  1. Hi Robblok,

Do pardon me if my guess is far off from what you have had suggested. Are you suggesting the amazon fishingpark in Bangkok (situated in Rachamontree road). If that so, then that is not the one.

Are you refering to name "Amazon Fishing Park" or the selling slogan "catch Amazon fishes" concept as nowadays so many ponds are jumping onto the bandwagon. Anyway the pond which was first to name "Amazon Fishing Park" is in Pattaya. Opened last year paid 1500baht and allowed to use dead bait. Again there could be dual pricing as my friend paid 2000baht last December.

  2. Met my friend Mark and his wife Andrea after their trip to Krabi. They stayed and fished at Gillhams for 10 days. Although it was their first trip to Gillhams they were impressed amd will be going again this October.

Their opinion, which I asked them,of ponds they will visit again are

    1) Gillhams

    2) Bungsamran

    3) Amazon Bkk

    4) IT Lake Monster

    Mine are

    1) Bungsamran

    2) IT Lake Monster

    3) Gillhams

As I live in Bangkok I will visit Amazon Bkk, Shadow Lake, Palm Tree. And 121 Ramindra Fishng pond too.

  3. You guys are always welcome to come over there. I liked the day a lot. I did not like the cold and the wind one bit. There are still things that i want to try Kim really made me think about chumming. I thought i overchummed before but now im sure i never overchummed.

I wil be fishing next week again, because next month is a month i cant fish because of work. So i have to sneak in a few fishing days before that time else i go crazy.

I like fishing with Kim he looks at things differently then me and i like it. This is a water people can still try out new things you still pioneer a bit here. I do like bungsamran too but there its already established what works best. For some reason i like to pioneer. But when i want loads of big cats BSR is the better place.

I wonder if am allowed to use the boat there :D Would be fun to use my sonar there and see how deep it really is.

I am sure there will be no problem using your boat at BSR as it's clean energy. Also curious of the deepest depth of the pond as they said it's 8 metres which I doubt.

The norm to fish for mekongs at BSR is to use floats I have had set stopper at 4 metres and caught fishes and also caught when on bottom which was casted as far out as possible. It will good to use your boat to reach spots where its impossible to cast to from central pier or from any of the bungalows.

Also I am going to buy one of the boats too.

  4. Yesterday fished with Rob-and another forummer drop in for chit chat-at Shadow Lake. Reached the pond before 9am initially we were the only ones and slowly more Thai anglers came throughout the day peaking in the evening. And observing the photos of fishes caught displayed Rob made an obsevation most large fishes were caught at night. Perhaps as you said Rob make time to fish till later.

The pond is big and long divided into two halves by a wooden pier. As it's my first time fishing at Shadow Lake used one rod with coil feeder with float, one with coil feeder without float and my light tackle for without coil feeder nor float. Used lum with buttermilk throughout the day. Both methods work. And Rob your buttermilk recipe worked as the mekong was caught with it.

It was a cold cold day. There was rain and strong wind throughout the day. We were numbed with cold. Saw a Thai angler with jacket and scarf seeking shelter from the wind behind a tree. At one point there was mist in the afternoon. Wanted a hot coffee the whole day but they didn't have any till mid afternoon.

The bite rate was low as expected due to the cold. We caught a number of 10kg to 15kg sawai and one mekong-Rob was it 20kg? although weighed correct me if I am wrong-on float set at 2 metres. Around 430pm we used 2 rods for caho but was unevenful. We packed up at 6pm. A very enjoyable day. Thanks Rob.

It 's a good pond to fish. Worth a visit as due to being 20 years plus old there should be big fishes. According to the owner there are big mekongs and cahos. Good pond except the lum was expensive as it's 25baht for half a kilo. Yesterday we used 6kg of LUm. Although it's 34km from my place the traffic is terrible. Next time start off earlier and fish till after 8pm. Took 1 hour to reach Shadow Lake and 70 minutes to reach home.

And as I don't have your contact-the forummer who joined us can I name you?-I am meeting my friends at Bungsamran tomorrow. Just had an email he is flying in tonight. You told me to let you know. I will be there in the afternoon. PM me thanks

  5. I probably go there next Thursday ill try to catch it for you guys:P

ITs just great knowing you hooked a big one and you cant do much about it when they are real big.

Hello Robblok, are you confirm fishing tomorrow-thursday-at Shadow Lake?

Yes Kim its confirmed I will be there. Ill probably be there around 9am and i will fish on the left side just past the big tree (if its avaiable there)

Ok first have to find the pond then the big tree. See you tomorrow have to go off earlier to avoid traffic.

