  3. Ultimately, it was approved by shareholders at AGM...the institutional investors out voted everyone else. I think the union may want to publicise who these institutional invvestors are.

    I don't understand your point. If we look at the key shareholders we see that they are also publicly owned companies that manage large pension and investment funds;

    7.56% -CommonwealthBank Group5.08% -WestpacBanking Corporation

    8.11% -BalancedEquity Management Pty Ltd

    5.05%- NationalAustralia Bank Limited

    6.84% -CapitalGroup Companies Inc

8.94% -FranklinResources, Inc and its affiliates

"This is the coc* ology statements that are now being stated with 4 -8 banks in Aus being downgraded for christ sake guys sell the house and get the <deleted>** out not not next year or you will end up the same as OH SORRY US. No not USA, us here in europe with property now less 60% yes my house was once worth €760000, that was my pension, WAS, get the ffuucckk out now. "

These fund managers are under pressure from the investors to deliver returns on the investments. Who are these investors? Retirees, pension funds from both the private and public sector, and the "middle class" as well as those with means that invest. The reality is that the general public is behiond these funds and it is the general public that whines and moans when their interest payments are not high enough. The investment funds are acting on behalf of the investors. In plain english, it is not the institutional funds that are the bad guys, but the investors that make the demands for high returns that are responsible.

It is ridiculous that the Qantas situation has come to this, but the responsibility lies with everyone involved. Consumers that demand cheap flights also have a hand in this. Far too simple to point a finger at one group and say they are to blame. What's needed is a smack in the head to everyone involved and a reminder that greed hurts.

"Yes Greed hurts it is a creation of the financial system, "BONUSES" greed we need more, more, more, more. someone has to pay for my lavish lifestyle.

    I need a holiday.

  4. I fell compelled to iterate my feelings as a heterosexual.

Contemporary British attitudes towards LGBT rights and homosexuality are regarded as liberal.

The age of consent stands at 16 regardless of sexual orientation. In 2004, the Gender Recognition Act created a process for transsexual and transgender people to change their legal sex. The landmark Civil Partnership Act 2004 created a parallel legal structure to marriage, giving gay couples all the rights and responsibilities of marriage, including the eligibility to apply to adopt children. In addition, discrimination based on both sexual orientation and gender identity is illegal in many fields, including housing, employment, and the provision of goods and services. Likewise, Her Majesty's Armed Forces allows LGBT individuals to serve openly.

In December 2008, the United Kingdom, along with 65 other countries, signed a United Nations declaration calling for the global decriminalization of homosexuality.

A compelling illustration of social attitudes towards homosexuality in the United Kingdom was provided in May 2007 in a survey by You-gov. The poll indicated that the Equality Act (Sexual Orientation) Regulations 2007-outlawing discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation-was supported by 90 per cent of UK citizens. It also showed some very positive public perceptions of gay people in particular. Furthermore, a survey carried out in October 2008 by The Observer affirmed that the majority of Britons (55%) support gay marriage.

Least we forget the world is a small place.

  5. I was last in Koh Chang about 2 months ago and was delighted to see that there are still no MacDonalds, Starbucks, KFC, traffic lights etc. How long will this happy situation continue I wonder?

Maybe that's because of the big pothole on the way to white sands beach the main island resort. I once crashed my bike on that stretch and it was very painful . Last time i crashed a bike was on Santorini, (Greece in 98) the steering went and over 800meters below ooch.

KOHCHANG is OK there as well as most of Thailand are doing there best to make a living, being normal, not flush with cash and feel like i need to postulate my importance.

  6. Was in White Sands a couple of weeks ago, the hotels were certainly not quiet but as I don't speak Russian I could not say what they were talking about. The beer bars were probably the quietest places to hang out, no punters at all. Personal recommendation of mine for somewhere quiet, charming and different is Baan Rim Nam in Khlong Prao, really a relaxing place, but be sure to book ahead.

I second that Ian is a real nice guy or google, iamkohchang. If he has no vacant rooms i am sure listening to your requirements he will point you in the most suitable direction.

  7. Union members can demand all they want, but may soon find themselves looking for work.

The unions demands will be watched closely as a wider clamp down will take effect all over Aus in the next 3 years as demand for commodities from Aus dwindles as China slows down.

