1. there's nothing wrong with AVG. they just came out with AVG 2011 with a host of improvements too.

any AV program you have is bound to miss some things. it's the most downloaded AV software from cnet. not that that makes it foolproof, but it certainly can't be considered 'crap'.

Unless you actually have some professional experience in using the product, maybe you should resist the putting of your neck on the line.

Witness this exchange. We are still waiting for the AVG representative to get back to us.

don't make me laugh out loud. re-read what i wrote again and take it as gospel.

I read what you wrote.. seems that you are taking the same line as the AVG representative on the other thread. Deflecting to the fact that it is a top download on CNET. But that doesn't mean that it is good. It means that a lot of people have know that it is a FREE solution. I used AVG 6 when I first began my use of PCs. Haven't used it since it completely missed an intrusion that AVAST was successful in blocking.

I've lost count of the amount of machine I have had to clear of Trojans because AVG was so ineffective in blocking them.

So don't try to deflect the serious issue of an ineffective product by trying to tell us it the most downloaded. Now that is laughable.

Shame he disappeared as soon as technical questions were put to him.

haven't gone anywhere... didn't see any 'technical questions' either. are you drunk?

and why on earth would you continue to use AVG if it were so ineffective... talk about laughable..

by the way, here's a review of MSE by pcmag (hey, look jiu, it's a 'pro'! laugh.gif)

    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2353699,00.asp

detects only 98% of trojans...and only 90% of adware and spyware samples...

MSE doesn't use behavior based detection either... ugh...

    and to top it off...

" ....left behind significant amounts of non-executable malware traces. That's a better result than I measured - I found that Security Essentials left behind executable files for many of the samples. It also successfully removed all of their active rootkit samples but left several of mine running even after alleged cleanup."...

jiu, you really should think before you go recommending software such as that and sticking your neck out there like that bud.

  2. I believe the world banks and governments who have been propping up their own cronies are only paving the way for a huge crash and the US is well overdue. My last assessment of the US some years ago showed they had 13 trillion in GDP and 11 trillion in debt. But they had not taken into account retirement and the 401k and medical debt situation and that pushed consolidated debt to 19+trillion meaning the US was unable to meet commitments and was technically bankrupt back then! Now we have the so called financial crisis and the Govt has bailed out banks but not corporate America - sure there have been a few high profile corporates aided but it has been Govt helping banks (to help Government). The private corporate sector is about to hiccup and when it does US will fall. Now whilst all the Yanks out here will cry 'foul' it will not stop the failure and mismanagement of their country.

Why would we cry foul? This mismanagement is why I am here. In 2007 sold EVERYTHING I had in the US & moved ALL of my dollars out of the country & converted to other currencies. If a not so smart guy as me could see it, why couldn't all the PHD's of Economics in the world see it coming.

The mismanagement started with FDR & the country has been on a downward slide ever since. The Democrats have been leading the charge and the Republicans have been objecting in public & slapping the Dems on the back behind closed doors ever since..

Until the US Congress drastically cuts entitlement programs (which will never happen) the problems will only get worse. The US is doomed to go the way of ancient Greece, Rome & that empire of yore that the sun never set on.

republicans have been running the country for 19 out of the last 25 years. bush is the one that lead america and the rest of the western world into it's current fiasco. the current admin came into a complete cluster frag caused by the previous 8 years of mismanagement.

  4. I think most of the posts on this topic are missing the point entirely. The main takeaway for me is that many foreigners seem to think they can overstay as long as they like, fork over some cash and board a plane home. Overstaying a few days or so is one thing; but weeks/months, even a year??? What arrogance on the part visitors to Thailand who think such behavior is OK and that the Thai authorities should accomodate their flagrant intransigence. Such behavior is an insult to the Thai people, and foreigners who actually comply with the law. Personally, those who overstay beyond a few weeks should have the book thrown at them; jail time and a hefty fine. And perhaps being banned from being allowed to return to the Kingdom.

the insult, is the joke on us of the whole visa run business in the first place. it has nothing to do with following the rules and law and everything to do with making us jump through hoops and drumming up money. if you don't see that, you're blind.

also, i highly question your skills of interpretation of the story as that was NOT the point of the story by pattaya one. it was that immigration had a change of heads and now they'll be putting farang in jail who overstay past 42 days. nothing more, nothing less.

and it turns out to be completely false, though hopefully this doesn't end up being a self fulfilling prophecy. i.e. farang make a stink about it or start placing calls and then all of a sudden immigration says, 'hey. that's not a bad idea', let's start puttin' them buggers in jail. biggrin.gif

  6. again, this is a simple photo posting thread. go to a historical database website, or better yet go do your own research and post it back here instead of crapping on someone else's efforts. or maybe write to the mods and have them start a historical database forum where it's required to post at least 500 words on each photo.

