  1. Strange name for an Australian Surely it would have been easier to ask the Australian man for his name and how it was spelt
That wasn't his name, it's his profession, Delburn a Yodeller from Australia.
Thai's often drop the last constant, why not the first too.
He used to do karaoke yodelling which I believe he studied in Isan
Good lad bad gik. I think he still loves her even with the Minor Unfortunate Shop-Lifting Eccentricity. (Musle)
    I could go on ....[emoji42]

  2. I was preparing to get a new tourist visa when I noticed I should have applied for an extension Oct 31. My vision is weak and I originally saw "Exit before Nov. 30" on the visa. Only it actually said "Enter before". The only other date on the visa is the day I got it, Sep. 2. The date on the immigration stamp is somewhat illegible. The visa run agent assured me I had a 90 day visa. Either I didn't hear him right or he may have assumed I understood I needed an extension. Either way I am on a 21 day overstay now. I am also worried that because I previously had a 20000 fine for an overstay (when I thought my work permit was still good when I changed schools because my first job was through an agency and involved 5 schools on one permit) that if I head for Laos I might be refused a double entry tourist visa. My alternative would be to head for Suvarnabhumi, pay the fine there and fly home.

I am a single, 68 year old Canadian. I have 2 pages left in my passport. I don't qualify for a non-O retirement visa. I have many visa run stamps thanks to the slowness of schools. I hope to stay in Thailand until April to avoid the Canadian winter

Your advice would be greatly appreciated

  3. Well, in the P5 book social studies book, they have 3 cartoons of a fat falang approaching a Thai family at a restaurant, no money, smelly and asking for funds. Until they remove that, other changes will not happen.

Yes - i also have seen Xenophobic stuff produced by this system -(prior to Junta )

A daughters friend brought over her school books over whilst we were in Thailand last year.

""Dad look at this "" she asked .

I saw images of western men trying to solve a Car problem.

Both wore Thongs (flip flops) and had singlets on and obese and a beer in their hands -

Looking puzzled , a Thai is then seen fixing the car -

This time the man is neat and looks bright and focused.

The pretty Thai business lady thanks him

Whilst the western men look on with lustful eyes for her and Tongue out.

She tips the Thai man who is seen giving it to the monks at the temple .

    A Thai insert says *(translation)

""Service to others is important even silly Farang can learn from Thai examples"

In another there were more westerners and again portrayed as drinking and smoking and lusting after the woman .

A bar girl is seen being asked by a Monk why she mixes with such people?

""I know such people are sinful but i want to help my family she says""

The western men look again leering and evil as well as stupid and smelly .

This was before the Junta so they can't be blamed

Though i can't imagine whats going to be in future publications

Surely they must realize that the vast majority of the bargirls are supporting children of Thai fathers who abandoned them and whose only other job possibility is harvesting rice. Who is really responsible for the proliferation of this business? May I suggest a poll of the ladies? I think sex business is gigantic here because of the poor choices that many Thai women are facing, especially northern women at the wrong end of the wealth chasm. I am sure most of these women would rather have a regular job. I would like to hear other farang TV readers opinions.

  4. 3 shots fired through his left hand into his face?

Speakee/readee English? It said nothing of the sort.

Nonetheless a reasonable deduction, 3 head shots are enough if you are a shooter in a hurry. If you have ever had a weapon pointed at your face, you know it. My sincere condolences to the parents of the victim. Nothing is worse.

  5. Another sad (moronic) day for Thailand . . . grow up please . . . the truth hurts I know, but suck it up . . . face is not everything . . .

TSK, TSK, TSK!!!! Farang will never understand Thainess.

Face is everything to Thais. To keep it and not to lose it.

Image, not substance is of paramount important to a society ruled by archaic feudal customs.

Just wait until they start floundering when ASEAN is going full blast next year.

They will be crying wolf and demand extra perks and priveliges or else... they will stop breathing and turn blue and, whatever happens to Thailand will be ASEAN fault. There!

