  1. Shocking!

Being half thai and half caucasian myself, I've never experienced such racism from schools

however I was sent to International schools ever since I got out of Kindergarten, so it was just me being sent to a place filled with more people like me.

I did notice dirty glares from thai students whenever me and my friends walk around or go hangout in popular teen hangout places at the time, but I figured it was rather their disdain for international school students instead of race

Don't send your child to such a school, they are your child after all and time spent in school can really dictate what kind of young adult they will become.

    Goodluck!

PS. you'd think seeing so many halfies on TV they'd favor them! biggrin.png

  2. To be safe, go long pants, but keep it loose.

Blouse with sleeves to elbows is fine. But fabric should not be too thin that we can see the colour of her undergarments.

Don't let the people trying to rent you clothes in front say otherwise.

Dress conservatively, basically. And be respectful of the location smile.pngthumbsup.gif

  3. Golly Gosh, there are THAIS on THAIVISA? I am SO SHOCKED.

No really, how is this news? They've been around even before the political issues stirred up and like you said, certain Thais sign up to keep watch on what foreigners say about them.

I don't see the oddness in finding Thais here, regular thai folks who just enjoy the articles/discussions on Thaivisa, girlfriends, wives, boyfriends, husbands of foreigners who are in Thailand or abroad. Whatever! All kinds.

  4. The double standard is not usually about foreign/Thai, but about rich/poor. Imagine the same situation, but instead substitute a financially well-off Thai for the boyfriend. What would the family do differently? What pressures could or would they bring to bear?

^ This is the exact answer to your question

  5. LOL!cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Every girl I've met/known/befriended or even dated all shed the same amount of hair--which is A LOT! Regardless of race, ethnicity or what country they're from!

It is much more noticeable if the girl has long hair, since it tends to curl into a ball much more noticeably.

I know; I'm a girl, I clog my bathroom all the time biggrin.pngbiggrin.pngbiggrin.pngbiggrin.png

I believe whenever a girl washes herself or brush her hair she should collect whatever hair that falls and then throw it away

    That's what I do anywaywhistling.gif

men shed as much hair as women! it is just more noticeable with men with longer hair wink.png

  6. OK you do not like this government. Fair enough.

But there are over 60 million people in America that voted against Obama and likely half of them dislike him with a passion.

Yet, he cannot be overthrown just because some clowns go into the streets. The Democrats hated Bush but NO effort was ever made to overthrow him because that is not how the constitution is written is it.

America has had mass rallies against presidents for as long as it has existed but NO Coup is allowed.

If you even attempt to march on the White House in mass the US army, Air Force, Navy, and Marines will defend who ever that President is.

If you call for the overthrow of a government without election and act upon it you would be tried for treason and convicted and jailed.

    Agree?

Same is true in most all other democracies in the world.

Thailand is pretending to be a Democracy but in the end, the ruling class does not respect the will of the majority nor does it respect and constitution. I mean it is not as if the Constitution in Thailand allows for overthrow of a government with a coup is it.

Proof that Thailand is NOT as yet a functioning Constitution is watching the military sit by and allow a coup or even help do the coup.

The rich pay the generals and the generals do the dirty work. Likely there is a little fear these days that if mass killings were to occur by their order they could be put under international arrest warrant from the Hague but so far--that has not happened.

    this is terribly, terribly true

but for the most part, the Military's main job is to defend the Royal family and "citizens"--not really the government...they don't really like each other for a long long time now.

Methinks the military wishes to return back into power like they did in the 70s! :D

    oops :X

  7. Welcome to the Thai village mindset. This exists even in the city in a community of neighbors who look out for each other. Of course, not every neighbor looks out for the other and those to step out and try to connect with others will be seen as a viable option of 'lender'.biggrin.png If you don't 'hang' with them they either realize you are very private, or thinks you are so 'secluded'.

Once you are integrated into their community, lending and borrowing is very common. Herbs, plants, fruits will be shared if planted outside your gate (if inside and they walk in and take it, well....). However not every Thai would be fair and equal once something is destroyed. Of course this can be said for many others in many countries!

