  1. Why did you make the booking if you didn't want to take the trip? Or am i reading it wrong.

You tried to book a flight, you saw an error but the booking did go through, but you didn't actually want to make the booking?

Why did you enter your CC# for a flight you never planned on taking? :o

Not excusing the website error, but story seems odd?

We ain't getting no answer because, well, the story is just so focking stupid!

  2. Quoted:

"No fee for the visa, this seems very strange. Also was it a 1 year Non-Im O ?"

Surely it is a 1 year visa since it is multiple entries. But free, no that can't be possible. A visa like that is gonna cost you 5000 Baht.

I thought there was a fee too, but surprisingly the lady did not ask for a fee, that's for sure. I didn't ask more about it eather, free is ok for me :o

But are we talking about the same Visa? I have a 1 year multy-entry non "O" visa, but I still have to do these visa runs every 90 days (because i can't show that me or my wife together pay taxes for at least 40k).

Yes, we are talking about the same visa. I also have to do visa runs every 90 days. The 1-year Non Imm visa with multiple entries (this has nothing to do with extensions at Immigration in Thailand) costs roughly 5000 baht. For example, the consulate in Sweden last time charged med 1000 SEK, which is 5000 Baht. In Penang (you can't get it easily anymore) it's 500 RM.

What nationality are you? I find it strange that some nationalities are still getting visas for free. Yes, sure, a long time ago us Swedes got visas for free in Penang, I do remember this. It was stamped "gratis" on the visas. This was after we had joined the EU. Before that we didn't even need a visa, we got 90 days right at the border.

because i can't show that me or my wife together pay taxes for at least 40k

Surely you must mean that your combined INCOME isn't 40 grand per month.

  3. Ok I'm all confused here. How come it's 100 ringgit? I've applied there for SINGLE ENTRY NON-IMMIGRANT -B Visa twice already. The first one in June 2006 (then I had to apply again cause I wasn't able to get a work permit within the period) and most recently, last November 20, 2006. On both occassions, I've paid 200 RINGGIT. Is it possible that I've been overcharged? But I'm pretty sure I've read the postings on the bulletin that it's 200 Ringgit! for non-immigrant B.

It is 200 RM for a single Non Imm. Sorry.

(100 RM is for a single Tourist.)

  4. We are talking about Non Imm visas here, since you can't get a multiple tourist.

But even then, I think a single Non Imm is 100 ringit, (a double should be 200 ringit) and a Multiple Non Imm is 500 ringit.

A tourist visa, one entry, is 100 ringit. Two entries is 200 ringit.

  5. and here is the lastest news about VISA in Thailand:

" The End of the Thailand Visa Run "

I saw this, earlier today, when George had "copied and pasted" from that site:

You have illegally posted a story by David Fulbrook which you lifted from Asia Sentinel this morning. You did not ask permission to do so and you are thus in violation of copyright. Your site -- I am aware that you are one of the operators -- is a revenue generating site and so you are using our intellectual property to further your own business. This is unethical and illegal.

We demand that you remove the story in question, The End of the Thailand Visa Run, immediately and refrain from stealing our material in future. This is theft, plain and simple.

  6. The child was cremated, but the couple believes it may have been another girl. Of course it's very tragic whoever this cremated girl was, but I really hope that they will eventually find Solitaire alive. I myself have a daughter in that age. I feel so sorry for this couple.

But since I haven't seen anything about this story since middle of December, I suppose nothing new has arisen.

  7. Poipet update.

Yesterday, Sunday Nov. 27, I went for my monthly trip to Poipet. Departed 06.30 from Morchit, arrived at Aranyapratet about 11.00. It took slightly longer than usual. Ticket is 197 Baht, then it is another 50 baht at bus station in Aran. Walk to the 7 Eleven store at the corner, main road. Otherwise it is 70 baht at the point there the bus drops of the passengers.

The line (foreign passport holders) at Thai departure was not that long, maybe 10 guys in front of me. The line for the Thais was however long. Unfortunately the line at the Thai arrival was very long, it took me about two hours to get stamped in to Thailand. Ok then, here is my report:

No problems at all at (Cambodia) Visa on arrival, the guy (not an immigration official) is really helpful and he doesn't expect any tips unless you really want to give him. Best is of course to fill in the form yourself. The price is still 1000 baht (dollars is not accepted). Just to mention, I heard the price at the embassy in Bangkok is now 1100 baht, or 25 US. Useless to go over there anymore, that is. I don't know if one still can get it for 20 US if prepared to wait for a few days. However I don't think it is worth the hassle just to save 200 baht.

Ok, anyway, back to the border: when I came to Cambodian arrival I overheard the conversation in front of me. It went like this:

How long will you stay in Cambodia? (official)

I will go back now, immediately. (tourist)

You have to pay 100 baht. (official)

Suddenly the guide interferred, because he had come with one of these organised visa tours. He said something to the official in Thai, I couldn't understand everything but there was something about the guy shouldn't pay anything (these things maybe are settled beforehand, what do I know). And he didn't have to pay, I saw everything clearly. When it was my turn I just said that I'm gonna stay for a few days, this is a simple solution to the problem. I was just surprised because I have never been asked for money before at Arrival, but I suppose this is possible because of the stapled Departure form and what this really means. The thing is, is your Departure form is stapled, it means that you have not yet made any contribution (at Cambo arrival) and if you are going to return the same day you have to pay 100 baht (at Cambo departure). It is 100 at Poipet, maybe more at other places. I asked the guy in front of me, which was a very friendly man from Pattaya. He showed me his passport, his departure card was NOT stapled, mine was. And the visa was issued at the consulate i Sakaeo, not at the border. He said that they stopped for a while, he never understood what they were doing in Sakaeo but it was of course a visit to consulate by the tour guide. I just assume that they still can get the visa for 20 US, because otherwise it would be hard to make a profit when the tickets are sold for 1800 baht. I suppose it is because of intensive competition in Pattaya, in Bangkok it still is 2000 baht.

