  1. Nok Air has changed its schedule, and now instead of a 6PM CNX to UTH flight there is a 6:50PM flight.
Was used to ride a minivan to the border but I'm not sure if they operate after 8PM (time of arrival).
There is also a question of getting to the border in time. Back in November, it took much longer than an hour because of the massive construction on both sides of the highway. And finally, how easy would it be to get to Vientiane after 9PM (time of crossing the border)? Never traveled so late.

There is a daytime flight as well but the idea of crossing the bridge in daylite heat is unappealing.
    What would be the suggestions?
    Thanks!

  2. Planning my trip to Vientian for a new visa.

Was shocked to know that Nok Air stopped their direct flights to Udon.
What would be another best option to get to Nong Khai/Udon in a short and most comfortable way?
See there quite a few offers from bus companies/travel agencies but you never know the real value of it.
    Any suggestions (and experience) ?

    Thanks!

  3. Hi, everybody!

I have a Playstation 2 console with a bunch of games which I would be happy to donate to some orphanage or boarding school or whatever.

Any suggestions how to do it?

    Thanks !

  4. We're coming by air to Phuket and planning to move further to Krabi.

I've spent a season on Phuket and remember that buses to Krabi are leaving every hour -- but what about minivans?

Is there a way we can get a shared minivan to Krabi?

    Thanks!

  5. In my opinion, Wat Doi Suthep is the best option for a beginner. Ajahn speaks pretty good English and can answer all your questions in length.

Wat Ram Poeng is somehow overcrowded, too many people, socializing is distracting, though the training is also good.

Wat Chom Phong doesn't offer a lot of instructions.

What is also good about Wat Doi Suthep -- it is not so hot there during the hot season.

  6. Got a bad news yesterday – my former girlfriend who is in the States was diagnosed with tuberculosis. My initial reaction was to rush to the hospital for tests, but then I recalled that in some countries foreigners with infectious diseases such as HIV or TB could face deportation. Anyone knows what is the Thai policy on that ? (I’m on a tourist visa.)

BTW Looks like Tb is popular topic here.

  7. Need a new crown, maybe a bridge. Last time I've got some minor treatment at Ram, but was not impressed. Now looking for a private clinic -- though it doesn't mean that I don't care about the costs. Any recommendations ?

  8. Opinion in general seems to be the standard of Thai hospitals (as long as you are paying ) is fairly good and with my limited exp so far I would agree

    Mike

I would agree too. While in Chiang Mai (stayed there for two winters) I was used to get help from Chiang Mai Ram Hospital and had no complains re quality of their services.

  9. I'm in central Phuket and have ADSL with Maxnet.

    Aussietraveller,

How did you install Maxnet ADSL?

Their broadband offers (from the Web site) sound good and better than anything else I've seen so far.

    THanks!

    (Note: I'm in Phuket Town.)

  10. Just moved to Phuket Town (escaped from hot & hazy Chiang Mai).

Have still to find here :

    (a) a decent gym and (:o Thai language courses or private teacher, though courses are preferable (I'm not enough organized for private lessons).

Anyone can provide me with info on that?

    Thanks!

  11. I'm confused, I've just arived in the country and I missed the beginning of the current political crisis. I’m trying to get from the reports what did PM exactly do to provoke it. Judging by the scale of protests it should be something really serious. There are statements like “Thaksin Shinawatra has lost all legitimacy as Prime minister of Thailand” or “I see the ways of the TRT as a giant gang-rape of Thailand.” So what’s wrong with Thaksin?

  12. Returning to LOS after a 6-month travel found that have forgotten a number of very basic things. One of them is how to send international SMS from 1-2-call phone? And what to answer to a usual Thai greeting "Have you eaten?"

  13. Fine, I'm happy to stand corrected.  Yes, the second floor is the pits, including the stairway carpeting from the first floor.  However, the security guard at night is very good, the front desk staff and restaurant staff are friendly, the bad cook is gone, and my rent's cheap.  I guess I'll stay.

    Are we neighbors? :D  :o

yeah, I'm on the 7th floor

I'm at VianPing since November. Was thinking about moving out too at some point (I'm annoyed by the music downstairs), but then it turned out that I have to go back home for a month or two, so I decided to stay til the end of the contract and will make the final decision then.

let's get together during the weekend (have too much work for tomorrow) for a cup of coffee. How does it sound to you? BTW my name is Victor, phone# (04) 808-1165.

  14. I'm planning to fly to Phuket airport and to go straight from there to Krabi.

What is the most efficient (both time- and moneywise) way to get there?

As I understand, it is easy to get to Krabi from Phang-Nga, but how to get to Phang-Nga from the airport?

Depends where your coming from, why not fly direct into Krabi, if thats not an option, sometimes there are mini buses going Phuket airport to Krabi, else go into Phuket Town and get the regular coach from the bus terminal in town, personally I prefer the air-con regular coach ,(about 150bt, 4 hrs) the mini coach drivers have death wishes. :o

Flights to Phuket are 1300Bt and to Krabi 2600Bt. $33 is not so much of a difference, but if you can get a 50% bargain....

And going to Phuket town adds 40 km in one direction and 40 km back - -does it make sense?
