Yes I could give them a U.S. address but then a check would be sent there that I can't use.

So of course I want to give them a U.S. bank account details. 

Will they do that in my case, or is my only option a change of address to the U.S.?

Also, when I call them what exactly do I need to have ready?

I assume social security number, Thai address on last return, the income line from my last return, U.S. bank info if they will accept.

But anything else?

that's what many people did--u need to file form 3911 or call them--i was in same boat as u--got letter but no check--i filed 3911 and then was allowed to enter bank details--still waiting for cash

I filed my 2019 1040 on/about Feb 22 - the IRS said they would be adding interest on refunds owing to lengthy processing delays - and I took a partial refund ($408). When that was deposited it included extra for interest ($412.33). (Somehow my partial refund made into my dirdep even though I dropped a leading zero on my account number, but my EIP didn't make it. Was thinking whoever processed my return corrected it?)

 

We have to declare the interest on next year's return.

 

I'm still hoping that the IRS allows claiming of a missing EIP, but can see why they may wish to keep those separated.

I haven't been closely following all this drama but I hope I can get some targeted advice.

At first I had a very hard time getting into the My Payment page but found that the check was supposedly mailed in May.

So July 22 I got the letter saying it's coming without check.

Now it's August 17 and still no check so I assume it's fair to assume the check isn't coming by now.

IRS doesn't have my direct deposit info but I did file for 2018 (will file 2019 later) so the direct deposit social security loophole didn't work for me.

 

So anyway, I'm not really surprised that the check didn't arrive and I understand that last resort it can be requested in the 2020 tax filing.

 

But if I want to try to get it earlier, based on people's experiences, what can I do now? I don't want to change my address but I could give them a direct deposit U.S. bank if they will accept that instead of sending another check to be lost.

call them or file the 3911 form--that should trigger the site to request your banking info

By the way, what group in FB are you talking about? Guess it's all those missing checks in Thailand from April 24th to May 1st. That obviously was a bad batch that was sent. I know there were also some from May 8th and 15th as well but not as many.

the system is a mess--the procedures on the website say to call or fax 3911 form even if living overseas.  I had big problems getting into GetPayment site at first till i just entered the second line of my address into the webform --which i heard on some forum to do that.  make sure u follow the instructions on how to file 3911 for tracing stimulus payment-its not a standard refund but they use the same form.

basically i had same as u--may 1 check but then i faxed the form 3911 to them middle of july--  then was allowed to add my bank info into irs website and now waiting payment date.   what does it say when u go to "get my payment"   website?

does the website give u payment date? I assume not--the system is so messed up--some people reporting they got before payment date.  some got payment 3 days after entering bank info etc.... no consistency in how this works

my info was entered july 30---still don't have a payment date...someone else here posted that they got the DD 10 days after successfully entered info.

actually haven't checked my bank account but i think i would have been notified via bank sms

Seems that means I will get via bank deposit but as you say might have to wait the 6 weeks lost check process.  Also wondering what to do if my check arrives tomorrow

I think anyone waiting for over 9 weeks for their check should just go ahead and file the 3911 missing payment form.  and get an account at bangkok bank. BTW I havn't lost any sleep over this.  there's a stimulus group on FB and the problems I faced were nothing compared with what some of those people are going through.

It worked!!!   Used the new AGI with negative sign and it worked--did not give a date but said the money will be sent to my account.  Just in time for stimulus 2 to get through and potentially more after that.  I will check the site everyday to see if they give a payment date.

Thanks everyone for your feedback to this issue.  Really I can blame my tax preparer for not sending me the revised return of 2018--at the time I didn't really pay attention as it didn't change what I owed.  Lets see how long it takes to get the cash--Ill post an update when money received.. Thanks again

no I didn't put any bank info on form 3099.   Since the "refund" was not a direct deposit I left all the banking info fields blank
