went 2 days ago for an extra 30 days visa exemption with my UK passport. when i reentered thailand the officer looked through my passport for any recent walk in entries. He found one from earlier in the year and wrote in a circled 1 next to the stamp and wrote in a circled 2 with the stamp he was giving me. He said that i was allowed 4, not sure if he meant that on the 4th time he would refuse entry or after 4th entry that i would be refused.

a friend of mine recently had to pay 37,000 baht tax for her thai massage shop in chiang mai, which is a helluva lot for her.

it got me wondering. Since the government that the people elected has been removed by force by the army, then who exactly is she paying?

Where i am from in the uk, each year in april the people collectively pay their contribution to finance the policies and projects that they elected for.

Put yourselves in my poor thai friend's shoes, i feel sorry that she has to pay this money. It seem to me that people would be well within their moral rights to withhold this money until a new government can be elected to which they can pay their taxes to.

i arrive from chiang mai to P-Lok bus station on the weekend, and then i want to rent a motorbike to drive 50km to visit a friend near Pichit. Does anyone know if there is a bike rental place at the bus station?

Why must you be a monk in Thailand in particular? Pretty affectatious. Which goes against what a monk is supposed to be like. What's wrong with being on in your own country? Not 'trendy' enough?

yes there are too many monks in thailand already in my opinion, if you do decide to go please be careful in choosing which Wat. There are many Wats where the local population is already strained to upkeep the monks, so try no to add to the suffering.

The drain is twofold, not only must the monks be provided for, but also this significant percentage of the workforce who would otherwise be working is removed from the local economy.

We have Thai friends living near the gas station and they still don't understand why the ambulances still come and go to the blaze site. Last time they said that was yesterday!

Last night around 6.40pm I looked up at a very clear sky (by Phuket standards) which was just going through the transformation of blue into darkness. There was a large, beautiful bright star or planet just down & slightly angled to the right away from the quarter moon. I wonder what it was.

It uses the phone's gravity sensor to locate you on the planet, so that when you point your phone at the sky, it shows you on the sky map what you are looking at.

its really great to see a star or planet then use Sky Map to find out what it is you are looking at.

I always wanted to look at the Andromeda Galaxy but had to idea where in the sky to look, using the Sky Map search function i searched for Messier object 31 (andromeda) to find it.

quite often i go up to promthep cape at night to play around with it.

i have a non-imm education visa which i had processed at phuket town immigration office, and is also where i do my 90 day reporting. At the moment i am on a short break from studying in between courses and i would like to go abroad but i am currently in bangkok. Can i only get the permit from the phuket office?

in a previous post i conveyed my grievances at percieved inequality in thai buddhism.

today again i saw something that made me sad, while waiting for my ferry to langkawi i noticed a group of monks and nuns drinking coffee in the ferry terminal coffee shop. I also ordered some coffee so i could observe their behavior. It saddened me when the nuns felt the need to take role of waitresses by serving the monks their coffee and cookies. One of the two nuns was around 60 years of age, and to see her having to kneel on the floor while serving coffee to a 30 year old monk made me realise that simply because of her sex, she commands a lower status than these younger monks. Surely she has sacrificed in life as much as a male monk?
