  1. There has been special requirements for sending packages to Israel for many years. These requirements have been in place long before the recent id proof on all parcels. When i sent an item to Israel years ago, they took a photocopy of my passport - don't know if they attached it to the parcel or not. But, many postal clerks do not know about the requirement or they ignore it, so you may not be ask for anything.

  2. 7 minutes ago, Don Mega said:

ok thanks,  small packet.... is that a small box ? looking at a box size of 12cm x 50cm x 80cm (or what ever that tiny box the post office sells).

i think that will be too big for small packet. You have to send it by e.m.s or international parcel. They recently hiked up the price for e.m.s, so you may be better using a courier like UPS or FEDEX.

  3. Well these guys will not be money laundering for such small amounts and as other posters have pointed out, ebay record everything along with paypal, I also do not think they are sending in bulk and getting the UK etc to distribute as these are sales all over the world, these ebay sellers are not huge powersellers just one man bands selling the odd item per day but from my maths they barely cover postage nevermind a profit which really confuses me still

They could be using a second ebay account to offload old stock they can't shift.

  4. Fox man is correct. Explain that you made honest mistake and very sorry of their trouble. At worst you get negative feedback

In the UK sellers cannot give buyer negative feed back.

It's not just U.K: it's everywhere - feedback system changed about 2 years ago, so i don't know why so many are talking about negative feedback.

  5. Yes, i think OP has been hit by ebay's Global shipping program, where items are sent locally to ebay's fulfillment centre, and ebay handles the overseas delivery - hence the ridiculous charges. U.S and U.K sellers were automatically opted into the program, and many sellers were not aware of the charges. If the OP still wants the item, he should ask the seller if he can send the item direct to him by regular airmail, and ask for a new invoice.

  7. Buyers can no longer receive negative feedback. The worst a seller can do is give you an unpaid item strike, but you are allowed several of these before ebay will do anything against you - so just don't pay for item. If you want to avoid the unpaid item strike, you can contact the seller to cancel item, and he/she may send you a cancellation message.

  8. This is not specific to U.S citizens: Several years ago, you could open a HK bank account with just a passport, and even get a credit card thrown in. But now you usually require a HK id card and/or employment letter. It is easier for overseas people to open accounts in Singapore. With the HSBC, if you can open an account with them in your home country, you can then get a referral to open an account with them in an overseas country.

  9. I have the 800k in SCB for the imm.retirement visa. What worries me is would I be able to make ATM withdrawals if I returned to the UK.Most people say there is no problem because it is a Mastercard but others have had their card rejected. In the UK my "local" SCB bank is 6,000 miles away in Chiang Mai.

Check on the back of your card: if it has a Link Plus or Cirrus logo, you should have no problems.

  10. It use to state on their website that the certificate you receive after registration of birth is not a replacement for the Thai birth certificate, so it is no different to a certified translation - it just looks prettier. Registration is not required at all, including for applying for British passport. In all the decades i lived in the U.K, i was never once asked for my birth certificate: they ask for either your passport or driving licence. If your child does later decide to work in the U.K, he/she just has to show passport to get national insurance number.

  11. As mentioned already, pratunam and bobae markets are best - pratunam for high fashion and bobae for childrens clothes. You can get cheaper in China, but they require you to buy 100s/1000s in one style to get the best price. The advantage of buying in Thailand is that most stores only require you to buy 3 piece to get wholesale price, so you can buy a variety of styles from numerous stores, which is perfect for small retailers.

Once you found the styles that sell well, most stores have their own factories and can make-to-order for you. Minimum pieces for made-to-order is usually between 50 and 100 pieces, which is much better than the Chinese manufacturers. Many stores can send to you abroad - you just have to pay shipping - as there are many freight companies dotted around both markets. In pratunam, there two large freight companies at the back of platinum mall - just follow the car park entrance.

  12. Just saw this website on BBC news:

    https://transferwise.com/en

According to this site, you can send money requests and people can pay by bank transfer in Europe. Unfortunately, Thailand is not supported, but you can withdraw money to UK offshore bank accounts, and bank accounts in Singapore - i think it is relatively easy to open either of these accounts. Also, the fees are low.

  13. Paypal is not big in mainland europe: they still like to do bank transfers, so it is best to have a european bank account. Bank transfers between Euro countries are charged at local rates, which is often free or very low rates. For online payments in Europe, they have the sofort system - here is there website:

    https://www.sofort.com/eng-INT/buyer/sb/overview/

If you can set up an account, you can bill your clients and they can pay directly from their bank accounts online.
