Thank you Sheryl -- excellent response !
Too bad that PP is not astute enough to figure this out.
Well, while they're working on it, their Thai customer base is voting with their keyboards....

Does anyone know what is the real reason that Puritans Pride no longer ships to Thailand? They tell me that Thai customs has imposed import restrictions on them. If that is indeed the case, then why are all these other supplements suppliers, (as noted here in a parallel thread), not bound by these same restrictions?
If anyone is not familiar with PP, their product line is the largest of any I've seen anywhere. www.puritan.com

I have a few fertile peacock eggs. If you have an incubator, or a sitting momma chicken, and are interested PM me.
They are free, no charge, but you will have to come get them in Mukdahan. I'm sorry, I don't have time to pack and ship.

Great feedback, guys ! Thank you very much -- you've given me some interesting homework !

Wow! Seems like no one wants to touch this one. Is this not a PC request? (I'm serious -- and puzzled.)
Explanation: I've just had some 500 of my own personal 35mm slides converted to digital format, (*JPGs), and am curious to know what they put in there. And to be able to make corrections if warranted.
Does no one at TVisa do this?

Can someone please identify a secure application for reading and editing a *JPG's metadata? (Secure meaning virus- and spy-ware free.)
Thank you very much,

Thank you for the feedback, Fractured,
Yeah, you are right, the upgrade is not that expensive. Actually though, the problem has been simply the specter of having to add one more thing to my To-Do list. "Priorities" you know. But a factor when my old PSE 4 still meets my needs. Although there is the possibility that I might like it even better and worth the trouble, yes ?
Re backing up PSE itself, I guess that I am already doing that -- I have four RHDs that I clone to sequentially.
Maybe the real answer is that I am just too paranoid.
Trying to squeeze another uncertainty out of this: Suppose that Adobe might pull a Google and simply abandon PSE on short notice. I suppose, after a few moments thought, that this is extremely unlikely, given the popularity of the product and its revenue stream...
So, bottom line, after all this circular reasoning, it appears that the practical answer to my original concern is simply to upgrade and then continue what I was already doing. If anyone disagrees, or has additional comments, you are certainly welcome.

Thank you all for your responses.
Thank you, Ron, for your new topic trial. I have posted a question in there...

I have been using PSE (PhotoShopElements) 4.0 for years now, (I am embarrassed to say how many), but I have been sufficiently pleased with it so have never bothered to upgrade. I am becoming increasingly uneasy however that I am cruising on a dead-end path to technological obsolescence. I am not too concerned with backups of the PSE database -- I have several. What I am concerned about is having my thousands of photos being shackled to one software package design schema. What if PSE crashes or has a bad day and scrambles all of its indexing and captions? The organizational structure of the photos and their captions are essential. But it seems that there is no way to back these up independent of the PSE design. It seems that I am essentially locked-in to PhotoShop forever. And that I am, like it or not, forced into upgrading my PSE before Adobe tells me that there no longer is an upgrade path. Does everyone agree?

I know there are some real champions in this Thai Visa forum, and I do welcome your suggestions !
But what I am really seeking is a broad world-wide perspective as opposed to a "Thai-Visa-centric" (if that's a word) perspective.
Can someone please recommend a favorite discussion group / forum of such character ?
Thank you very much for your thoughts,

Hello Latis, Surin,
Both of you clearly have more experience with peacocks than I. This is a bit off-topic; please forgive me -- your white is beautiful, Latis!
I have had a pair for about four years now, free-ranging on 7+ rai. They have had multiple nests and hatches, but they seem now to be less interested in breeding and the male has pretty much stopped displaying. Otherwise, they seem to be perfectly healthy and happy.
My question: Have they become too old for mating, or have I just not been paying enough attention to their mating season? If that, when is it?
Thank you very much,

I am one of those weird folks that can't throw anything away if there is some possibility that someone can use it.
Is there a nostalgia buff or hobby tinkerer out there that would like a couple of vintage tuner/amplifiers? They are in original boxes, with manuals. As I remember they both worked when last used, except I think one of them needed a fuse.
I also have several boxes of piece parts and cables, etc. that were destined for the hobby bench, but never made it.
.... it's all for free if someone wants it -- just pay the postage. PM me if you have any interest.