  7. maybe not interested, but just thought i'd mention a thai friend of mine's golden retriever just had 9 healthy puppies here in CM. both parents pure bred golden's with certified pedigree papers. the father a red/deep golden and the mother a light golden. should be ready in a month or so if you happen to be in the CM area at some point.

  8. Actually, it's horribly sad this story. Imagine: what sort of life has the guy lived? The only way he can relate to a woman (or to his own sexuality) is through a mountain of knickers. (And just think of some of the smells in the unwashed knickers.) He is as sad as guys who buy Playboy or watch the Playboy channel. Lonely masturbatory fantasies. He also lives in a culture that puts a "price" on a woman's head, so naturally he will never be able to see a woman as woman, but rather, only through the lens of some object.

Life is cheap....
men looking at naked women in magazines/porn, or as objects? blink.gif say it isn't so.

and women never look at men as objects or as tools to be used blink.gif

  9. the bank should compensate the family for the ordeal that they suffered.

They did, by dropping the debt.

That they dropped the debt has nothing to do with compensating the family

for the stress and fear caused by the banks own mistake.

Of course they dropped the debt, because no 3 year old boy could

EVER have signed for that, and so if they persisted they would finally

get hurt worse in the end, because the family went public in their panic.

But that has nothing to do with the way that the family was spun about, and yoyo'd around.

And don't imagine that the average Thai doesn't get very scared if a big Thai bank

suddenly says you owe them lots of money.

Its those sort of ideas that has virtually ruined the western world. Anyone with any single iota of intelligence would of known it was a cockup on the banks behalf. People make mistakes. In 'other' parts of the world we've got people sueing each other and demanding compensation over some of the most stupid reasons. Burgular breaks into home and injures himself & the files an action against the home owner for compensation :bah: .

I got a water bill from the moobaan with a couple of extra 0's on it. Realising what they were suggesting bascially wasn't possible I went down to the office and everyone there had a bit of a laugh about it. Are you suggesting I should be compensated. I think you've made a mistake when posting, I never disagree with what you have to say......please forward compensation for your error to my savings account ;)

i think it's hilarious how people WANT thailand to come up into 2nd world status. they come here to get AWAY from the western world, yet they want western comforts and complain when they don't get western standards. ask and ye shall receive. it's coming and coming fast.

  10. Just amazing they've got so much rebuilt/reopen already. In a western country the company would still be trying to get a construction/rebuild permit, tied up in court over claims/insurance, etc.

i think it's laughable you compare thai construction and opening times to western... i don't know about your country, but in america they put up a building in a 1/10th or even 1/100th the time it takes the thai to put up a similar venue.

  11. In July 2009 I bought Thai gold (bullion ) at B14900 expecting the price of gold to appreciate with the decline in the dollar and also I expected the Thai baht to depreciate against the Thai baht giving me a double whammy but alas I have to be content with just making a profit I suppose.

Thai bullion is sold as baht per Baht with one Baht of gold being 96% and slightly more than half a troy ounce.

Lots of interesting strategies and facts on this thread...

    cloudhopper, naam

The truthful bit that I posted earlier "This statement shows why it is important for people reading these forums, to not place too much credence on the expertise of the posters" is only reinforced by my own stupidity. Maybe if I had said "the Thai baht to depreciate against the US dollar" and "that 1Baht is slightly LESS tahn half a troy ounce" it may have made sense. Just enjoy the laugh at my expense as, because I don't drink I can't blame being drunk as an excuse, so I can only confess to being stupid because I don't check my posts before hitting the "add reply " button.

or maybe drunk people should look for meaning, as opposed to errors and mistakes in grammar jap.gif

  12. The immigration officer doesn't understand why such a proposed change was published in the first place, as they had no intention to carry out the imprisonment law, and will just continue applying the financial fine penalties as before.

This must, no doubt be very disappointing for those fellows on this forum here, who in their replies not only accepted the imprisonment law, but rather supported and welcomed it, I am sorry chaps.

  13. why do so many of u complain when Thailand tries to get its act togeather?

What would happen in a western country if u overstayed or even India or Nepal. Jail time-deportation and Blacklisted.

Could it be that oyu all donet wnat thailand to grow up and always remain the country where you can always buy your way out of things. For this country to join the 2nd world they must start enforcing laws, not letting them slide.

but people are still able to buy themselves out. it's just going to cost more. have you not been here long enough yet to see how it works? it's nothing more than a power move by the new head and an excuse to squeeze a bit more out of us. you'll feel the pinch too sooner or later. likely sooner.
