  1. I'm a non smoker and one of the things that used to annoy me was people being inconsiderate where they smoked

ie- between courses in restaurant or leaving lit cigarette in ashtray, but, after saying that I am against banning cigarette

smoking , I just think it can be the thin edge of the wedge if they succeed.

In the uk it seems at the moment the government either wants to ban something or to put a tax or fine on it. :)

  2. An Australian hotel owner, who only wanted to be known as Sid,....

.......... now you see a lot of single blokes floating around .

As a " Sex Tourist "just back back from Patong ( 08th - 29th ) I can say that if it wasn't for the Patong faithful the place might has well have shut down. I think that most families with kids had either cut short their holidays or gone to other destinations. Most of the hotels and shops along beach road are closed and whilst they are working to get them open it could take them 4-5 weeks if not longer to get them something like, at least the Banana club is open (no one in but the show must go on) I think MICHAELH comments were spot on, I also visted the same places as he did and and they are going to struggle for a long time.

On the bright side on my third week there was more tourist in Patong , more of a mixed bunch, couples, a few families and of course the so called "sex tourists".

They have also now got sunbeds on the beach ,whilst some people might not like them ,it certainly better than lying on towel. I definately enjoyed myself and whilst it is a sad time, people who live and work in Patong have to eat and pay their bills and the the only they can do this is for tourists to come back, any tourist.

I don't know when the photo of soi crocodile was taken but anyone who has been to Patong knows that this is one of the busiest sois and on the last week I was there it was very busy with couples as well as groups of guys

  3. I am sorry to interlude, but as to the point made about the tasks at hand, accepting it was serious, meaningful and I am sure thoughtful as implied, but, asking a politician to be non-political especially two months before an election, anywhere, is like asking the Pope to not be Papal the week before Easter. It’s just not in the cards of life and reality.

It is indeed surreal to see people in Speedo adornment with beach chairs and beer in hand lounging and partying on the beach and in the bars along the streets, while, in the same "TV moment", being shown and told, a mile or so away, bodies lie out, in widely scattered areas being processes for ID and burial and in the same area, walls of hundreds of missing and their photos are being frantically scoured over by those still looking for the not yet accounted for.

I am sure, if a factual reality on the ground, a person walking from one area to the other would indeed be subject to different reactions.

I do not judge it, as I am not qualified or ordained to do so, I just find the contrast eerily difficult to balance as a reality and as such see its contrast easily a cause of emotional reaction both in the affirmative and negative.

    That is all!

  4. :o As a resident in the UK I must congratulate George reporting the Mark Lemetti murder well before the UK papers, and I must congrat George and all you who input in the site . great reading. As you see I use the word murder!! to make fun of it then to put in it writing seems sad! to say the least, as a farang and I assume most of you are fellow farangs either resident in Thailand or regular visitors, the murder of a farang is a serious and sad affair (as is any murder)