They have a long way to go before they grow up.

My Chinese wife responed to my retirement with "How can I love you if you have no money?"

My subsequent Thai wife said "You don't have to be rich, you just must look rich"

No problem for me, just saying;)

  6.

..it would be the best thing to ever happen and be the making of Thailand for the next 200 years. They should go for it.

Agree with you for the first time... This canal should have been built long ago... I thought two major Chinese companies had got together and put a proposal to the Thai government to build and fund it privately. Sure I read that proposal on here.... Singapore has been fighting against this canal for a long time. I have read also that certain Singaporean companies have paid and bribed one or two previous Thai prime ministers to forget this project ..

Pirates are likely to engage in a LITTLE bribery as well. (Or worse!)

  7. You cannot get a medical exemption for elective procedures (procedures that the doctor can plan), only emergencies or immediate issues. I found this out the hard way. I had a document from the surgron at a government hospital and was refused at Chang Wattana. I am now in Malaysia heading home.

It is odd, to say the least. The government wants this country to be the medical hub of ASEAN but they have no process to support patients. What I get is "You must get out of my country" with the offer of a 1900 baht 7 day extension. I respect the doctors here but immigration here lags far behind in both regulations and overall direction. Beaurocratic leadership in the immigration area seems disconnected from political directive. In the long run I believe Thailand will work these issues out but in the meantime, beware.

  8. I have surgery scheduled forsept 19. Got the document from a government hospital and was refused at Chang Wattana because it is elective surgery. It is an incarcerated hernia which requires immediate attention. So now I am on a grueling 15 hour bus trip to get a tourist visa.

I am a science teacher but cannot renew my non-b until my surgery is over and I can start teaching again. I am a qualified and experienced teacher (including 3 years at international and government schools in Thailand). I will be leaving Thailand at my earliest inconvenience.

  9. I am a 67 year old Canadian. I have 3 full pages and a few half pages left in my passport. The passport expires 2017. I have taught science in Thailand so not too many tourist visas. My non-b expires this week. I may return to Canada in the next 3 months. I will not be working. I have a 31,000 baht pension no savings. I am single but have a Thai gf

I will go to Penang for a tourist visa.

Any obvious or potential problems? Any suggested alternstives?

  10. What happens if a digital nomad marries a virtual programmer? Clever code fragments floating in the silicon clouds spewing byte-sized bitcoins into a sea of salivating smart phones. Then one day an accountant will go accounting and when he/she adds it up he/she gets the root of minus one, oh dear! Imaginary that ;>)

Good luck taxman, something evil comes your way. BE PREPARED! (To find a new job). Here's another number for ya - 555

  11. So 8 years ago he was 19 and she was 16, 17 or 18. She left with him willingly and this is kidnapping? Now he is also an accomplice to a murder which means anything from being an unintended witness who was afraid to speak up to an armed getaway driver,

Labelling this potential innocent (possibly only guilty of love and fear) as a kidnapper/accompliss in murder is a melodramatic shame perpetrated for self serving interests of at least 3 other parties.

The word "railroad" comes to mind.

  13. "As of 2011, approximately 89 million barrels of oil and liquid fuels were consumed per day worldwide."

^^ found this on the web, am i miss reading or is this just 3-4 days worth of oil?

Your math is off it is 10 years supply.

    Really? 300mb ÷ 89mb/day = 3.37 days (worldwide)

I'm not saying the numbers are correct, I am just saying the arithmetic is correct.

  14. Both are responsible. But those working are often told they don't need  work permit by a unscrupulous employers.
A employee can be be fined up to 500k baht or spend time in jail and be deported.
The employer up to 100k baht fine per employee.