  8. so half the nation is under water - over 300 dead - all to protect the sandwitch bars and shoe shops and shopping malls in Bangkok - is she for real or what

After making a statement like that, if it is true of course, then it would appear apart from being her big Brothers voice piece, she is positively deranged if she considers country wide devastaion and deaths is a small price to pay to save food courts in the capital.

explained Yingluck. "Without them, workers might have to walk across the street to eat lunch. We can't put that kind of burden on our Bangkok workforce."

its probably a bad translation but just seems funny with all the other troubles

    BK

I feel saddened for the suffering of Thai people at the moment with nearly 400 dead, 2.5million homeless and things are getting and will get a hell of a lot worse before they get better.

What has to be taken into consideration is YINGLUCK privileged upbringing, She is after all a lady of leisure. butter would not melt in her mouth.

  9. It does not matter what you think makes sense, as you grew up with your European culture and the Thais grew up with their Thai culture. What matters is what each individual feels comfortable with, and that is determined by the upbringing, i.e. the time the mind was programmed.

The above ought to be pinned at the top of every forum, inserted as the second post in every thread and waved vigorously in the face of every poster who expects Thais to be just like him (and it almost always is a him) and to have the same outlook on life as he does.

Many Westerners in Thailand in general should take courses in cross-cultural differences, I sometimes think.

    How so very true

  10. I'V read mabye 75% to get the gist i quess you are working 1 on one off 28 on 28 0ff which in my case at times ment 2 days travel each way.

i have not twiged on your nationality yet ,Thinking mabye Italian.

You seem like a caring father who supports his kids well and that for any man in this age is highly commendable.

With your wife's infidelity have you asked your GF is or have you noticed she may be going through the change Asian woman do so sooner i am told. "don't knock me for this"

In my experience life is so so very short, to find happiness in any form is not to be lauded at it is to be commended if to find this happiness in times of strife and unfaithfulness is in short a miracle for you now live this miracle.

Your GF has i assume by know learned the error of her ways and is willing to move on with your relationship. This is also in your hands.

What life brings life will bring and in that so small time you will see the joy,s of rearing and the satisfaction of seeing your children grow into your dreams.

The best of luck and you seem to have most already.

NI businessman attacked PSNI man in underpants over affair with sister-in-law My link

She is accused of marrying Brian Mulholland while still married to an American called John Wilder and of fraudulently obtaining a marriage certificate and passport. She is believed to be denying the charges.

It is understood that her husband was in Thailand staying with Mena’s parents when the events which led to the assault on Constable Morrow unfolded. In an early morning visit to the house, Brian Mulholland’s mother, Helen, then 79, and sister Marie were shocked to find a half naked Alan Morrow hiding in the couple’s en-suite.

  13. As i am a heterosexual i was still shocked at first reading this. We are all children of this world.

    Abstract

In 1973, the Board of Trustees of the American Psychiatric Association voted to delete homosexuality as a mental disorder from the seventh printing of the second edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, or DSM-II. Twenty-three years later, the inclusion of diagnostic categories for Gender Identity Disorder and Transvestic Fetishism in the fourth edition of the DSM continues to raise questions of consistency. In this paper, issues of gender identity and sexual orientation are compared in light of current definitions of mental disorder.

  14. We may complain the injustice of Crony ism , it is what we live in our own jurisdictions. For me as I'm Irish I can see clearly where this has impacted on our society.

Whereas in our own countries speaking out would get you a news headline. I dread to look at what speaking out here would have.

  15. Boycott the place & when they have a lot less money, they might wake up. LOL

I've never really understood or liked the role Ambassadors play. I believe they should be there to protect their citizens when something out of the ordinary happens, but having a say in how a place is or should change to be, is something I believe they should have no right to meddle in.

I can't see logically why it should be any bodies business but that of the Thai people. It is our choice if we want to travel to Phuket the way it is, and it should be the choice of Thai people if they want it changed.

I agree completely. The ambassador, as government employee of a Euro member state had to tell: "Citizens, remind your own interests, spend your holiday and retirement money in your own economic zone, support the future of your children and grand children. Go to Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal. There you as EU citizen are protected by police and law, and you are very much welcomed. Your house and land stays always yours, is very cheap now, all will ever stay yours same as your business. NO NEED TO DO ALL KINDS OF TRICKY THINGS, as all your property is 100% legal.

Do NOT overcrowd Thai pubs and restaurants, avoid being overasked to pay for taxi and tuk-tuk drivers, you do not need to pay higher prices as locals, do not mess up with Thais to overfill their beached and parking places, do NOT disturb them with your spending and leave them as they are."

I agree when one feels overwhelmed one moves.
