  1. KhunWill. A suggestion here that West Coast players were using steroids or something back in 1992-1994? Video should start at the 20 minute mark.

    http://youtu.be/3X9Afij-vJM?t=20m

There was a bit of talk/innuendo around, but personally I don't think so.

When WC first started, apart from the ones that didn't come back home from Vic,

most were young skinny surfy types.

They kept on getting beat up. It was one of the reasons Woosha built himself up.

Came home from a game and said to his old man,"I've got to get bigger to protect

the guys". Before that he was another lightly built midfielder.

The early WC squad was talent laden but inexperienced in AFL footy and in the early

days had no decent training grounds, experienced coaches etc. It was basically WAFL

guys with a few AFL ones playing.

It was only when Malthouse arrived that the club really hardened up and became professional

with proper gym and training I reckon.

Couch mentions Jackovich. Jacko was playing league footy at 16 and was always big.

I remember Blight saying after a GL loss to WC "it's hard playing against 18 ruck-rovers".

Dermie said they played the best football he had ever seen in 1991 when they won their first 13.

So do I think they were on steroids, no.

But don't talk to me about recreation drugs in the Cousins, Fletcher and Chicks daysbiggrin.png

I remember the day he knocked out Tony Modra at Subiaco, the Crows players all remembered important business up the other end of the ground.

    Mob of girls...lol

  2. You get the Udon Thani bus from Chiang Rai, it leaves about 5pm, that goes through Phitsanulok (don't change) it gets into Udon about 6am and then you get the bus to the border.

Get the bus from the bustation you arrive in, don't let any tuk tuk drivers talk you into going to the other Udon Thani bus station, that bus is only for people with Lao visas already.

    It's about 13 hours.

  3. Maybe this Christmas they will have it again. So far the only place reported to allegedly have dark Lao Beer is the small deli behind Da Vinci in Chiang Rai. As the government has decided to wait until the rainy season to tear up the street there that was in perfectly good condition I shall wait for awhile. Maybe this is what your business gets when you don't pay the monthly dues.

Didn't I just read this from you? 'The only time I complain is to the cook for putting too much wonderful food on my plate.'

I've been told by a business owner on that road that every year it suffers from flooding during the rainy season and that the roadworks will alleviate this.

I've seen at least half a meter of water on that street and the former Old Dutch flooded nearly to the mezzanine floor.

  4. My George Foreman grill is finally approaching the end of it's overused days.

It came into the country with me years ago and I haven't seen a replacement in Thailand.

I need something to crank the fat out of belly pork strips, grill cheese sandwiches and load the bacon onto while I fry eggs for guests.

Anyone have any suggestions for a replacement?

I live in the north so Bangkok speciality shops aren't really the go.

  5. It'll be fine, the Farang pundits will go on about how stupid the Thais are and what a wonderful government has been voted out of power but it won't make much difference to us.

I survived the dreadful Thaksin reign of terror and I dare say I'll survive the next one.

The real simpletons in this case are the foreigners who suddenly became experts in Thai politics.

  6. The question is whether it is confidential or not here in Thailand, i have my doubts.

In the "red villages" they will found out is someone voted not red.

Must have been the falang wife or the doctor or the rich guy.

We live in ''rëd" village and my Mrs always votes Democrat.

Last election I went down the temple to watch the count, most of the village men were there having a drink and waiting for the result, which was about 70% pro Taksin parties, 30% Dems.

Can't remember anyone getting hung from the bell tower and I specifically took my camera just in case.

  7. From the Skype website, here's how to do the fix in Windows, Mac, and Linux systems: (I just did the fix on my Mac, Skype works fine now)

Update: If you're using Skype on Windows or a Mac, these instructions should allow you to sign in again:

    Windows Vista and Windows 7

    1. Close Skype.

    a. Right-click the Skype icon in the system tray (at the bottom right of the screen)

    b. Choose Quit.

    2. Ensure that "Show hidden files and folders" is switched on.

    a. Click Start, type run and press Enter.

Some of you may have problems signing in to Skype and making calls. We're investigating and hope to have more details to share soon.

    Many thanks

  8. Can't help there but I used to enjoy them in Vientiane where they had a huge annual regatta lasting about a week.

A memory includes every Lao male spectator collapsing in hysterical laughter at the sight of the women's event although they seemed to be skimming along the Mekong at a good pace to me.

  9. Massive quake hits Burma near Thailand border

AT least 25 people were killed and dozens of buildings destroyed when a strong earthquake hit Burma near the Thai border, according to information from officials in both countries today. Tremors spread as far away as Bangkok, almost 800km from the epicentre, Hanoi and parts of China during the earthquake yesterday, which the US Geological Survey (USGS) measured at magnitude 6.8

Terrified residents fled their homes, tall buildings swayed and hospitals and schools were evacuated.

The epicentre was close to the borders with Thailand and Laos and was just 10km deep.

A Burma official warned that there could be "many more casualties'' in the town of Tarlay, close to the epicentre, as he confirmed 11 men and 13 women had been killed when the quake struck.

"Five monasteries and 35 buildings collapsed in the town. Those people were killed when the buildings collapsed,'' said the official, who declined to be named, adding some areas were difficult to access because roads were damaged.

  10. I'm looking for a electrolyte replacement drink called Royal-D. It's made in Thailand and comes in sachets.

Gym junkies use it when working out.

    Anyone seen it around?

  11. I was wondering how taking your own wine to local restaurants would go down?

Most of them have a pretty poor selection, some of the Thai places not offering plonk at all.

I was at Don's Cafe the other day and he doesn't have much either.

I suppose taking your own corkscrew would help as well.

    Anyone had any experiences here?

  12. Peter at Orn's is indeed a friendly chap and the service and prices are first rate.

You can go through his stock fairly quickly though if you are selective about who and what you read.