Right, I had a work permit from my first employer an international school. I left at the end of one year and took a job through an agency with the promise of less onsite hours. My work permit expired after the first semester of the second school. I was told by the agency that my work permit would carry over as long as I was a teacher. Well the hours they told me were class hours not onsite hours and my work permit was not valid. I got the maximum overstay, 20,000 baht plus a young<removed> immigration officer and the agency got off without a problem. New teachers need to be able to depend on agencies especially when there are so many regulations and seemingly ad hoc interpretations. Agencies or direct employ schools must be held responsible for their teachers.

  15. Before 1964 in Canada, most household electrical service was not grounded properly (2 pronged plugs). People (including me) were regularily non-fataly electrocuted. I suspect our better luck was due to 120 volt power whereas here in Thailand service is at 220 volts. Connecting that green line is clearly a matter of life and death here. Very sad for the little girl and her family. An unnecessary tragedy, sames as the young boys at the swimming pool and so many others.
Why is it that electricians are not taken to task over this. A simple examination of the equipment would indicate improper installation. The installer and the installation company need to be held responsible if Thailand wants to fix this. If regulations do not require proper grounding they need to be corrected as soon as possible and installers need to be made aware of their liability. The bank is liable only if they were aware of the problem and were not diligent in taking it offline for repairs.
Good luck little girl, I hope you recover and have a happy life.
  16. They come by my house 1 time a month. Very nice and decent people. Mostly Australians or Canadians.
Doesn't hurt to talk with them for 10 minutes.
They just come for a talk and don't care if you are a christian , Buddhist or Muslim and will not try to convert you to their religion.
Enough misery on the world already , so whats wrong with a friendly talk ?

I must say that it beats the hell out of the ISIS option when they appear at your door "Convert, pay or off with your head"
  17. One minor problem. I have sent several emails to IP lawyers in Hua Hin and Bangkok in an effort to patent my inventions and I have never received a reply.
Although it is true that I am a nut case they can't possibly know that yet. So I am curious that no one even cares to look at what I have. The good thing about that is that no one here wants to steal my ideas. That's actually why I came to Thailand, I find people here tend to be honest. (Except for the tourist zone if they think you are a tourist.555)
Sorry sir I will not be registering my patents because I don't have any.
  18. Not everone overstays on purpose. I started working for an agency as a teacher. When I asked them how come I could teach at so many different schools on the same work permit they told me as long as I was teaching no problem. That was true but what they didn't tell me was the work permit was tied to the agency not the schools. Not blaming them, they were and are an excellent agecncy. However, after that I went to an international school to teach high school physics, chemistry and biology. They got me a new work permit. After one year I left (at 66 I found the workload onerous) and went to a really nice government matayom school to teach high school mathematics. I was going through a new agency that had some ethical issues. My work permit was to expire in October after the first semester. They were aware of that but didn't say anything and I wasn't worried because of my misunderstanding. So I get the maximum overstay fine and a big stamp in my passport and the agency gets nothing. Yes I know its my fault for not familiarizing myself with the everchanging and arbitrary regulations. I know that if a Thai person goes to Canada and rents a car, they won't make it thtough the day without a sizeable penalty. So we all have to be careful. At least in Canada the rental agent will get thr police in their face as well.
  19. Once again we are subjected to unsubstatiated pronouncements with undefined terms typical of medical personnel reacting to their gut feelings. A true study might actually find that young people who satisfy their natural sexual drive online are much less likely to contract std's and females are much less likely to get pregnant than teens who experiment in the backseat of a car after an evening of shisha. Just sayin.......

  21. Having a cat works well. Even if the cat is well fed and does not chase the rats, the rats will leave if they smell cat urine. Better if the cat does not interact with the rats. So do the detol thing mentioned above then get an unneutered male cat. They will stink up your entrance but they are not a health hazard as long as they have a clean litter box and THAT IS ESSENTIAL! Start with a 6 month old male. He will become a close and clean friend. Feed him good quality dry and wet food. Do not discipline a cat. They do bad things to send you a message. Usually the problem is that you haven't cleaned the litter box so they sh.t on any drain they can find. They rip up your toilet paper because it is fun. They like to sleep on paper or cardboard. They are still way better than rats
