  1. I just got a letter from Bangkok Bank saying my account has been inactive for a year. It's my fixed account with funds for my retirement extension. I've had the same account for 8 years and have never received this type of notice previously. I don't touch the money but leave it in that fixed account.

As soon as I got the notice I tried to transfer funds from my other non-fixed account to the fixed account but kept getting this error message "Sorry, the deposit amount entered differs from the amount specified when you opened this account. Please re-enter the deposit amount. (-60)"

Does anyone know what that means? Guess if I can't figure it out, I'll call the bank tomorrow.....

  2. I paid a little over $200 for the tablet--cost of battery and replacement shouldn't cost much. According to online research, procedure isn't complex but needs soldering so would rather have an experienced person do it. I like the tablet, nice sharp screen and otherwise works well. I'll check out suggestions here...thanks

  3. Oscar2, perplexing because when I added an item to my cart, the shipping cost dropped down drastically. Also, reduced shipping above $40 is mentioned near shipping checkout. And the reply to my iHerb email said weight and cost of purchase determine shipping price. Guess I'm facing discrimination because...because....uh, I have no idea. But I'm not concerned - I'll just wait until my reward expires. My purchases are usually over $40 anyway and spaced more than 2 months apart so bonus reward doesn't apply.

  4. connda, the problem was the cost of my order. Anything over $40 is discounted but my order was less with the loyalty reward subtracted. All my previous orders, with discounts, were more than $40 so I always had the reduced shipping price. I did write to iHerb, mentioning that their promotion can be more of a hindrance than reward when discount increases shipping costs and suggested that customers have the option to reject the reward. But for now I'm waiting for my loyalty reward to expire so I can place the order. I assume that everyone who has replied to this topic has had orders over $40.

  5. Went back to the iHerb site and checked shipping weight & cost. My package weight is 1.42 kg and item $38.44 with loyalty reward subtracted. But still the only shipping option available was $14.26, a lot more than the $4 or $5 I usually pay. Bewilderment and paranoia set in.

But then I focused on the extra discount notice for orders over $40. Ah-ha, as soon as I added another item in my cart that pushed cost over $40, the shipping option shrunk to $5.35.

I don't want that extra item so looks as if I'll have to wait until my loyalty reward expires before ordering again. That extra shipping expense far exceeds the reward. In this situation, the promotion is a detriment, not a bonus, and I can't find a way on the site to decline the reward. Maybe, if I can muster enough mental energy, I'll write them a note about this problem. Seems that shipping cost should be based on item before reward is subtracted.

  6. I just went to the iHerb site intending to order but noticed upon checkout that shipping cost has tripled. According to the site, Thai customs is now blocking iHerb orders so former cheap mail carriers can't be used.

Does anyone have any information about this change? I tried searching here but nothing was found (I think the search option isn't working - I've tried several forum searches within the week about different subjects and always zero results)

  7. I recently discovered a good seller of men's cotton t-shirts on

eBay. Price is US $6.99 for XL (approx 244 baht) and free shipping.

Seller is located in China, has been an eBay member since Nov 2001

and has a 99.8% positive feedback score. The shirts are 100%

    cotton, soft and lightweight.

I can't attest for durability because I just recently received my

first order but I was so happy with the shirts that I've ordered

several more. Sizes range from XS to XXL and are available in

several colors besides white and black.

    Seller is oops1

Size chart on site is given in cm

    XL 112 chest 74 length

    XXL 118 chest 76 length

I think the XXL costs more, maybe $7.99

  8. I don't have any experience with Vitacost but I can comment on my recent shipment with DHL. I usually use USPS Priority Mail when sending items to Thailand but this time chose DHL. A costly mistake. Although the initial shipping charge was lower than all the other options I ended up paying about 60% more upon delivery.

My customs declaration was $54 (for sandals, a travel wallet, 2 small metal clips) that was assessed by customs as 1934.52 baht. Upon delivery 1187.89 baht was the additional demand. That's more than $33 for a package valued at $54. Itemized on the invoice was: Customs Duty, Import Goods VAT, Disbursement (whatever that is). Delivery was quick but in this situation definitely not worth the extra cost.

In the four years I've been in Thailand I've never been charged extra for iHerb orders but I always stay under $60.

  9. About five months ago I tripped while exiting a songthaew and partially ripped off my big toenail. Very bloody but washed it with soap & water and then protected with bandaids (one around the nail and one over the top of the toe). I also used transparent tape, Nexcare, bought at 7-11 for more secure protection. Didn't look too good with my sandals and a hassle because I was traveling at the time but nail eventually came off naturally. And now a new nail is slowly growing.

There was some swelling and discharge at first, where the nail was still attached to the toe, but I kept the area clean and changed dressing daily so no problem with healing.

  10. Received an email this morning saying my online 90 day report was approved. What a quick easy way of doing this chore for those of us fortunate to be able to use the system.

And my success disproves the rumor that the first report after re-entry into Thailand has to be done in person since I returned from an out-of-the-country trip in very early December.

  11. I just tried to do my 90 day report online but got this error message. Language is in Thai so I can't read it and wasn't able to copy and paste the characters for translation.

I'm traveling to Vietnam just before the 90 day mark but wanted to do the report in case the flight is cancelled. I've been able to do the last two reports online so am surprised at this problem. Possibly I'm too late to file online but would like to confirm this suspicion. Thanks,post-113125-0-08499300-1456304736_thumb.

  12. I can also recommend the delivery service from Tops & Tesco. I especially like Tesco with their refrigerated trucks so dairy products like cheese and ice cream are available. Also, according to Tesco's policy, tips are refused. I've tried to tempt some of the delivery guys when I've had big orders with lots of juices and other heavy items but they've always refused.

Last week when I returned from a two month travel trip one of my first CM activities was ordering online from Tesco to replenish supplies.
