  1. For equipment rental, You might want to contact
    Andaman Coral Divers

    Philippe Pouillart
    67/47 Moo4 soi Suksan 1
    T.Rawai A.Muang
    Tel +66 (0)86 272 7011+66 (0)86 272 7011

He has by far the best equipment for rent in Phuket. He used to do delivery but I'm told not anymore (except to the pier)

For tank rental. Go to Chalong circle and take the road that leads to the pier. Around 150 meters down turn right into a small soi. You'll find the tank shop in the thrid building.

    Good luck

  2. Neither Krabi or Koh Lanta has lounges and umbrellas. They both belong to the national parks and hopefully they will stay that way regardless that some people wants it different. Try Phuket, Phi Phi Islands or Racha Yai - They might have some left.

  3. High season starts now, so there will be a lot of people in Patong, Kata and Karon the coming months. Personally I would stay in Nai Harn or Rawai in the sothern part of Phuket. Cape Panwa is another place.

You find a really good beach at Nai Harn and Ao Sen and there are plenty of very good restaurant in the area. Its close to several activities like elephant riding, ATV, snorkeling trips to Coral Islands and Racha Yai and free of the annoying touts you'll find in some other areas. If you need a bit of action, you can always take a taxi. Be aware that prices for taxi's are pretty high in Phuket.

I don't have a specific hotel or guest house I can recommend but go to Trip Advisor and other websites for reviews.

There is a whole range of great activities in Phuket for you and your family, so please let us know, if you just want a beach holiday or like to try out other things as well. A few of them are; Hanuman zip line, snorkeling and sightseeing around Phi Phi Islands, ATV and elephant riding, island tour to see the big Buddha, wat Chalong and other attractions (no gems or latex shops), Splash Jungle water park, scuba diving, cable water park and much, much more.

    Have a great holiday

What's the interest rate, the standard 3%/mo or is it higher?

The standard in Phuket is 20% a month and you normally pay every single day. Collateral can be anything of value from moter bikes to land and yes, you secure ownership can be transferred before you get the money. Many loan sharks working closely together with the BiB who often have money invested. It is also the norm, that you agree about a time frame and if you haven't paid back within this, you lose your collateral or you agree to a new contract - nothing strange there.

If your friend can't pay the interest and/or the loan, she will lose the land but I doubt something bad will happen. However! There are groups who can be very tough to deal with and then she has a problem. If you believe her, which it seems you do, and you are in the position to pay the loan, then do it. Just remember that you might never see the money again (even if she says she will pay you back) and it might happen again.

Another good advice given on the board, is to be here to make sure, somehow, that the money are really paid and not used for something else. To stand up against these people can end very badly and I would not advise this, even if you think, with our western glasses on, that it is the right thing to do.

Loan sharks are very common in Thailand, as it is very difficult and takes time, to get a normal loan from a bank, even if you have collateral. By law, the interest rate can't be more than 15% per month, but I guess they are just a bit more greedy in Phuket.

  5. I will stay around Kata beach. You have a great beach, plenty of action, good restaurants and a more relaxed atmosphere than Patong. For some day-time/evening action you can try:

    1. Hanuman zip-line. Up to 3,6 km from tree to tree. You can do shorter trips.

    2. Siam Safari. Elephant camp include trekking. I have had only good reviews on this 1/2 day experience.

    3. Go snorkeling or diving at Phi PHi islands or Racha Yai/Racha Noi. Some companies to avoid, but I can give you some advises of who to join. Send me a PM.

    4. Wat Chalong temple and the Big Buddha. You need to rent motorbikes/car to get around to these places or hire a taxi. If you haven't been driving in Thailand before I will NOT recommed you to drive a motorbike or car. If you hire a taxi then ask in the reception and get a price up-front. DON"T get one from the streets around you.

    5. Phuket FantaSea show. An evening show telling the story of Phuket. One of my favorites.

    6. Go and see some Thai boxing. The biggest show is in Patong. Evening activity which could be combined with a visit to Bang La road.

If you need more details please send me a PM.

    Enjoy your trip

  6. He's good for a laugh at times..you really can only laugh

Today in defense of ex mayor ''He's not a ''kingpin'' [of taxi mafia] he's a local businessman...rolleyes.gif

Well at least he is innocent until proven guilty or maybe you are the judge or knows better than the rest of us.

So many of you think you know better, when in fact you know jack s#^$. I really can't see the big fuzz about PW and AM - Don't read the comments if you don't like them. C'mon - sitting at the computer and gossip like a bunch of chicken. Buhuuu!!

HI Alan how are you - finally you got on here to defend your arrogant self. Well done - now try and behave

Sorry to dissapoint you but I'm neither AM, any other staff or have anything to do with PW or any other news outlet. I agree that he can be harsh and some of his comments is out of line, but seriously - starting a topic on TV about a person you disagrees with is simply to low. You also insinuating, that he is in the "pocket" of your so-called "mafia king-pin". Not only are these comments both laughable stupid and narrow minded, but they clearly shows that you might "think to much".

I will put your intelligence and sound judgement into question as it clearly shows you have none of them.

    Over and out!