I told him that going to Had Lek border, or maybe Pong Nam Ron, would be better since he is living in Pattaya and not Bangkok. He said that the tour company had told him that they used to go to Had Lek, but not anymore. No reason for the change was given.

A final word: an Asian looking man in front of me had to show funds at Thai arrival. But no problems, he had lots of it.

  8. Do you work for this company? He asked for the bus station, and the answer is Morchit. How often? Well, it depends on where you want to go. I suppose you meant Aranya Pratet, and the buses leave every half an hour, I think. Starts early in the morning, less than 200 Baht. It should take about 4 hours one way.

The best border, however, is Pong Nam Ron (Baan Pak Kad), but it is quite difficult to get there on your own compared to Aranya Pratet / Poipet.

The border closes at 7 or 8 PM, correct me if I'm wrong. Yes, you can come back same day, just look a little bit further down in this text how you should behave at departure. But there are cheap guest houses near the border if you want to stay overnight in Cambodia.

And no, Jack Golf is not the best. I had to stay in line like everybody else. No VIP service anymore, but the price is still the same (2000 Baht).

Best is to do it yourself.

    A few things to remember:

    - The price for the visa is 1000 baht, place the note in the passport at Visa on Arrival. (Bring your own pen, ignore everyone who wants to help you, for a fee of course.)

    - Ignore the guys who wants you to come over to the "Quarantine" corner, to give a donation (this is also at the visa on arrival).

    - At arrival, nothing special is to be said. Just don't give money to anyone.

    - At departure, pull out the staple from your departure card DISCREETLY. Then you don't have to pay anything just because you go back to Thailand the same day. This is a signal to departure immigration officials that you have already made your contribution and/or you are travelling with a visa run company.

    Good luck!

  9. Anyone who got the elite card is a total idiot.  They played you the trick and now you are the ELITE JOKE!!!!!!!!!  Typical of the Thai BullShitt.

If they tried to pull this crap in America, it would be another huge Watergate, and all the politicians including Toxin would be landing in Prison.  The charge----  Fraud and Rackateering.  The very same charges USA uses to bring down the Mafia and their leaders of today.

Besides this card is DEAD, and has been buried and given the cremation funeral a month or so ago.

    Daveyo

I couldn't agree more (see my earlier post), even if I was a little bit more nice than you when I criticised the person who bought it. Ok, I maybe shouldn't call him stupid but maybe easily duped is a better word. And I don't belong to "the needy", I just said that throwing 1 million away for this card is the last thing I would do and that giving it away to welfare would be much more appreciated.

There is also a thread somewhere else on this forum, but I cannot find it right now.

It could be on "Jobs, job search, economy, banking, business and investment in Thailand" or perhaps on "Farang Pub - fun, food, entertainment and Expat life".

I just remember that the postings there were pessimistic, to say at least.

  10. So, you actually bought this card? You are amongst those 9 people stupid enough (if you pardon me) to give 1 million for this? Is it actually worth it, seriously? I wouldn't pay even 100,000 for this. I prefer to do the visa run every 15 months to Penang, it is not that expensive. And the other so called benefits of this card... Well, I couldn't care less. It is simply not worth it.

Money doesn't come that easy. Why didn't you give 1 million to the needy instead?

  11. When I was at a Cambodian border I was asked to produce 1200 Baht for a visa on arrival. Since I know the price is just 20 US (about 800 Baht) I asked the immigration officer if I can pay in dollars next time. The answer was no. I am now wondering if this is the norm and if I therefore always have to apply at the Cambodian embassy in Bangkok in order to avoid getting cheated at the border in the future? After all, it is a steep 50% increase of the fee if you apply for a visa on arrival.

Also, I have heard many different stories regarding the amount you have to pay if you just want to stamp your passport at the border. The Cambodians are demanding everything from 100 to 300 baht. Is it possible to just pay 100 baht? I have tried, and they always say that I have to pay 300. I'm almost certain that the operator of "The Visa Shop" in Pattaya told us that it's just 100, and that he would take care of that matter. (I have done the trip by myself after that first time I was travelling with them.)

Speaking of organised visa tours, anyone have a clue about the amount these guys have to pay for the Cambodian visa? Certainly I cannot be 1200 per visa, when you think about the total cost for the trip (2000 baht incl. everything). The profit cannot be rather big in that case, can it? Just curious... maybe they have a special deal (i.e. paying the actual price of equivalent 20 US). I just don't like to get cheated by several hundred bahts just because I'm not travelling with an organised tour. First they charge me more for the visa and I also cannot pay in dollars. After that, I get cheated when I have to pay the "unofficial fee". I would accept 100 baht, but I think 300 is far too much.