Now, if you don't like this--how to stop it? We stopped people from picking our herbs and chilis by simply removing the plants and planting them inside our gates. We stopped turning on our street light because now, the neighbors refused to turn on their outside lights. Sure there were complaints, but we just smile politely wai2.gif

tl;dr don't want others to borrow without asking, lock the things up, keep it protected. then they will ask

  8. Hi all, maybe this is a well known information but I'd like to know are Canadians waive from requiring VISAs if needing to travel to the US (for a short period of time say, 1 week)

I'm curious because I carry dual citizenship Thai/Canadian and it's been mentioned many times that I leave Thailand and get to Canada, and I can enter the US without VISA (I do carry both Thai/Canadian passports)

When buying a ticket to travel, would I be using my Thai passport to exit Thailand--or my Canadian one? Can I exit Thailand with my Thai passport and enter into Canada with my Canadian one and then likewise into US?

Help out a newb with lack of info,

    Much appreciated!

  9. Hahaha...yeah, right. You can't sue people in a nation with no basic concept of law, morals, intellectual property, etc. Like trying to fine a tiger or elephant for shitting in the jungle.

And why does any of this surprise anyone? Thailand sided with the Nazis (and Japan, more to the point) in the Second World War...case closed.

Ehhhh no, they didn't side with them. More of after a few hours of fighting the Thais realized they can't defeat the Japanese and allowed them to 'borrow their land' as a base into the british held Malaysia/Myanmar at the time. Thais gave up and said well yes of course haha here is a peaceful agreement for you to borrow our lands while we still maintain our military okay!?

then secretly go and start a resistance movement against the japanese. A sneaky move against them that they allied with the US to do this.

Japanese weren't a favorable group of people back in the 1940s. There are quite a few offensive terms used to call them and to this day the generations of WW2 still dislike Japanese people.

  10. I love hockey, very much so. However I've never been exposed to ice hockey (only played floor hockey) and would love to know how to play ice hockey. But first I'd need to learn how to ice skate more properly right, or should hockey be taught along side with skating?Where can I do that?thanks

  11. I'm a university student looking for a parttime job that is flexible and not too late into the day. I study Computer Graphics so I am quite well literate in Computers. Data entry jobs are ideal since they can be done from home. Fluent in both English and Thai. Can also do translation jobs. I use the Internet often so jobs concerning that is also great. I can also do tutoring jobs for young students who need them. English tutoring.

I am in Bungkeum area, would like jobs in this area or close by.

PM me for offers, thank you

  12. I've been wanting to go back to playing Softball like I did back in highschool--but I don't know of any place that has a proper field (could kind of mock-up our own?) or anyone to play with. Is there some kind of team or place that offers? None of my friends actually enjoy this, and those who do are not in Thailand at the moment. I just miss the game a lot, though when I played it was with a bunch of girls and I was only a JV team and an outfielder...but I still love the sport! Even if I'm not a pro at it. Anyone know of any place I could play this? I still need to get the materials too, might be a little difficult to find--suggestions?

Oh I'm 21 now, played softball back when I was 17.

  14. I am posting on behalf of my mother. She is an older woman looking to find a job preferably near our living place, but if in other areas will be considered as well. She has worked as assistants in the past and have many experience working especially for foreign owned companies. Her English is rather good, she can communicate quite well in English. An office job would be suitable for her. However she's a little on the old side, 50 now but she looks to be more in 40-45. But I assure you her English is great and she is perfectly fluent in Thai. Looking for full time job in areas near Bungkuem, Bangkapi, Ramkamhaeng, Ladphrao, Saphan Soong, Minburi, Ramintra. Further away locations can be discussed. She has had a lot of experience, this I must repeat.

  15. I actually have no job experience, and my College schedule is never the same every semester, so I would like a job that can be flexible I can adjust to fit to it. I am 21 Thai/Canadian female looking for a part time job. Currently a 3rd Year student studying Computer Graphics & Multimedia. I can help with assisting in teaching English if needed, or whatever kind of jobs. Got to try what I can find. Prefer pay by weekly but monthly is acceptable as well. I do not do maid or cooking work--I am not skilled in cleaning or cooking or taking care of very young children, slightly older children I can deal with.

I am in Bangkok, looking in the BungKuem area, or close by.

  16. I am posting on behalf of another woman, my mother who is looking for a job right now. Please contact me for more questions. She is a little bit older, 50 now, but she is strong and healthy just like any 35 year old and she doesn't look 50. Thank you.

we are in Bangkok, looking in the BungKuem area, or close by.
