  1. I tried using the audio books myself , but I didn't really learn too much from them , because like you send they move to fast for one area to the next .

Also the only way to learn this language revision , revision . Learning someone one day does not mean you will ever remember it .

Lets say your audio book has ten units each lasting 30 minutes . You would start day 1 on unit 1 , day 2 with units 1 and 2 , day 3 with units 2 and 3 .and so fourth . when you got to unit 5 you should start back at maybe unit 2 again . this start the same system from units 6 to 10 . If your only studying sometimes like 3 hours per week I would go over each unit 3 times over a period of 1 to 3 months , But I find also that only relying on audio books is not enough . To avoid becoming bored with this audio book , you should use some online resources . mix it up . As your a beginner you should take it slow and just try to learn 2 or 3 words or perhaps 1 phase per few days .

  2. Yes, of course it is.

However, it requires lots of planning and paperwork.

You should start by contacting the Irish consulate in Bangkok ---- it is internet friendly, and all the forms are available.

It is freezing in Ireland at the moment (you probably know this), so your timing is not the best.

we wont be applying for any visa till after the weather months are over . the info you supplied is most helpfully but i,m already aware of it . thanks
  3. Hi everyone .

just a quick question . Does anyone know , would it be possible to bring my Longterm girlfriend and baby over to ireland on a visa of some kind.

Some quick basic info for now . I,m a student and I just came back from Thailand so no job , and i live at home with my parents . all I have is 10,000 euors in my bank account . we have been together for 3 years and in that time i have been over to thailand 5 times to see her.

her family are also quite rich but she does not have any money in her account as her mother runs the business and has the money .

I will update this topic if need be . also my mother says she will help to be a sponser if that,s any use. we can prove we have been together and prove that i have saving . and our family have saving . but without the job i,m at a long to think what my next step would be .

any help at all would be great thanks . just ask away . I dont need anyone to tell me to go get a job just solutions about what i can do with what i have .

and also i dont want to live in thailand for now because i need to finish my studies .

  4. I hope they safe some of this water for the upcoming dry season. See the headlines already from March 2011 WATER SHORTAGES IN MANY PROVINCES ALL OVER THAILAND, Farmers complain about watering of Golf Greens, Megkong at his lowest level in 100 years etc. etc. etc.....same procedure as every year,- please, wake me up after they learned something from it :jap:

i,m in between korat and chaiyaphum and all seems well down here . some flooding in fields and back streets but nothing to worry about . i drove around all day today without seeing even a puddle

  5. mmm well I was only paying tax while I was working so I guess that doesnt help, as for a PR I wouldnt know where to start.

Bloody hel_l Im 27 and trying to plan a future here seems impossible

From what i have experienced in thailand your no more than dirt . just fork out your money and be happy . you will never own anything in this country . and even if you did somehow sooner or later the thais will have it . dont expext to get anything out of thailand .
  6. Skype Mobile for handsets is available to Verizon USA customers only. It is not available for use by anyone on any other network.

were did you here that from . i use skype all the time on my phone and i have been doing so for over 3 years and i never even heard of verizon . skype is used on many many other handsets and networks .
  7. I have never heard anyone call me khun and i have never used this word before someones name . everyone here likes to call me pee leon . that sounded really funny to me for a while . or nong leon . depending on the persons age of course thats calling me . answering a phone with khun xxxx would be a bit silly alright .

  8. I have no degree, and I also have red dreadlocks and two nose rings. My tattoos I can cover up of course...

    gs

Is that the reason why you are not married?

Not a chance, real men love chicks with tattoos and nose rings and red hair too!!

Ha ha ha! 'Is that why I'm not married?'

    That's hilarious.

    Thanks djvolak ;)

i applied for a 6 month tourist visa . 3x60days . your still a tourist even after 4 months ok.
  9. made many phone calls today just to try to take care of the health insurance issue

not one person could speak english well enough to understand what i was requesting

    unfortunately my thai is limited

i think the 400 - 700 baht a month is a deal hard to beat

to get any kind of coverage with private insurance will cost a great deal more from what i can tell

i also unsersatnd there are one or two dam good goood govt hospitals in sri rachca which i believe i can choose from

currently i am registered with satihip queen sirakit hospital which i understand isnt too bad

but haven't ever used their service

been working over two years full time paying taxes and ss

not sure how the job title plays into this as the above poster mentioned

some goverment hospitals are not the best and i would not even step foot inside then . i have insurance in one of thailand private hospitals for my son . i had to get it . cost me 12,500 for 1 kid for i year . i had to get it because he got sick a week before i had the insurance and 13,000 had to be paid just to find out he had a breeding problem from the air con . i,ve been to goverment hospitals they are not clean but cheap . i just hope i dont ever get sick in thailand . but i,m young still . hope i dont ever need to visit hosipal for anything serious here .
  10. It seems that clare (lack of initial capitalisation) has decided to take a TEFL course so as to be able to teach here in Thailand.... I suggest that she/he/whatever does this.

She/he/whatever should enrol as a LEFL student and not as a TEFL teacher.. her punctuation is atrocious, grammar almost non-existent and coupled with sheer blind naiivety this is not the person that you would want standing up in front of a class containing your children.

