  1. Dear all,

    Thanks for your kind replies.

    1) As of now, after 6 years of marriage, I still use my maiden name and all of my documents are with this maiden name. That's good if I dont need to change my maiden name to a Thai name, but please give me any reference where it is available. Where can I contact to apply for an Thai ID? Police HQ or amphoe?....Anyhow, I am still curiosity if a person with Thai nationality have a foreign name? Has anyone experienced that ?

    2) I started to applied since 2/2011 and go through quite many steps, got final interview by the MOI about 7/2012, then just got the MOI announcement in early 10/2014. Follow procedure that I read in Thaivisa, maybe next 6 months approximately I can get Thai ID (once the King approve and make the oath)...It is long journey and please be patient, when I almost forgot about it (boring with the follow-up and waiting for no news), it finally comes _()_

  2. May I consult you about procedure once obtain Thai nationality. I can imagine that once I get approval, I will get a Thai ID and Thai passport. How about other steps such as

    1) Change name: Can I keep my maiden name as I am using it now or I just have a Thai name with my husband's family name?

    2) For other documents with my pervious name (such as house registration, driving licience, university degrees, banking account), do I need to report and change all to the new Thai name?

    3) Does Thai allow dual citizens

Thanks for your kind reply in advance. Have a good day!

  3. Thanks Mario and all for kind response. I have also called to 1111 to ask about the steps and they told me

    - to report that I have moved to new address as soon as possible, so I will go tomorrow

    - I can change address of my yellow house registration book anytime. I need to go to new amphoe with my passport + documents from my husband. I will do it on this coming Sat and go to extend my visa next week.

    Cheers

  4. Dear Thaivisa users:

I am Vietnamese, got married with Thai guys 4 years ago, my son now is 3 years old.

After our marriage, we stayed with my parent in law. I got house registration -yellow book with this house. Last year, my husband bought new house and he change his house registration to new house, my son also moved his name to the new house for going to kindergarten nearby. My name is still with the old house though all of us moved to new house.

    My questions are:

    1) Any problem in visa extension if my husband and I have house registration in different house? Should I move my name to the new house prior to apply for 1 year visa extension? Is that the law that if a foreigner move to stay in new place, he/she need to report to the immigration within 24 hour???? 24 hours is counted from the day I move or from the day my name is moved to new house?

    2) In the application of visa extension, we need to provide map/picture of the house, should we take picture of the old house or new house?

Thank you and hope to have your kind response.

  5. Dear all,

I am Vietnamese and will have Thai nationality follow husband soon,I would need to consult you the following:

    1) When I obtain Thai nationality, do I need to have new Thai name and does that Thailand can contain my current family name (i.e., can it be Siriluck Nguyen Klinholm: Siriluck is given name, Nguyen is middle name, also my current last name, Klinholm is my husband's last name)

    2) All of my degrees/certificates in the past need to convert to this new name too? I am currently study Master student, I enroll with VNese name, I will have degree with VNese name I guess. Then is there any forms to confirm that 2 names is the same person???

    3) Can I hold dual nationality in Thailand? Is that still true that I can enter/leave Thailand with Thai passport and enter/leave Vietnam with Vietnamese passport

Thank you for your comments in advance.

  6. Hi all,

I need to consult you again!

My Non-immigrant visa will be expired on 25 Aug, 2012. I will go to Immigration to make visa extension on 6 Aug, 2012. It probably take 3 weeks to 1 month to complete it, let's say 6 Sep, 2012

I need to travel to China on 14 Sep, I need to apply Chinese visa.

My question is " Can I apply for Chinese visa before getting approval of visa extension"??? anyone has experience on getting Chinese visa in Bangkok, doest it take long and whether it has express service......

Thank you. Hope to hear from you

    Rose.

  7. I am Vietnamese who has a 2 year old son. He is Thai. He has his own passport.

So far, I travelled with my son back and forth to Vietnam. The immigration officer in the airport sometime ask me for his birth certificate (as current, his surname and my surname is not the same). Next summer, I would like my son to travel with my mom (who is Vietnamese) to Vietnam. I would like to ask if anyone has experience about this and which document should I prepare (i.e., kind of a letter from parents allow children to travel with grandmom)? Where should I go to make the document legal (i.e., amphoe where I am staying or Vietnamese embassy?)

Thank you for your kind reply in advance.

  8. Dear all,

I really need your suggestion on my case. I am 30 year old lady, holding a Vietnamese passport. I applied visa after my marriage with Thai husband, and I renew visa each year. My last one year visa will be end this coming Aug, 2012 --> I need to go for renew about July, 2012.

My passport will be expired on 2018, however, because I have travelled a lot therefore most of the page of passport was filled, there is about 2 pages left. I would like to go to Vnese embassy to make a new one. I would like to make it first before going to renew visa in July

Since all visa as well as departure cards are with the current passport, if I make new passport, does my visa become invalid and how can I renew my one year visa with the new passport???? Do I need to return to Vietnam?

Thank you and looking forward hearing your suggestion.

    Best wishes

  9. You go to the same office in Bangkok that you obtained your one year extension of stay but fill out a form to convert your current entry into non immigrant (cost 2,000 baht). After that is done you and husband can get the one year extension of stay done again just as before. But to do the conversion requires there be some time remaining on your current permitted to stay stamp so do it this week.

Thanks...do my husband need to go with me?

  10. No, a neighbouring country will be fine. Just take along mariage certificate, copy ID-card and house register of spouse.

But Immigration in Bangkok will accommodate you by converting your current entry into a non-immigrant visa. For that you have to come back after 1 or 2 weeks to receive the conversion, which costs 2,000 baht and then you apply for the 1 year extension for 1,900 baht.

You have to hurry with the conversion, as they require you to have some time left on your current permission to stay to do it.

You can always get a 60 day extension of stay based on your marriage for 1,900 baht.

    Hi Mario,

you mean that now I need to go to a neighboring country and applying for a visa (i.e., tourist visa)? Then going back to BKK for conversion? Can I do anything without leaving BKK?

    Thanks

  11. I guess you are now on a visa exempt entry. You can can go to immigration and ask for a conversion to a non-immigrant visa, with the same papers you use for an extension of stay. Immigration might send you to Bangkok to do this and you have to return after one or two weeks.

If close to the border it might be easier to apply for a new non-O visa in a neighboring country.

    Hi Mario,

Do I need to leave Thailand and start a new visa application in my home country?

Btw, I am living in BKK...What do you mean by " Immigration might send you to Bangkok to do this and you have to return after one or two weeks"

    Thanks and Best
