1. Hi just a few more questions as better to look stupid now than later, there are just a few things that are worded on the VAF5 application form which I am finding difficult to understand.

    · Travel dates 'on which date will you leave the UK.'

As my wife is coming to join me in the UK and live indefinitely do I need to enter a leave date?

    · Other names (including other names you are known by and/or any names that you have been known by.

Like most Thai my wife has a nickname and she was also married before so do I put both of these names down?

    · What is your total monthly income from all sources of employment or occupation after tax?

As I am provided for my wife and she doesn't work would her answer to this be 0 Bhat?

    · Is the EEA currently living in the UK if yes when did they arrive?

As I have always lived in the UK as I was born in Northern Ireland but have an Irish passport what answer would I give for this question?

    · Do you intend to work in the UK, if yes please provide proof?

As she is coming to live with me but when she arrives does not have a job but does intend to work in the future, would I just state this in the extra information part.

Thanks in advance for any info on these questions.

  2. You say you 'had to go through the buddhist ceremony' like it was a visit to the dentist or something!

My wedding was a fantastic day, one that I'll remember for the rest of my life.

The two whole days mucking about in the Amphur also sticks in my memory, but for different, cushion-related reasons! :)

Mate even if it was and it wasn't who are you to comment on how I felt or didn't feel on that day as I was trying to keep the post on topic and not going of on a tangent as so many people seem to do.

As for my wedding it was a great day.

Walking through the village dancing with my dancing entourage, great crack.

Reciting the Buddhist scriptures to enter my wifes house and getting it correct to the applause of the village. Priceless

Sin Sod. Not happy but had to be done.

Eating the egg, As the eating of the egg is easy it's the swallowing thats the hard part which is to signify marriage. New is good

Swapping the Ring. Will never forget even though I put it on the wrong finger 'tit'

Karaoke, Well there is a singer in all of us.

And getting Married to the most amazing person inside and out. Jesus, if this was like going to the Dentist I would be friging toothless by now : )

As for the Amphur part it was done and dusted in about 30 mins as it is just the legal part for me the wedding was all about the family.

  3. Yeah I do, I just did the whole thing in one as I had to go through the buddist ceremony part of the marriage with her Family, relitive and freinds to appease the family and get her families blessing (walking through the villiage and all) and it was just easy to go to the local Ampur to register the legal part where I was in formed by the boss man that I was the first ferlang to get married in that Ampur which was a bit of a buzz.

Not too sure about getting married in any ampur and then changing their ID card as I just went on what I had read.

  4. Yeah once you get the Affirmation of marriage there is a translation service on the first floor of the mall across the road from the british embassy entrance, I would advise to go there as the service is excellent and not only does she translate the affirmation she will complete all the form the you need for the MFA stamp. I was surprized by this as when I got to the MFA i didn't know she had done this and the whole processing time in the MFA only took about an hour and the service only costs about 500 to 900 bhat

  5. Hi I am holder of dual nationality as I was born in Northern Ireland ahold an Irish and British passport, I am working in the UK and have done so for 3 year for the Civil service so I meet the requirements for applying for my wife who is Thai and at the moment living in Thailand but am unsure how I should approach applying for the EEA Family permit.

I have all the info and know my wife has to apply from Thailand for the family permit but do not know if this can be done by post or does she have to make an appointment with the British Embassy.

Also Is it okay that I have my photo copy of my passport signed by a civil servant in the UK to confirm that this is a true copy of my passport ?

Any information on the process would be helpful and thanks in advance

    Jeff

  6. Thanks for that 7by7, I was also wondering if you can help me with this query ? I am coming to Thialand to get married next month but hold dual nationality, Republic of Ireland and the UK. I am going to get married as a UK citizen as the waiting time is less for the Affirmation of Marriage when appling with the UK but was thinking about applying for an EEA spouse Visa to bring my wife to the UK, do you have any info on this?

  7. I am Getting married next month In Thailand but am not going to apply straight away for the Visa but leave it for maybe another six month while I make sure everything is secure i.e bank balance ect., I have read I can apply for a spouse Visa which will permit my wife to stay in the UK for up to 27 months before I have to apply for a settlement Visa. Any help or information on these processes would be invaluable to me has I am having difficulties trying to understand all the information.

    Regards

    Jeff

  8. Thanks 7by7 I have read a lot of your posts and you seem to know what you are talking about, can you help me with info about the Visa, I am getting married next month but am not going to apply for the visa until about another 5 months down the road, is it true I can apply for a spouse visa for my wife to stay for two years in the UK, then once she has been in the UK for 2 year apply for the settlement visa. Any help would be appreciated as I am trying to understand all the info relating to this but it seems sometime quite conflicting.

  9. For a paid option, there is 18185 But even though it is 3p per message, if you insist on sending messages that are the equivalent of six messages, that will still cost you 18 pence.

How do I activate this option on my phone, and yes I do send long messages back to the UK maybe this is why it is costing me around 30baht but I do not have the option of using e-mail all the time.

  10. I am living in Issan and sending SMS to the UK which is costing me around 30bath per message via Dtac, Is there a way without using the internet that I can get cheaper SMS which I can still send via my mobile telephone to the UK. I can register on the internet but just don't have the time to keep send SMS online. Can anyone please help me with this.

  11. Monday 8am, submitted the Freedom of Affirmation to Marry to the British Embassy.

Can I organize a the TB test in the UK and bring the documents with me or does this have to be done in Thailand ?

Where would I obtain the Freedom of Affirmation to Marry?

Monday 8am, submitted the Freedom of Affirmation to Marry to the British Embassy.

you apply at your embassy.. in bkk,,

Yes, but does the TB test need to be carried out in Thailand or can I have it carried out in the UK and the cert will be recognised by the thai officials ?

  12.
... and how about starting here: http://www.youtube.c...76Vo0fxkNPE

I am from Northern Ireland and Half Chinese half Catholic but brought up an Irish catholic in a time of troubles, guns, bombs, et al. I understand a countries music and how it strength a commuity to it's plight, as mine follows me around where ever I go. The North Thialanders and the northern Irish Catholic have more in common than a lot of people think but for my part my Thai is poor so I can not understand if these are songs of strife, persecution or the battle for a fair life and my friend I wish I did. I know Issan people and there love for Issan music is as strong as the Irish for there's, so maybe apart from the odd rhetorical response and quick pos maybe an explanation might be good to further understand Isaan music as I do wish to.

I know where you're coming from, op, if you're referring to the typical karaoke-type sound... samey bands on TV, etc. Unfortunately, there ain't much scope following the traditional norms here. There is some talent out there, but Thai music only gets good when they follow the Western lead, as in rock. Compared with Indian song and dance, Thailand is like 300 years behind.

Mate don't get me wrong, as as above I do not know the lingo, hence my post to be maybe educated in the country side of things.I have just seen Christy Moore (voted one of the top Irish singers of all time) at £30 a pop and was frigging amazing, the love in Thai music I can understand. but is it all just love and heart break ,or is there something I am missing this is what I would like to find??
PLEASE GUYS READ BETWEEN THE LINE AS I DID HAVE A FEW DOZEN JARS AT CHRISTY'S

  13. I Love music and listen to everything form rock to country, rave to Indie but Thia music just leaves me numb.

I have been seeing a thai girl for a while so I though for her sake I would give some of her tunes a listen too and apart from a simple track by Masha

(i know there is a romantic in all of us) all Thia music seems to follow the same formula, is it me or does all Thai music seem to lack attitude, no offence to Thia people as as a race I think you rock (no pun intended) but it is just the music I find so same same and not different.

Anyone else have the same feeling.
