  3. I really want my kids to attend international school however I worry they will not learn Thai proficiently. .

That's what I worry about my kids also if i put them in the International school. They are Thai after all (with European blood).

I think they painting a bit too dark picture. It is a Thai school after all so you can't expect them to speak English all the time, if you want that then there is GIS.

My kids had no problem learning English in REPS. Can't complain when the kids speak/read/write English and Thai when finishing Kindergarten (not perfect though)

Put it like this, If you are from an English speaking country and expect your kid to speak the queen’s English perfectly then forget REPS and go to an International school. If you like your kids to be good (not perfect) in English then REPS is the school for you.

And by the way. TiT, Somebody in uniform (or billionaire, or with a Mercedes) will always be higher ranking in Thai eyes.

  4. I have my kids at REPS and can recommend it.

Believe most written here about REPS is still true.

Don't know the other schools so can't compare.

The same here I can afford to send them to GIS (or other international school) but don't see the point of it as i believe REPS is up to standard and most important the kids are happy there.

  5. Emugirl

Rayong provence is fine if working at Hemaraj Eastern Industrial Estate its about 75km from Ban Chang used to take me 45min to and hour to get home.

Isn't Hemaraj Eastern Industrial Estate located in Mapthaput next to Banchang?

The other one is called Hemaraj Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate.

  6. I am in Bangkok now, leave on the 11th. Should I leave earlier than that?

    You should run.

Cambodian army could enter in Bangkok within a couple of days.

Khmer fighters do not make any prisoner.

They used to rape and behead any girl and handsome man. Are you handsome?

That's how CNN and BBC will report it soon.

Better get out of Thailand fast ;)

  7. I ordered from them several times and never had any problems but you probably need to pay custom fees (not always TIT :) ). The customs fees are funny in Thailand when it comes with the normal mail because they seem to base the fee on the weight of the package. Expect to pay around 500 baht for a box with a few books.

I usually use Amazon UK if they have the same books available because the shipping is cheaper from UK. :D

  8. I'm captain on a chemical tanker and recently called Mapthaput, after Argentina I think Thailand is the 2nd worst country in the world when it comes to customs. The port call cost me 12 bottles of whiskey and 2000 cigaretts just to get the ship cleared, not to mention all the several hundreds of papers needed, In other countries it is usually enough with 10-20 papers to clear the ship.

And if that wasn't enough the customs officer went into the galley to get a few bottles of instant coffee and creamer before he left. :)

What's the bite for a Suez passage these days?

You can go through Suez without giving any "gifts" but it isn't recommended because you are going to have problems the next time. Normally I would say around 2000 cigarettes to make most of them happy.

The big difference is the amount of papers needed for Thailand.

  10. I can recommend World Air. They are not the cheepest but they are doing a good job.

They have a small shop in Sattahip and one in Pattaya but also do a lot of jobs in Banchang and Rayong.

They are doing all from small AC to big industrial installations (Doing a lot of jobs for Eastern Star).

The owner speaks good english and can be reached on mobile 081 9421999 or [email protected] for a quote.

  11. My father who has been in the airport since last night waiting for a flight with Thai Airways have finaly managed to leave the airport for a hotel in Bangkok.

Nothing has been arranged by Thai Airways, not even any information. The transport and hotel was arranged by a representative from Scandinavian Airlines but he have to pay the costs himself. Thai Airways doesn't give a s**t. :o

I don't think I will ever use Thai Airways again.

  12. THAI flights diverted to Don Mueang, U-Tapao airports

Thai Airways International announced that its 16 flights initially scheduled to land at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport Wednesday were diverted to Don Mueang and U-Tapao airports.

It said in a press release that it 16 flights have been diverted to land in Don Mueang International Airport, while another three flights: TG508/Muscat-Karachi-Bangkok, TG520/Kuwait-Dubai-Bangkok and TG941/Milan-Bangkok, have been diverted to land in U-Tapao Airport.

All THAI's inbound and outbound flights from Suvarnabhumi International Airport are temporarily suspended until it resumes normal operations, the press statement said.

THAI's domestic flights, inbound and outbound from Don Mueang International Airport will remain in service.

For further information, passengers may contact THAI's Contact Center at tel. 0-2356-1111.

I live next to U-Tapao and haven't heard any planes. Not even the normal military activity.

  13. Latest information from Thai Airways (on phone) is that none of their flights are cancelled, only delayed until further notice. Call back after 1200.

Thai passengers in the check in hall were told last night that they will get information at 0700. no information given until around 1030 when they said that they will try to arrange busses to hotels.

They were given some water and food around 0300. Nothing since then.

Big rally going on outside the doors.
