I have never used the Airport Train and do not contemplate doing so in the future , but I have had two sets of friends who have holidayed recently in Bangkok and both sets complained about struggling up stairs with their luggage - Surely it makes sense to make usage easier if you are trying to extend that usage .

Permanent Residence

If i am resident in Thailand over 5 years on a Retirement Visa , married to a Thai lady (registered marriage both here and UK) , with a permanent address in Thailand , and a wife who owns a business , why can't I

a) Have a Permanent Residents Visa

Retirement extension

or

Have either a 5 year or 10 year visa

90-day notification of staying longer than 90 days

c) Be excused the 90 days report

It could be the result of some conniving between Hun Sen and Thaksin - It would be made difficult for Abhisit so that when Yingluck becomes PM , miraculously all is solved .Now what sort of a mind could think like that ??

Earlier in the thread Neek talked about bribing the British police - in the 1950/60's , in Australia (NSW) , it was common practice to have a £5 note folded in with your Driving Licence - if you were stopped , you handed over your Licence - if it came back minus the money , you were away and clear - on that rare occasion you were stopped by an honest cop , if he asked what that money was doing there , you simply replied it was emegency petrol money ( but it didn't happen very often )

Just look at the Thai Soaps - it is all women-beating , gang violence - guns - drugs etc yet if somebody smokes they blur it out . They are fed this every day - and they think this is normal

I am a farang so have no voice in this debate - the Thais are digging the hole themselves , so let them continue to dig and perhaps cause a fatal collapse , or they can stop digging , which , of course , they will not do because their 'paymaster' won't let them.

I think the name and origins of the Ambassador is unimportant as long as he is competent , but even then he is restricted by what the Foreign & Commonwealth Office will allow him to do . It was not the Ambassador that gave the original instruction that services such as Visas , Passports etc should be outsourced , it was the FCO . They are more concerned with commerce and money than providing service to British citizens . The recent example of the 'feckless Briton' is a good one to show their lack of concern except for their own image , after all , they did nothing then told the man to say nothing . I only hope , living in Thailand , I do not need assistance from them . A swim with concrete boots might be preferable.

I don't think anybody would deny that Thaksin is a very intelligent man with a keen brain - but he has been convicted of misusing his powers when in government , he is a fugitive abroad , and if neither of those facts were true and he was in residence in LOS , he has been banned from politics for 5 years . It is a shame that he is so meglomanic , because under different circumstances he could make some very sensible and valuable contributions to the welfare of the country - but I am afraid the leopard cannot change his spots .

I agree with Sirchai - I think this goes on all over Thailand - often with the cooperation of the mother
