  1. Can anybody help point me in the right direction, advice wise for an upcoming visa tribunal. My stepdaughters visa was refused and the appeal was unsuccessful and now we have a date for the tribunal. I have been quoted 20 hours work by a specialist lawyer needed to prepare the case @£240 per hour and £600-800 for representation on the day. Its a little out of what i thought it would cost so i am going to try and represent her myself. I know there will be loads who think i am stupid but I just don't have the big bucks to spend.  Has anyone attended a tribunal before? what is the set up etc? The visa refusal was for really pissy reasons and in the appeal i countered all his reasons for not issuing a visa with solid evidence. He also made made some errors which i pointed out, but i dont think these appeals ever work, do they?? So tribunal advice please...or a good cheap lawyer, if such a thing exists.

  2. Im married already to a Thai national but we are going through a divorce which my wife is dragging out (4 years to date) she has indefinite leave to remain. Im engaged to another Thai and want to bring her to the UK on a fiance visa! is this possible? would it be a no no. Also if coming here on a fiance visa, would we have to return to thailand to marry or can we marry here if my divorce is final. many thanks.

  3. So sad to see people jumping on the "NEVER MARRY A BAR GIRL BLAH BLAH" bandwagon. These people are so narrow minded and probably missing a large proportion of their brain cells to drinking themselves stupid on their chosen 'plaza'. Would these people be the same in their own countries?? They find a girl working in a bar ( more often out of necessity than choice) spend time (one evening) wooing her (cheap whiskey and food) and then being the ultimate gentleman giving her 1000bht for the privelige of sex. Then heaven forbid, this girl has done this before and all hel_l breaks lose. I had a relationship with an oh so honest girl, not a bar girl, she was a raving lunatic and i couldnt wait to end it. Then i met an amazing woman who happened to work in a bar, fell in love, married and we now live in england with our son. A great book but PRIVATE DANCER has done a lot to harm the reputation of thai women in general. If you are so naive about life and love in thailand, save yourself the bother and go to Ibiza for your next hols, meet a nice spaniard and see if she is as pure as the driven snow. Bar workers are women (mostly) treat em with the respect they deserve and stop gobbing off about thai women until you have had them all!! HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL.

  4. Just got back from The Land of Not So Many Smiles on sunday and my friend and cabbie khun 'steve' was less than appreciative of toxin's attitude that petrol prices Will go up according to world oil prices BUT cabbies CANNOT increase the fares. More costs less wages, how soon before we see NO cab willing to work on the meter and charge a ridiculous fee just to cover costs and eke out an even more meagre existence. There are decent cabbies in LOS and how the ###### can a metered ride of 50KM cost 280bht ish (i think) incuding fuel and wages for driver be fair or is that fare?

  5. Can anybody help please?? Recently married in thailand, went to British embassy and got my freedom to marry certificate, then took it to the MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS. i was issued with the relevant certificate allowing us to marry in the amphur. when we went to amphur to marry we were given marrage certificates but our names were down as HOP not HOPE!! so now my wife is HOP not hope. when we tried to correct the amphur official was great but informed us that as the MFA had me down as HOP it had to stay as it was!! what is the best course of action?? we have interview at embassy for visa in august so it may throw a few problems up if it isnt sorted!! please help.

  6. Forgive my ignorance, but i have been before when water was tight and everything seemed to go on as normal, but this warning seems a little more serious than before. I am planning on getting married in Khon Kaen (nam phong) in the last week in may/ first in june and my 10 yr old son will be coming, is there any hightened risk of disease, should i carry on with the planning as normal? I do appreciate any advice and again forgive the ignorance.

  7. Cant help with where to get waxed in BKK, but i had my chest done before i came to LOS last june. sh*t, bugger and bo****ks. It was the most painful thing ive ever done, not withstanding i have done muay thai in thailand. Also the pleasure it brought to the waxers face was alarmingly disturbing. Go the immac route mate if you want my advice. :o

  8. well i can honestly say, nothing, absolutely nothing surprises me anymore when i read these posts. Thailand, land of smiles? land of the incredible, bizarre, extreme and downright stupid. The italian in question was obviously part of the crack italian special forces on secondment to the thai army and was practising his lalo. (low altitude low opening) bet he shit his self when his cheese and onion sarnies and bag of walkers came out!! :o
