  1. This seems to be a very difficult issue. Maybe I'd better consult my nearest village elder to find out the truth. :)

I would have thought "paramilitary" meant an illegally armed group. I for one do not know if all those UDD-guards had licenses for their weapons, or if they had acquired permissions to use RPGs againts any enemy of the movement last year and 2009.

It seems very hard to find an article saying the didnt have permission or licences. So I guess everything must have been in order. :)

  2. I offer as proof that they were not armed every single article on the incident that you can find in any paper. If you can find one that says that they were armed, please do let us know.

Otherwise please stop deluding yourself and others with your misinformation about this incident.

Ok.. I have read a few of these articles. Not one says they were unarmed. If you can find one that says that they were unarmed, please do let us know.

Apparently, there were a couple of dinosaurs there too.

I was going to mention all the other things that were there that haven't been mentioned in any of the news reports, but I don't want to waste screen space.

I heard they were hungry alligators trying to get a nice mouthful of redshirts.

  3. Not armed? I have no doubt they have arms at their disposal within 5 minutes.

    They were not armed.

Do you have proof of this statement, or is it conjecture? Thet were certainly not 'armless.

  4. Just got back from Mukdahan and Savannakhet.

Got the ferry that left Mukdahan 09.00 and arrived at the Thai consulate at 10.30

after having done all the immi forms on the Lao side.

The Thai consulate is located about 5 minutes from where there the ferry lands.

Filled in the Visa application and ticked "Non Immigrant O". I think I recall seeing

a Non Immigrant B option there aswell.

The staff checked the papers and told me to get back at 3 in the afternoon to

collect my visa. And that's apparently standard procedure. Submit application

before noon - get visa at 3.

Got the 4pm ferry back across the river, had a nice dinner on the riverside in

mukdahan and was back home in southern Surin before 10pm.

Total cost for my brand new shiny O-visa? 5500 baht in all. Time spent? 1 day.

Wasted roughly 20K + each when I did Penang and Vientianne. Plus 3 days travelling etc.

    Savannakhet rocks.

  5. Well... they might be wrong.. but they wont admit it. :D

Went back to the department today and told the guy about the information i

recieved here. He called his boss in bangkok and got it verified that the stamp

    prohibits employment.

He also told me that i didn't need to go abroad to get a new visa, i could go

to the immigrations office in BKK and they could have the "Employment Prohibited"

entry revoked. I'm not sure i believe him. :o

Is there anyone that actually knows or has references to regulations or someone

at the ministry or the department in BKK that knows?

I'm looking for a quick fix now. If i can't get it positively confirmed that I can have

this easily resolved immidiately then I'm off abroad tomorrow.

  6. Wow, i'm happy for you guys. :o Wish i was as lucky. Labour department in

Surin gave me a no because of the "Employment Prohibited" in my visa.

    Now what do I do?

Going back and rubbing some info gotten off of a webboard in their faces

doesn't sound like a good course of action.

  7. Hi again.

Staff from the labour department have been visiting the company office and have

given an all clear on the company, salary etc etc. They wanted to give the permit

to me when they did the office checkup last week but couldn't because i was out of

town. They acctually had it with them and presented it to my wife.

So they told me to come and pick it up when i got back.

    That's what i thought i was doing today. :o

Anyway, the big hen at the labourdepartment that gave me the news today said

that "Employment Prohibited" was the only problem, and if I present a visa

without that entry they'll give it to me on the spot.

Good news is that I just called the immigrations office and they told me to

come in tomorrow and they'll remove the enrty from the visa.

So... we'll see what happeneds tomorrow.

Maybe it will all be resolved ok.

  8. Thanx for your answers!

Today however, everything changed, as i was going to get my workpermit.

I didn't get it and the reason was that my original O-visa (that i have extended for 6 months)

has "Employment Prohibited" stamped in it.

Labour department staff told me that I must get a new visa to get the work permit.

Obviously, getting a work permit off of a marriage visa seems to be a bad

option, since it naturally prohibits employment.

So now I have to go and get a B-visa somewhere. :o

Where is the best place to go? And what do I need to show?

I will be self employed in my own company.

    I'm located in Surin.

    Best,

    NoBuzz, extremely disappointed.

  9. Hi,

I am on a 1 year O-visa (marriage and kids) and haven't deposited any money.

Instead i've shown income from abroad. (verified by the embassy)

During this year I've setup business and now have my WP.

Next year I won't have any income overseas because that income

wil be sent to my local business instead, and my salary will be paid

    out of those monies.

In regards to my visa, how will this affect me?

If I extend my 1-year marriage visa, can I show local income as means of support?

Or will I have to deposit the 400k?

  10. Hi everyone.

I'm an IT guy getting a WP for IT services I'll be offering via a company I've

setup with my wife here in Thailand.

When I hand in my application for the WP I have to specify a job title.

My last jobtitle was IT Architect and I thought of taking that since it

gives me some freedom in terms of services I'll be able to provide

under the WP. Now someone at the labour department told me that

farangs can't be Architects :o as thats prohibited work.

I told the lady that I'm an IT Architect and not involed in the property

    market.

The thing got me a bit weary however and I'm wondering if there's a list

somewhere wih job titles that are prohibited?

Or if anyone knows of IT related jobtitles that aren't prohibited and what

the Thai equivalent of those titles are.

  11. Unless someone knows of a change do not believe any visa agreement with Laos until next year. Fly to Vientiane airport where you both can have visa on arrival. Need to fill in form, have photos and passport, plus fee.

I have heard Laos much more stringent on visa issue. Make sure you comply with all the regs.

Ooops.. "stringent", "all the regs" What are they?

Have proof of marriage, birth certificate of our baby and proof of income.

    Is there anything else needed?

We were thinking of going to Udon Thani and go to the border from there.

I assumed we could get visas on arrival there.

Has anybody here done that? How do I get to the border from Udon Thani?

  12. It is an excellent place. I'm pleased to hear that its not closing all together.

Yes a great place to eat at reasonable prices and hot lemon hand towels offered on the way to the wash room..... :o

I eat there almost every day when I am in Pty.

As most of the BGs are from Isaan its always a hit to take them there so they can eat home cookin'.

    Glad its not closing!

I wonder where their prices will go after they relocate to walking street.

  13. Naah.. it's a good place.. ok music.. nice ladies.. AND a nice manager that

    treats his customers free drinks.

And.. I have to ask.. what kind of lamer bitches about music after one (1) hour

of pool , to the extent the manager gets pissed.. and then comes to write about

it on thaivisa.com the day after?

C'mon.. get a life.. how many times haven't we had ourselves to blame for shit

that happeneds. And if it wasn't our blame.. who the f*** cares?

Get on with it. If I want to get involved in meaningless babble i'll move back

to Europe. Here I wanna enjoy life.

  14. I'm using Jinet (tt&t) too and have absolutetly nothing to complain about.

Sure.. they're down once every three days.. but only for a few minutes.

I work using the net and I am probably logged on for atleast 10 hours a day.

( using my wifi to connect my laptop as i sit by the pool :o )

    No problem so far.

512/256 at 2500/mnth is affordable since this actually works.

"2450baht for 512/256 lim to 10 gb traffic after that 50k speed"

Never seen that happen. And I download more than 10gb per month.

    Best regards,
