  1. Got give the op some credit for imagination...I mean we've all got this story from bum farengs on the street...but to post the exact same sad-luck story on T-V...that's a new one for me :o

One reason I know it's a lie is that you don't need a passport to receive money from Western Union. Western Union is often used to send money to people in poor Third World countries where the recipient often doesn't have a form of picture ID. Therefore, W-U allows the sender to provide a PIN code to W-U that the recipient must provide to W-U at the receiving end to get the money. The sender provides the PIN to the receiver either by telephone, SMS, or email...and with the PIN, picking up the money without an ID is possible. But nice try buddy!

And of course, anyone without excess funds in a bank to get home in an emergency has no business traveling outside their own hometown city limits.

FarnangBuddha, I quite understand if you do not believe this poster for whatever reason, but don't you think you should give him the benefit of the doubt? He is not asking you or anyone in this forum for a donation, but just asking for some assistance as to how to get about in his situation. As for calling him a lier, you are too quick to shoot from your hip. I have checked with WU and they need to see some form of indentification, not just the pin number.

It is not for you to be sarcastic regarding people traveling without excess fund in one's bank. There are many budget travellers and you don't need to be rich or need a healthy bank account to travel???

Alll this person need is some quick advice and he would be better off without people like you to pour cold water. Don't you feel shameful of your attitude?

oh hel_l its easier or more interesting to just call him a liar isn't it! Compassion does not hurt, and to help him does not hurt either.

  2. It's hilariously funny that so many people don't think he should get involved in the politics of another country. But hang on a minute. The USA, UK and many other countries are only too happy to stick their nose into the affairs of almost any country they disagree with. Not only that but they are happy to allow hundreds of thousands of civilians to be killed. But that's ok, it's only colleateral damage. There seem to be plenty of double standards here. I don't hear you all saying how wrong it is to be involved in Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.

Not same thing! Country trying to protect ourselves from tyrants who are hel_l bent on mass destruction. Same thing? No...

  3. considering true repeats everything ad nauseum, why would you need to record?,

because people do not want to be tied down to the set. with this they can get what they want. Then watch it when  they want. Now why is this concept so hard to understand?

  4. You should try MR MOO next to AAA INS in South Pattaya across street from BIG C , Bacon, sausage, pies, cornishes , scot egg, the best.

Dry cure bacon, holiday sausage ( apple pork) and more.......look them up ... :)

their website does not even show pies, and looks like to make your own sausages?

  5. Hi, All,and thanks for your comments,

As for the individual representing Bumrungrad- thanks, but I prefer to remain anonymous in terms of staff at Bumrungrad knowing who complained about them online. I may need to use Bumrungrad from time to time but I will do so only in a pinch. As a foreigner, Bumrungrad is easy, one-stop-shopping. If you want a good price for good care it can be done in Thailand but you can't just breeze into town anymore and count on Bumrungrad to fill that role for you. It's a shame.

    Sheryl,

Thanks for your input. Why must we always learn things the heard way? You are right- we must carefuly choose our doctors, compare prices and manage our medical care every step of the way.

Yes; I did ask for an itemized bill. No mistake. I just didn't realize I had to ask every single time EXACTLY what it was going to cost. I was only "spot checking". They caught me unawares. I never thought to ask in advance how much the mammogram was going to be; they'd usually been just over a hundred bucks.... in the US. $400+ at Bumrungrad! There were some ridiculous charges for vitamins they said I needed. If I'd only known I would have just gotten them elsewhere.

Recently I was quoted $750 at Bumrungrad for a routine type procedure and then $1500 for the exact same procedure three weeks later at Bumrungrad. I don't want to give too many more details because, like I said, I'm still somewhat entangled there and it will take me some time to get completely away from there. (I "talked big" about just picking up my records, but it hasn't been that easy. It's hard to replace all your doctors at once. And it's too bad because I really like a few of my Bumrungrad doctors.)

No, I had not gone for a "package" when I got the mammogram; I was just getting what I thought should be done taken care of like I always had in the past when I had visited Bumrungrad.