Have you seen anyone caught Chao Phraya Catfish at Shadow Lake? Thanks

  6. Bungsamran now offer accomdation next to fishing pond just step out of house and you are at the pond.

  7. http://www.palmtreel...hing_rates.html

This is the link to rates for Palm Tree Lagoon. Yes Robblok I was quoted price of 3500baht for 2 rods. Didn't ask for discount. The only 3 fishing resorts that charged 5000baht or more are Teak Tree,Greenfield,Palm Tree and Gillhams. Same concept 2 rods with reasonable amount of bait included in price. All are owned by expats except Greenfield co-owned with Thai and perhaps also Palm Tree Lagoon. So the costliest ponds to fish to fish in Thailand are managed/owned by expats going for farang dollars. To be fair all don't practise dual pricing-one standard price for all- but not sure of Palm Tree Lagoon.

The most expensive is IT Lake Monster-Thai owned- it's 7000baht per rod for whole day dead/live bait or 3500baht for half day lure and half day dead/live bait.

  8. Good for you emloy lots of guides spend a fortune on bait and catch that huge fish which really is not yours thats what fishing is all about. NOT!!!!!!!!

As for animosity there is no need for anyone to come on these forums and dispute anything, if you do not belive the poster then do not post simple!!!

Precisely then why do you post as this do not concern you in the first place. Second what you catch is your's regardless whether you have guide.Again you have not gone for big game fishing where the captain is paramount to what you catch. You pay money to hedge to your chances. In fact I brought my favourite guide from Bungsamran and I cover his loss of earning for that day. We earn our money and am willing to spend on what we like. I followed your last fiasco when you posted and kept silent.

We post what we catch and not other angler's fishes which you did with a photo of a caho with my face cut off. And the mekong you are carrying is not 50kg plus. I was there it was not weighted and most 28kg.The picture of the mekong I caught in the picture is only 43kg. I will let forummers to read what you posted and they will have their own conclusion whether this is INSINUATION.

This is the link to what you posted in other forum

  9. Also the fact you only get 1 big fish and later i found out that the small fish you get first are not favoured by the big predator fish. Then you are basically waisting your time trying during the day and then in the last 1-2 hours they come with a big fish. Mind you there was only one real big fish and we had to draw straws to get it. I got it and it was the only fish that got taken

I don't know who told you that the big predators only come out on large livebaits but it was obviously someone who has not fished Palm Tree Lagoon very often. By far the majority of large predators in particular the arapaima come out on either pieces of dead fish mackeral/batu or chicken both supplied as part of the ticket. A couple of days ago an 82kg chao phraya was caught by Siam Fishing Tours customer Matt expertly guided by Jules on you guessed it a piece of chicken. As far as the number of fish caught goes, Steve a customer from Fish Siam being ably guided by 'Boy' caught more than 20 fish in a day only two days after you fished Palm Tree Lagoon. This again included a good sized predator namely a redtail catfish which when it was last weighed was 37kg caught on deadbait, and also caught 3 siamese carp between 25-30+kg. I also don't understand this myth that you can only catch big predators in the last 1-2 hours of the day, given both these large predators were caught before lunch. Please click on attached link for catch report and I have attached some photos of fish caught by these two anglers.

The person who told me this was the girl who worked there. So I expect her to know what she is doing. Like i said it pays to speak some Thai. They were also the ones who said the predators were caught around that time. So either they don't know what they are talking about or you are lying.

In both cases its bad for palm tree. If you are the owner then im sure the girl will tell you a lie that i have misunderstood or that this was never said. However this is what i have heard and i stand by my story.

I also stand with my opinion that palm tree is not a good catching lake for its price. Every lake has its monsters that come out once in a while. But if you pay good money you expect good catch rates. Of course it is possible that this was just a bad day.

    t

This is not the first time you have insinuated that someone is lying, whats it all about Robblok??????????? You seem to come on these forums thinking you know about everything and when you read something you don't like you come out with the lying thing mmmm!!!!!

Whether dead or live bait is best to catch arapamai is debatable. Also it's an angler's preference. My personal choice is dead bait-small dead fish-as smell is what attract fishes.

On the day we fished we used dead bait, chicken and fish, provided by Palm Tree Lagoon we caught redtail, pacu etc but no arapamai. Approximately 4pm or so while we were fishing, Benz or Benny-the lady Robblok refer to-came with a bucket with 5 live koi fishes. All average sizes but one was 12inch and Benz or Benny had a 5 sticks and asked us to pick. The shortest one get the big koi and Robblok was the lucky winner. So whether arapamai like dead or live bait is secondary as we were told with the BIGGEST KOI stand the best chance to catch an arapamai. This is from Palm Tree Lagoon. So did the staff gave bad advice? Robblok did not make it up or lie. Secondly to use dead or live bait,in my personal opinion,it's best not to use float but your guide advised them to use float.

Not many ponds allow dead chicken meat. Greenfield and Gillhams allow dead SALTWATER fish as the bacteria will perish in freshwater.

As to whether the Chao Phraya Catfish is 82kg perhaps it is or not as unless it;s weighted then one could say it's 82kg otherwise it's approximately or estimation. The Chao Phraya Catfish world record is 41kg caught at Gillhams. Many caught various species of fishes that are bigger than the official IGFA record had been caught but unless the scale is calibated and witnessed by another 2 person then it's recognised. There is no unofficial world record but only the recognised one.

