33,000 people a year die in traffic accidents in Thailand, that's 3.3% of the population will die this way. Only 500 from Covid so far, yet they have trashed the economy with COVID lockdowns. Why not ban cars if they really care about people? Which they don't, hence the appalling state of the Thai education system which produces seniority loving idiots, charming yes, but able to think for themselves, not really!! Such a shame, Thailand deserves so much better.

If you can not do a simple % calculation I doubt your ability to construct a reasoned argument or comment.

This became a problem with some Financial Advisors in the U.S. a while back.  Maybe all of them.  We solved the problem by establishing a Power of Attorney with our U.S. Attorney and funneling all correspondence, emails and phone calls with our FA thru him.

I'd stay away from allowing any IFA in Thailand, especially an expat, to manage your money.  They aren't regulated.  If they say they are regulated by an authority overseas, that authority doesn't care what happens when they're operating overseas with an overseas client.  The Thai authorities don't care what goes on between expat IFAs and their expat clients, either.

Thanks NancyL and agree. Fortunately I can run it myself with the Third party that holds all the funds. However I am P***** that having paid the up front fee they have dumped me four years later !!!

  3. Anyone else having this problem ???

As part of my planning to move to Thailand I chose a Financial Advisor to combine and run my pensions. For 4 years they have done a good job, made me some money  and I had no complaints. Then in January and with no prior notice they terminated my relationship with them. To say I was Pi$$$$$ was an understatement and their failure to provide a valid reason for their action only made me more annoyed. I have obviously raised a complaint against the company however my initial thought was 'What the hell do I do now ?'

The funds are held separate to my  Financial advisor with a third party (Standard Life) . Having received an email from Standard Life confirming my FA had dumped me I gave them a call.  As with most companies these days the call system is ''automated to benefit our customers'' (ie kept on hold for ages as their agents were busy !!) however when I did get through the guy I spoke with was excellent. He explained what would happen and answered all my questions really well. Towards the end of the conversation we spoke about his previous / future trips to Thailand and when the borders will open etc. During this less formal conversation he also mentioned that he had dealt wit other overseas customers whose FA had dropped them in recent weeks.

My question is have other TV members been faced with this situation ?  I know some UK banks have made problems for overseas customers following Brexit.  Are UK Financial advisors following a similar path ??

  4. It will be interesting to see the size of grant promised to Nissan. Having suggested that they would close Sunderland when faced with the loss of the Single Market and Customs Union they suddenly went very quiet. Hopefully the information will be made public or will it be hidden for several years along with the details of the trade agreements this government is making. So much for open government.

Sûre seems like a net loss of garment workers to me.  Might have something to do with an uncompetitive currency, ya think?

Naaaaaaaaaa ..... Currency rates are pretty much the same.

More likely a small thing called Covid which has 'slightly' reduced demand worldwide . Not much call for a new party dress or a 'going out' shirt at the moment

  6. Plan to buy a RE Himalayan in the next few weeks. Despite Buriram being the home of Bric there is no RE dealership here (???). Nearest dealerships are KK, Ubon Rat, Udon T but I think I will head to Bangkok given the number of dealerships there. Can anyone recommend which are the larger / best dealerships in Bangkok ?

Yes, if there is turmoil in Thailand the baht will plummet. But, if there is stability it will do better over the next 5 years than the GBP.

Last time there was a 'little turmoil' in Thailand (2014 coup) the Baht hardly changed against the UKP,

At the moment I am more concerned that debt, Covid, Brexit and and the bunch of donkeys we have for a government will crash  the UKP

  8. Almost 3 years since I went through the process however I found it easy to progress at MFA. I used the translation service within the MFA. There are a number of them based from a clearly identified Kiosk on the Ground floor.

I believe the same day service was cancelled several years ago. It was certainly not available when I went. MFA will help arrange postal return for you which worked fine for me.

I don't remember needing any photocopies

    Hope that helps

Pick up a girl on the way to the hotel, let her check in, and you go to the room later.

    Bon Voyage!

That's the way to do it

Recently did a two week travelling holiday with my wife. Each night was a new hotel and I let my wife check us in. I was only asked for my details once after she checked us in and that was at the Hop Inn Buriram (my home province !!!).  (must be PP, DL not acceptable)

  10. Watching the news I am aghast at the queues and length of time taken for people to vote in the US. There are quotes of 1hr to 5hr queues.

In the UK I think the longest it has ever taken me to vote was about 10 mins.

It would be interesting to know if these reports from the US are correct and if so, how they can be justified in a country that can serve fast food in less than 3 minutes.

It would also be interesting to know typical voting times in other countries

  11. As someone once said ' There is nothing to fear except fear itself'.  I would suggest that those deported from Thailand fall into those that commit a crime or abuse immigration laws. You can probably count the number of 'innocent' deportees on one hand over the past 10 yrs. Some people are just not able to live in any country and spend their 'life' in hiding and fear. i knew an American guy who spent 3 yrs in Brazil who never went out except to be driven to work daily........ if you want to live your life in fear then do it but don't scaremonger and suggest the probability of an incident is higher than it is. You are more likely to be struck by lightning or win the lottery than be deported or harmed