Bumrungrad is just swamped. They have so much business, they no longer care about being reasonably-priced and are out to make as much money as possible. I sincerely hope another hospital will pick up their former business model and become "the go-to place where you know you can count on good prices, conveneince and good care".

I was completely appalled at the state of my medical records from Bumrungrad. Forms filled out so incompletely with nothing but quick, illegible scribbles on them. And here I thought I would have years of medical history I could turn over to another doctor. Most of the time they don't even write what the main purpose of the visit was *in the space provided*. They don't record what the doctor's specialty is. So now I can't really use their records to go and show another hosptal or doc that I have been seeking medical care from neurologists for years for my migraines, have tried all these different things to manage them and haven't been just asking for opiates.

It's true what you say- they just send you to whatever doctor is available and not who is best for you. They have some great docs and some stinkers- they are just too big and a zoo now. I have been quoted prices there recently- as I struggle to wean myself away from them- that are on par with U.S. prices.

I'm very upset and feel "stuck" and on my own now trying to find medical care from scratch as a tourist in Thailand who doesn't have a lot of time here and doesn't speak the language. I am part of the "captive audience" Bumrungrad has built up over the years by being so trustworthy *in the past*, which included very fair prices. Now they have changed and are grabbing the big bucks when people are vulnerable and turning to them when in need. I know I sound a bit emotional but it is an emotional situation for me. With the Bumrungrad representative here reading the posts I dont feel like I can explain my full situation while I would really like to, in order to help others avoid similar problems at Bumrungrad.

    Bouffant, Bummed

think their many good hospitals in Bangkok, look around.

  6. BIG PIZZA !! who are they?? where are they located?? just a few questions that hopefully someone will be able to answer..

    BIG PIZZA

    P.S - their website is terrible :o

Ya, seems a bit dodgy, no address or nothing, if I were to guess out loud I would say its probably an existing pizza maker / restaurant that is just re-packaging the same old thing.

must have caught them on a bad night. Was the worst I have ever had period. Greasy and terrible sauce.bah.gif

  7. At the Food Court in Central World (7th floor, on the extreme left at the entrance if facing the Food Concourse, with the movie theatre on your right), there is a fantastic deli counter. You can build your own sandwich, or choose from one of the floor models on display. The selection is incredible, maybe six choices of bread, and then dozens of options; basic model is 149 baht. By far the best that I have found.

I have been there several times, the Chef and Manager a fellow by the name of Cedric is Outstanding. The food offered is just unreal. I go as often as I can and afford. Oh prices are ok, I just buy to much.rolleyes.gif

  8. Maybe there is something very strange about your Oriental wee wee (Phimosis perhaps, a common and very ugly penis deformation found among the straight Orientals) and the westerner looking at your genitalia was a medical doctor. Another possibility, the European descent man may have well been a totally heterosexual United States senator with a wide stance and/or head turning disorder. Best solution, visit a gay male sauna at once and display your wares for some experienced diagnosis. If the sight of your precious manly possession provokes violent gags and vomiting that are not of the pleasurable kind, best to then see a doctor for emergency cosmetic surgery. Happily you are in Thailand and the experiened doctors are waiting for cases just such as yours.

    Cheers.

    what are you smoking?

  9. Except for the screen, it has way better specs than the ipad. Why are they so stuck on 1024x600. Same with the frigging netbooks. Give me 1366x768 and I'll buy, but I will not buy anything with 1024x600.

I also expect to see a slew of tablets/slates before the year is out.

decided I am going to order on of those pads from China. Coming in at a price of $210.00 and shipping is free. I like can pay with paypal gives me a sense of protection. I looked at it all afternoon or a few hrs. and it looks good. Has the android 2.1 and lots of features ipad does not. Esp. that high price.

