  1. I am pretty safe traveller. I get drunk very rarely and I don't pretend to be Richie Rich and show off, but during the last ten years in Thailand from which I lived 5-years there. I have had my share:

    - My hotel room was broken into. Hotel didn't take any responsibility even though burglar had a key and the hotel was a "better" one.

    - My house was broken into during when I was working in one of the rooms. I didn't notice anything until I stopped working.

    - Twice motorcycling teens though they would like to have my bag, luckily they were bad at it.

    - Once caught pickpocket hand in my wife's backpack

    - Found my friend beaten and unconscious

  2. Recently in chat world I have seen thai's asking หิวตับไหม and really don't know how to answer it. I have heard in song and see it used in 3 Cha comedy show, but woud like to get clarification for it. I have hunch about it, but anyone?

  3. With a little research I have discovered that the big problem is that for a couple of months now ToT have been routing all their international traffic via CAT in HONG KONG !! then it returns back to CAT in Bangkok before finally going on its proper way. This is adding on average about 700mS delay and huge hold ups in busy periods with packet losses too. As most of you normally know all international traffic has to pass via the CAT in Thailand who insist on handling all international traffic which in itself is a PITA and a source of severe traffic congestion.

Actually TOT, TT&T and TRUE have had their own IIG for a while. You can check that here. Problem is that after CAT lost their monopoly, they have been playing ugly. They know that TOT-IIG has limited bandwidth and at rush hour TOT has to use CAT-IIG also. CAT seems to give TOT hard time with that, which is quite idiotic, since there have been plans to merge CAT and TOT.

Big problem with TOT and other big telecommunication companies here is the same old one. They does not have knowledge, but they can not hire any foreigner, since they would lose their face. Also if they would get consultation from foreigner, it would be ignored. Thais does everything like they always does. Their own way.

I have heard many positive things about KSC. It is more expensive, but I need working internet. So I will vote with my money.

  4. Comparing price and quality? Go for a SME package. TOT can deliver 4Mbps in the south, so around Bangkok you must be able to get more. Technical limitations of adsl is 8M down, 1M up. I wouldn't be surprised if you can that in Bangkok.

Actually what I was looking for was little more bandwidth for upstream, but seems like Thailand is not ready for hosting something like am trying to do. I will try to get someone from CAT/TOT to talk, but seems like I have to place my server somewhere else. Kuala Lumbur, Singrapore, Taiwan or even Vietnam seem to be ahead Thailand for putting up working server environment.

  5. Well it might be true atleast with TOT. Yesterday morning I noticed that route to google.com has been routed to KL - London - US backbone instead using shorter route under pacific. Route to japan is now very slow, between HK and BKK 600ms increased response time. Just wondering why at same time some people are celebrating very fast connections with TOT.

  6. Well I dont know if this is true but when my wife rang TOT to find out why our 1024/512 line was so erratic she was told there was a problem with the underesea cable and would not be sorted out til the end of this week

Maybe our more learned friends like Monty can affirm or deny this with a trace route......... I have seen them do it before therefore I know the lingo but cannot fathom how to do it myself

    JAF

This is one of those bull*** answers they give. Do not have to know much to know that undersea cable do not affect adsl-modem link to gateway and that seems to be the problem atleast with TOT. For me, now two weeks, atleast once every hour adsl light goes off and after few seconds modem finds signal again. This same thing happens to my friends in Pattaya and Rayong. TOT customer service gives different problem depending who is answering.

The real problem why they keep restaring their servers is unknown to me. Maybe it is thai way try to reduce traffic... I suspect that their servers are again overloaded and like always, they keep on upgrading them so that they are overloaded again after six month again. That seems to be cycle here.
