    Dear all.

I retired a year ago and am using 800k in the bank method.

I have a car owing about 350k and making monthly payments.

Would like to withdraw my 800k retirement  and keep 400k marriage money in bank.

Thus allowing me to pay off the car.

Means changing to marriage visa and extension from current retirement visa on first 12 month extension, which expires in April 2024.

    Can ypu advise please?

I would wait till I've been granted the new marriage visa. Don't be caught without the money in the bank from the regular retirement visa. The process isn't a slam dunk. There were several times during the process when I thought of throwing in the towel with frustration.

I suggest you to avoid a marriage with a thai women, it's only a waste of money. Better to be single in thailand

    Thanks for that brilliant input.

I have just done my first Marriage extension and will be approved in about 3 weeks. The home visit happened yesterday. I put the 400,000 baht in the bank about 4 months ago with the intention of just keeping it there forever so it is ready to go next year, however, I have just realised that, unlike the retirement extension, I can actually spend all or part of the money. Is this true? It doesn't have to stay in the account for a certain amount of time after the extension is granted? I know it has to be seasoned for at least 3 months before applying which would mean finding that money again and topping up the account.

We need a new car and I was struggling to find enough for the deposit as most of my money is tied up in shares and selling a portion now would be foolish as they are below value at the moment. I could use part of the Visa money to pay the deosit then sell the required amount of hares later when they are worth more.

Please, no lectures about about being foolish and the share price may not got up.

It's only for a few months, mate.

My friend (81) has always had a retirement visa, think the last 20 years, but he recently had a fall, couple of ops, hospital stays, think it cost them about 400k, well at his age insurance is impossible with his other ailments.

So, I am going to try and do the marriage extension for him/them, so they can recoup some cash for their bank account and any other problem until he recovers, which at the mo looks a bit shaky.

This is just a point for some, none of us know what's around the corner, so we must do anything thing we can to keep the permission to stay valid, as in this case, and back off daft comments of folks financial situation comments.... 😊

The interview process is intense. The wife should be able to do all the talking. Have everything ready down to the last detail.

Nope. It's exactly the same every year.

Thank you. That was what I asked. (sighs)

seems a lot to me, less than half of that for me at Rayong - kor ror 2, & marriage cert, copy of Wife's i.d and house book, bank letter, bank id page and last 2 months of bank book, photo's, my passport id page, latest visa and extension stamp

i don't see the problem one time one year, office is 10-15 minutes drive from the house, always quiet, less than a hour out of my 365 days retirement .

This was Phuket which is always harder and more complicated. At the same time I was doing the marriage visa thing, I also had a new passport I had to get the stamps switched to and a 90 day report was due. This was a three day highly frustrating process. Partially my fault because the requirement checklist was from the previous year and it had gotten increasingly onerous.

My wife did 95% of the talking. I would have thrown in the towel early if it hadn't been for her. We did it. Or at least we think we did. We pick up the approval tomorrow or whatever it is.

  4. We're spending September in Samui with the better weather here in the Gulf than Phuket. We took a week to get here through Koh Lanta, Nakon Si Tamarak and Khanom Beach. We were the only ones in two of the hotels. Restaurants are empty. I get it's low season but Ko Samui is less than half full. Last year no one was here but I'm surprised that there are so few tourists around. How they going to reach their 30 million tourists goals?

i am not sure what your situation is but, a couple of years ago I got my one year extension, (based on Marriage), but 8 months into my extension my passport expired, so I am thinking no problem, I will have my passport renew go back to IO and have the visa and extension transferred to the new passport,

NO can do!!  I was told the visa and extension was for the duration of that passport .  so that extension I only got 8 months.

That was my personal experience that one time.  . Your situation and visa might be different.

I was in the same situation. They gave me a 10 month extension instead of a year, to when the passport was to expire. Unless someone advises differently, my plan is to wait on the transfer till when I need to get the Visa renewed in October. In other words, I don't think I have to run down to Immigration and get this transferred over now. I'll bring in both passports and get it all done at the same time.

Last month I went to see a friend who live in a condo here in Phuket and there was this couple with a load of luggage they looked Russian being the gentleman I am I was holding the doors open for them, with the little bit of Russian I can speak they tell me they are Ukrainians, I think they picked the wrong condo project to stay in it's full of Russians, ok no problem for me, so we get to the lift I let them in first then a Russian guy also walks into the lift they must have known he was Russian as they stood with their backs to him and the Russian was glaring at them, Im stood in the middle of them, Im to old for this <deleted> the lift stopped on the second floor I got out better I wait for the next one,

I don't see any hostility between Russians and Ukrainians. They speak the same language and seem to get along. Most of the Russians here don't like Putin.

"Stay Visa Expire", is the field, no red asterisk but best to enter it. I use my current permission to stay date. That works for CW, my office, and has for a few years.

I'd just re-file, adding your current permission to stay date, or the expiry of your current visa.

    tm47ol.jpg

I did, no problem. It's just that line should have a red asterisk like the rest of the required info. It was approved in less than 24 hours.

Thanks for pointing out what I'm talking about here.

Believe most people have found it is best to use the copy magnifier icon to re-enter all information exactly as previous approved submission (updating if required) rather than trying to remember how you did it last time.

I print out a copy of the TM47 application for reference, but again there is no line for Visa Expiry Date on the form. This time I wrote in big letters ENTER VISA EXPIRY DATE on my copy so I won't forget.

  9. For the second time in a row, my 90 Day TM-47 report was rejected yesterday. Now, my previous report had been rejected 90 days before, but for the life of me I couldn't remember why. I had carefully filled out the form online, studied it over and over again, where did I screw up? Could not see an issue and submitted it. Rejected for the same stupid reason as last time, according to the rejection email...Insert Visa Expiry Date.

This is so stupid. The form puts little red stars next to information that is required for approval. It's easy! Here is where the problem is, next to the line where you need to enter that information, there is no red star! It appears that it's not required. Also, on the actual copy of the form that you can print out after submitting it, there is no line for Visa Expiry Date!

Fortunately, all you need to do is reapply. They're doing a good job of responding quickly to applications. Mine is always approved (or rejected, errr) the next day. But, am I the only idiot that gets tripped it by this nonsense?

And how are you going to point out the issue to Immigration?

So here is me whinging about my ongoing stupidity and their incompetence. ????