  10. Last week, I portrayed a scientist in a Brand's Chicken Essence TV commercial. Before the filming began, I was told that I would be using an Apple iPad as a prop. I told the production house that they did not have to pay me - just give me the iPad. I was given an unmarked prototype Android tablet with a screen one-half the size of the iPad. It was a real piece of cr@p, and I insisted on the money instead. According to the production house, the tablets were purchased in Shenzhen for less than 3000THB.

There been more than a few people who have scoffed my iPad and told me about how they are going to China to pick up something just as good there, for a fraction of the price. I ask them to please bring it in once they get it, I would love to compare! So far, I'm still waiting! I would almost be curious enough to have them pick me one up, if it was just a couple thousand baht, but I imagine that they are all crap, espeically compared to the iPad.

read a consumer report and said it was not a piece of crap at all and that competition will make it better. So we shall see I am suppose to get one next month.

  11. It's amazing to me that anyone would buy this thing, kinda like make reservations for a bad restaurant.

Really, you folks are telling me that there is stuff on TRUE that is worth recording and is not repeated 100 times over on a regular basis?

    for me there is!

Yes....Just like I have said. There are reasons for some that this is perfect. Mainly for me is 1. not wired to tv

    2. I can not stay up late for the American Football and do not want to hunt down the replayed games that come on later.I want to watch as currently as I can. Plus miss some games all together. Not this season. SO This is for me.

Finally I can watch more of what I want when I want. I can have my tv time, my time for audio books, and my radio time over internet.

Gee can I not do what I want? I am sick and I am retired and despite all the pain medication I try to enjoy what life I have left.

  12. How does that compute, then, as Exporters in Thailand are screaming that the strong baht is hindering their exporting?

Well I believe everyone screams life is unfair. But in June Thai exports I believe were up 47% year on year so it doesnt seem they are suffering unduly.

In reality the baht hasnt been that volatile or appreciated that much. It hasnt moved a lot from its highs 3 or 4 years ago against either the US$ or on a trade weighted basis. The BoT is largely constrained from intervening because of their large short position.

    hahahahaha

Forgive me for straying, but would you be happy if your significant other said " you had a large short position "

well what ever is happening it had better stop it is hurting me alot, will have to really look at what I can do to shore things up. I am a disabled Vet. and have a budget. This hurts me quite a lot.

  13. On the subject of DVD recorders (both with hard drive and without), i too, like the OP, am finding them hard to come by. Seems they have disappeared from the shelves. Anybody know where in Bangkok one can be bought? Powerbuy, HomePro, Tesco and all the other outlets that used to sell them, now don't - at least the ones in my area.

call true visions call center they can tell you all about it. It is available.

  14. I have a philips that I don't use that I'd be willing to part with.  Don't remember all the details but I could fish it out if you want. Think it's 120Gb or so.

will that work with my true sat.?? Their newest is 9,900 bht. plus you have to pay every month?

  15. See this one has surfaced again ,what a waste of money ,buy it and then pay 300 baht a month after 1 year ,are you mad? just tape anything you want to see especially ,you wont miss anything its always being repeated still if you have a pvr you can watch tv 24/7 its what we all came to Thailand for isnt it boys?

I am handicapped and can not stay up all night watching my American football, that I do love. This is for me if you do not like it, then fine do not get it. :jap: Current price is 9,900 bht and 190 bht a month. You buy the unit it is yours, so this is correct just called them.

Oh you have all your time on the Internet it seems! When you are back from Muan Fun or the other whore bars!

  16. True vision repeated it's movies and sports so many time, is it really worth it.

Doesn't matter how many times something is repeated, if you are busy, it can be hard to be in front of the TV at the time something you want to watch is on. Having it recorded means you watch when it suits you, not when it suits True Visions. I guess though if you have a lot of freetime not an issue.

Actually, in the case of Premiership games, last year they only seemed to repeat once or at most twice, and then the repeated version was like an extended highlights version, not the full match.

One feature that i'm disappointed to hear PVR doesn't have, is the ability to extend recording when something like a sports events runs over time.

simply record the next program then you get it all. I did that in the US because that did in fact happen.