Quote I guess youre right... Ive never left home before so I asked the questions that seem most important to me.

Its not that I cant afford a fridge its that I reckoned I dont need one... I might be wrong in the hottest months.

Im not really bothered about safety because I felt safe in Bangkok. I saw the safety tips in the womens forum and one or two of them were about cultural differences like not sitting in the front of the taxi but most were common sense... I dont go out after dark in this country anyway. Unquote

Muppetry at a high degree methinks....

Bridge position vacant....applications accepted in person only. Hunchbacks optional, Scandinavian accent and ability to frighten children obligatory.

I would have to agree with your statement . this girl will not get any job in thailand and should only enroll here as a student . and also does,nt she know that school life in thailand in more difficult than back home in england . note for your clare . class time for a tefl teacher could start at 8am and run till 6pm . with your educated brain i know it will .
  11. When you are new tourist to Phuket of course you will get scammed. The more savvy and well travelled you are, the better you will be, but everyone will be overcharged at some point. Quite simply because you don't know how much things should be and lets face it, you're on holiday so who cares about a few quid here and there.

After you have spent any amount of time here it takes very little intelligence to avoid being scammed. The people who live here and still complain about being riped off crack me up, they're just high lighting the fact that they're not very bright.

i must be one of the lucky ones . i never got scammed and catch in any traps in phuket and i was there for a year . i owe it all to my girlfriend who i met in the airport on day 1 . lucky me . she taugh me everything about thailand . if not for her i,m sure i would have be sucked dry of every last penny i had . i mean come on before i visted thailand i never really ever heard of it . to me it was just some place in asia . i would have forked out any amount of money . but i met the best thai lady . never lost anything . and she only asked me for money 2 times in 4 years . which was not so much . just 1000euros in 4 years .

  12. I'm starting to worry about this wee, naive thing rolling up in the Big Mango.

It scared the <deleted> out of me the first time and I was 40!! The hustle and bustle and traffic and smells and Nelly the elephants!! And I was only there for three days!! And staying in a good hotel.

you have to love school in order to be a teacher . understand . your getting in way over you head . yes take all you money come to thailand wait for it to run out and be on your merry way back home . come on people cant you see this girl is only 18 without a clue .

  13. Poster did provide a scan in post #28 proving, as if needed, the Irish take there drinking too seriously. The visa is a total mess.

i was just looking over my visa again , now what i,m thinking is that all of the information is correct , the only problem is that the big stamp around the visa is the problem . when in fact the square stamp should have been a tourist square stamp that got mixed up the stamps and stamped it with the square non immigrant stamp. thats what he did . so i,m good for 3x3o days . i,m going to leave after the first 60days are up . just only two things i have to think about now is . 1 .. can i explain to them at the border that it is infact a tourist visa . or 2 ring the thai consulte in bangkok . they probably cant help and will just ask me to come to see them or something.
  14. we also save a lot because my wife won't let me keep a mia noi :)

Tell your wife that is something you can't do without :D

I could get a mia noi for free the problem is the wife won't allow it anymore. :D

Surely an oxymoron if ever there was one.

i,m so cheap that sometimes i pretend i cant find my wallet and wait to see will my gfs mum pay the dinner bill. i get away with it half the time.
  15. The police periodically try to clean it up, but it doesn't last long.

With so many places of employment closing and/or cutting back in staff, they have no place to go to sell their wares. It's a sign of the times.

I personally find it interesting to watch the 'show'. Makes for good cheap entertainment.

its so funny , there is more hookers in thailand than their are women in my country . stick them all on a island and then sink it . maybe a firing squad should do the trick
  16. hi all thanks for the advise ill give diana shoping mall a good look , and generally eat more , i have no idea how many callories im eating at the moment but im drinking a litre and a half during a 90 minute work out , i go to the gym 3-4 times per week . and do mixed weights and 20 mins good cardio at the end ,ive been over hear two months and had been taking 60 grams of protien powder 3x per day as well as eating the usual meals so gains were good , however i have not been able to get past 85kilos despite all that effort , ive tried creatine as well but i dont like it ,i just ended up feeling thirsty all the time so gave up

    cheers all

If indeed its running that you do after your workout then i would have to say that too much running will only add to your weight loss. running does not only burn fat . running burns both fat and muscle . so after you have done your precious 90mintues workout your body is done and needs food quick . the muscles fibers have already reached thier limits and need to start repairing themself . putting them throught another 20mintes of excercise will just take away from your workout
  17. Yes. 15,000 bt/month is sufficient for a mother and child to live relatively comfortably in Issan so long as they lived the native lifestyle, but there wouldn't be a much left over for extras. Personally I would want my child to have a bit more in the way of clothes, toys, proper nutrition, games, bicycle, books, be able to go to a movie, a show, an event, a trip, have a computer etc. These things are not really possible on 15,000 bt/month.

    We all agree.

I thought 1,000 dollars a month was enough -you've pointed out the error of my way. It should be at least 2.000 dollars a month.

All her friends and family are living on far more and would be horrified if the OP offered less.

what happens if the guy only makes 2000 dollors a month himself in america , how much should he sent to her and the baby then .