Thanks Daffy. Indeed I have found previous TV posts, including your two links, but all that I am able to find are either 1) those like yourself that have chosen to do this conversion themselves, or 2) street locations of services that have provided this service several years ago. Sadly, neither works for me -- because I just haven't the time to do it myself, and I don't live in BKK or Chiang Mai so I cannot easily investigate these street locations to see if they are still in business, or still do these conversions.
What I really need is contact information for a conversion service that someone has recently used. Or, absent that, then can someone please give me contact information for a reliable photography shop, or technician, that might be able to further direct me to a conversion service? As you can see, I am flying blind.
Thank you very much for any guidance !

You're right, I'm late, I'm late -- I should have done this a long time ago...!!
Has anyone had any recent experience with, or know of, a reliable lab in Thailand, or in this part of the world, that offers this service?
Thank you very much for any guidance,

Hi Crossy, thank you for your reply. You are right -- the whole site is in Thai !
What I really need is a pump technical consultant, with whom I can discuss my relatively unique problem, in English, resulting in a make and model recommendation. It doesn't have to be a Grundfos product.
Having tried so many other avenues without success, I finally just thought that maybe a Grundfos distributor might have a broad enough perspective to be able to point me to such a consultant.
(Very briefly, so as not to complicate this initial post, my problem is to identify a pump that can be mounted on a floating raft, to supply river water to a stationary storage tank. Intuitively, it seems to me that a submersible pump would be appropriate, but I am not even sure of that.)
Can you, or anyone else, provide me with a name of a consultant who would be comfortable to address this pump selection problem?
Thank you very much for any suggestions!

Can someone please provide contact information for the Grundfos distributor(s) in Thailand?
Thank you very much.

Let me try again to attach that SB,SBA brochure file:
Do you know of a website where I can price this option, as well as your recommended "install-horizontal" borehole pump option?
Thank you very much !

submersible pumps have very little lift.
**Yep, I used the wrong word there didn't I !
Inverter pumps keep a constant flow depending on demand
**The only example I have so far been able to find of Inverter pumps is Hitachi -- and that is all in Thai. Is "constant flow" what "inverter" means? If not, can you please tell me what it means?
So a small deep well pump works best, they can be laid flat in a PVC pipe (how to encase the pump is shown on the Grundfos web site)
**I guess I'm getting too old -- I have spent several hours in the Grundfos site and still cannot find this. (However I believe you <g>) I did find their models SB and SBA though and they look like they might work for my application -- have you any experience with either of these?

I keep wondering -- couldn't the output flow of a pump that is too powerful be throttled down with a valve on the output side of the pump?
(I am still assuming a submersible pump.) Please reread my OP post above if our context has been lost... Thank you very much.

Hi SantiSuk. Done! Thank you for the suggestion.
Hi ksamuiguy: Not sure what a Divo is?
Can you please explain why/how an Inverter pump would solve this problem? (I am familiar with the term, but not with how it works.)
If you can remember where the bore pump/cooling link is, I would surely appreciate it. (It sounds like you have studied this issue, whereas I'm sure that I would find the wrong link.)
Thank you very much, ~~z.

I have started a thread in TV -- DIY Housing Forum: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/864472-selecting-a-submersible-pump/?p=9990205
I welcome your interest and thoughts. If interested, and to avoid duplication and TV policy, please visit that thread and air your thoughts.
Thank you very much,

Hi Artisi. Sump type. Because of the geometry I'm thinking it would be more suitable for this particular installation.

I need to select a submersible pump for drawing water up from the river.
In rough terms, I would like a pump with a flow range of, say, 20 to 75 liters/minute, over a lift height range of 5 to 15 meters, (depending on the river's water level.) I have studied many performance charts and so far can only identify pumps that are either too powerful, or not powerful enough.
Is there anyone in TV that can assist me -- or if not, can you please point me to someone in the Thai commercial market that can make knowledgeable recommendations? English-language, if possible.
Thank you very much for any guidance.

Keeping a Toe In The Door -- Pros & Cons
in Home Country Forum
Posted
On several occasions I have found it useful to have maintained a home country address -- the USA in my case, via bank, credit cards and a P.O. Box. I have accomplished this through a mail forwarding service. Recently my MFS died. Literally. I am now faced with what appears to be a pretty arduous task of decommissioning the former and finding and engaging new one.
My question is this: What are the opinions of all you well-experienced TVisa expats on the value/utility of maintaining a home country address, and is it worth the trouble and expense?
Thank you very much for your insights,
~~z
