  1. I have done the searches and haven't come up with a viable company to call regarding a leaking jacuzzi, small pool. Any help would be appreciated for info on someone that does repairs, I am in the Pattaya area.

Now for the question, my jacuzzi is designed the same as "most" swimming pools, that is with a small overflow/holding tank. It appears the jacuzzi is leaking water into the holding tank (slowly) and the excess water is going out the overflow pipe. If anyone has any ideas what may be the cause of this I would appreciate your input. I do not believe it is a structural problem after inspecting as much as I can get access to, but you never know. Coincidentally our water was off for a couple of days and as soon as the main supply came back on I noticed the water level drop but it may have already been leaking, not sure, the jacuzzi fills back up when the pump filter kicks in. I have everything turned off now, (pump and valves) and am waiting for the water level to stabilize.

As stated any help would be appreciated.

    Regards,

    Mike

  2. Note that the advertised interest rate is somewhat misleading at least to westerners. A simple loan calculator on the internet will show that you are actually paying almost double in interest charges. This seems to be the accepted practice in Thailand and that's all good and well as long as you are informed and agree to it. On approximately 600,000 baht loan your interest charges are about 40000 baht more on a 4 year loan at 2.7%.

  3. I looked into this about 6 months ago and the price was astronomical. The wife just checked the internet and called, here is the info for a second box for Platinum.

If you want to have 2 boxes and watch seperate channels at the same time:

    3000 Baht one time purchase/gurantee?

437.63 Baht per month on top of your monthly payment now

If you just want a second box and watch the same channel (convenience only of not moving box to another room):

Go to Truevision on Pattaya Klang and purchase box (they don't know how much), no gurantees, no different channels.

Hope this helps and I am sure there are diferent interpretations especially when it comes time to pay.

  4. We tried red palm last night...and it will be my last visit.

First of all no customers at about 1930, that almost made me leave but I would like to find a decent Mexican place someday.

The flour tortillas were as advertised, homemade and fresh. That's the good news, all the rest was sub-par to say the least.

Two smallish Margaritas were lackluster at best, my wife's Quesadilla was more like deep fried. She can make much better.

My burrito was ok, sauce so so and there were at least .000002 grams of cheese on the top, the beans were cold and the rice was soggy...not mexican rice or even close for that matter.

Chips were homemade and ok but on the thick side...all store bought salsas are better than Red Palm's. (150 Baht)

I was encouraged by a posting that stated the guy had went to chef school, he must of only went for the first day and decided it wasn't for him.

All this for 900 baht...never again.

    Back to Mike's for a 2nd try....and then I give up.

BTW....there's a place in BKK....I think the name is Los Cabos, a little on the high side but the best mexican food I have had in Asia.

  5. I would hit Friendship and Makro first followed by Villa and Foodland. I am a big fan of the first 2 but to each his own. Villa is great but expensive and Foodland has a few items you can't get elsewhere (anti static dryer sheets for one). The Central Market is outrageously expensive in my opinion.

  6. Dont know if anyone can use this, but in most Tops, Gourmet Markets and Central Foodhalls, here in Bangkok, they have 100% yellow dent cornmeal from Australia on the shelves for 80 THB pr. 500g. It is just branded as Polenta, which is Italian cornmeal, but with a bit of research i found out that in Australia they use yellow dent for Polenta. It is not a fine as the Mexican cornmeal, but a grinder or good blender can easily fix that. I use it for tortillas all the time, with great results!

The product is in a clear 500g bag, with a yellow label saying "Polenta".

Just a little extra, the Royal Project have started to grow Jalapeno chilies. So far I have found them in Central Chitlom's Foodhall. They come in bags with mixed red and green, and cost around 130 THB pr. kg.

    Jamora,

Would you mind sharing your recipe?

    Thanks, Mike

  7. I just noticed this thread and for those that want some good info try:

[link removed: posting links to other forums is against forum rules]

I realize that more than likely none of you have a Big Green Egg but there are some good recipes and tips on this forum. I was fortunate enugh to ship a medium size egg in with my household goods. I am not quite the avid "egger" as in the forum since I have a high end gas grill also, but the two of them together compliment each other well.

I did a Boston Butt for some pulled pork...9 hours of slow cooking.

Here are some ribs in progreess that I did recently.

  8. The sales girl was smarter than you think, she got your credit card and you weren't intending to purchase anything. Why would anyone hand over a credit card in this situation? If they have a special promotion for a certain type of credit card ask them which crdit card has the promotion. I have found in Asia most of the time it has to be a loclally issued card to get the promotion. They don' need our credit card to determine anythng, you were held hostage and lost any negotiating opportunity and the ability to just get up and walk out

  9. I tried Mike's a couple of week ago and it was not very good, the best I have had is Tequila Reef and I know some people didn't like that. One thing for ceratin, you can get a jar of salsa at any grocery store better than what they have at Mike's, also the refried beans tasted like cardboard. There were a lot of customers, but none were of Mexican descent that I could tell.

  10. The wife went out to Makro today and came home with some "paper", it's made in Taiwan and I haven't a clue whether it's parchment paper or not. It's shiny and smooth on one side and....well...it's like paper on the other.

If anybody have a brand name so I am not so confused I would appreciate it.

This is what I buy from Makro. It also comes in a much bigger box if you use a lot or need a wider size paper.

    THANKS!!!!!

  12. Thanks for all the replies.....I went out to get a few things today and forgot my list and had forgptten about the parchment paper. I was in Tesco and Makro and didn't even think about it.

I will hit the stores tomorrow....thanks for all the replies.

  13. Maybe this is the kind of steel flex cable you're looking for?

It's used on my hot water heater, so maybe in a plumbing section at HomePro?

Sadly, that's a braided rubber hose and not certified for gas :(

OP needs a solid stainless flexible connection.

Thanks but Crossy is right, the ss hoses for water are in a lot of hardware stores but not for gas, I hit several places today with no luck. The "best" anyone came up with was a copper tubing with a fitting, I take safety seriously so I'll order from the USA, it's for a US made double burner for a BBQ so it's a little different than your normal setups in Thailand although I am a little surpirised not being able to get it here.

Thanks to all for your help.

    Mike
