my Interest stopped and the Capital was never returned. A Thai Lawyer called them both the GF and her friend to sign a document in Thai to state that they would pay back per month 160,000 otherwise my GF would lose her house. They paid me once and the friend of my GF said to her he can take me court as I cannot pay an the court would / could only make me pay back a small amount. The total sum with Interest was Bhat 10.2 mill and they signed it. I engaged a lawyer but apart from getting my GF to sign her will he has done nothing and I really do not know what to do. I would be happy to get back 50% of it but nothing coming. Any suggestions please? I am still in the UK and feel stupid in letting this get out of control. I am approaching 64 with very few funds to support me. Paul

  5. I was away for 1 year and 3 months and my Electric meter was taken away by the Electricity Board as apparently there is a standard 40 baht charge per month that I was not aware of. So I TT some money to the Building manager to have refitted.and pay monthly until I returned.Other fixed costs are the usual usual suspects like Annual service and Management fees and Company accounts (as Condo in Thai Company name). I leave the Internet on a Direct Debit (even though there is free WiFi available - but poor quality). No Insurance No Cars or Motorbikes.

  6. In my 6 year of coming and going ( 3 years permanently) there has been a change in the Nationalities that now frequent and work in Pattaya. More Eastern European (russians) than before and the Integration of Western Culture with Eastern Europeans has proved some what difficult (especially between Nordic nations & Russians). Perhaps this is due to the language as most of them do not speak English. So from that angle the profile has changed. Also given that more Thais (from bangkok) moving in has also created more Cars and hence traffic jams. But still relatively a great place when compared with BKK even if the stays for me are getting shorter. Not to mention the strength of the Baht !.