Robblok did not read and insinuate about this matter he was there as Dave,Adam,Kalle and I were too. This was what happened.

Again this is a fishing forum to exchange ideas for all anglers. Why so much animosity?

Palm Tree Lagoon is an interesting destination and I will fish here again for the Chao Phraya Catfish.

  10. Is the FA Cup match between MU vs Ars on Thai TV channels? Thanks

Channel 3 is showing as having FA Cup from midnight to 4 am. Would imagine the game at midnight will indeed be the MU vs Ars game.

    Thank you v

  11. Last day fishing for Dave,Adam and son Josh before they fly home to Uk. We ran rods for Cahos,Chao Phraya and mekong. Used 90kg of lum no Cahos but caught quite a number of decent size mekongs the 2 largest were 39kg and 82kg. Dave took 25 minutes to bring this fat mekong. The guide Wee delivered again.

And our experimental makeshift to anchor the rod using floats, spikes and bite alarm

Had a good fun day as the norm Dave was clowning about the whole day.

Robblok, Dave and Adam said hope to fish with you again if they can come back this May.

  12. Last day fishing for Adam as they fly back to UK. As he never catch a Chao Phraya Catfish ran a line for him and caught 4 small ones 12kg,15kg, 18kg and 20kg. And as usual Dave was clowning about.

  13. Bungsamran was overcast and very humid today. The field next to the bungalows was on fire again just like last year. At 645pm it rained heavy with very stong wind. A lot of staff were blown away including many lum buckets and even plastic chairs.

We bottomed fish for cahos but caught a few decent size mekongs between 18kg to 42kgs. No photos as no one was keen to pose with the mekongs. In the evening I ran a rod for Chao Phraya catfish and caught a small 18kg.

We fish again tomorrow as my friends fly home to London on saturday

  14. Fundamentally the most important attraction for all anglers is the fish. What species and size. And at present a lot are into luring and fly fishing. So it's a matter of what is your niche market. What method of fishing and for whom you wish to cater for? For Thais, expats, tourist anglers or for all.

For example most fishing for mekongs will make it a point to fish at Bungsamran at leaset once. Like it or hate it !! They have big mekongs and Siamese Carps. The customers are a mix of Thais, expats and tourists.

Ideal location will be Bangkok or as close proximity as possible. But anglers will travel distance if the fishing potential is attractive. Know of many anglers that do this.

The most famous pond in Thailand is Bungsamran. Then it will IT Lake Monster. Every big or small city/town have a well known fishing pond. For example:

Bangkok or close proximity - Bungsamran, IT Lake Monster,Shadow Lake and upcoming Amazon BKK fishing park.

    Krabi - Gillhams

Cha Am - Cha Am fishing Park

Hua Hin - Hua Hin Fishing Lodge & Greenfield Fishing Resort

Koh Samui - Topcats Fishing Resort

Changmai - Dream Lake and Teak Tree

Phuket - Phuket Fishing Pond or Sawai

There are so many fishing ponds/parks/resorts in Thailand. And most pond now are stocking on predator fishes and also ponds exclusively for carps. IT Lake Monster will open the new pond for carp fishing sometime end of this year which I look forward to.

Purchasing of fishes is not an easy task. Arapaimais are being sold by the inch. Mekongs and Carps are sold by the weight and I know a number of ponds have agents scouting for big fishes around Thailand. Gillhams have their own arapaimais breeding facilities. For example a fair size Tambarqui can command a very, very good price. It's rare. There is only one licensed seller of mekongs in Thailand but then this is Thailand where the lines are blurred. The baht can do wonders.

It's a very good idea to have a comprehensive fishing facilities. All discipline of fishing-luring,baiting or flyfishing. The problem in Thailand is there is no standard pricing-bar a few good managed parks-they charge more if they can get away with it. For example I fished at Amazon Bkk fishing last month and I paid 500baht but last week my friends from UK were charged 1500baht a few days ago my Singaporean friends were charged 500baht. Another example my UK friends fished at Hua Hin Fishing Lodge a few days ago were charged 2500baht fishing lower and upper ponds which entitle you all the free food and drinks-bar alcohol-and bait for the day. I fished there a year ago and paid 500baht for lower and upper ponds but no free food, drinks or bait. So which market to cater for?

Know a few ponds/parks are willing sellers if the price is right. Was told Phuket Fishing Park-the only freshwater pond in Phuket-is for sale if price was right. Perhaps you could talk to the French man or his wife but it is very small. To make it attractive much work will be needed and quantity and quality have to improved

I was very keen to have my own pond too but gave up the idea as it's best to buy an existing entity but the owners asked for very high price.

I wish you luck and hope you succed in your plan of owning a fishing park. My advice is to visit as many ponds/parks to do a market research.
