  1. ok HONEST, I have never actually counted or been concerned but for the benefit of answering the question I totalled my credit card payments and cash withdrawals for 365 days.. My daily spend is 1895 thb...seems ok for me smile.png I might add. this of course is what I deem as "essentials" my needs and wants may be far different to others. For instance I include imported beef and cheese with I consume daily and for me these two are essential... Of course when I add my total living cost including my mortgauge its 7234thb A DAY!! hahaha

  2. OP you lived in thailand did you work in thailand and earn thai wages?

Because of the exchange rates between the USD and bht the costs would seem much cheaper for you.

I got by on about 40,000-50,000 baht a month from my internet biz. I had TONS of money for fun. There was never a dull night. I lived like a Thai and blew the rest on vice. Could never do that here.

Not to sure about that..Last time I was in the states I didnt see anything "vice wise"that I would have spent my hard earned on, they were mostly ugly.fat and loud mouthed..

  3. ahem, can I be the first to say 'this kind of thing can happen anywhere'?

Ahem, excuse me, not sure from where you are from but, ZERO first world countries I have been to have Taxi motos and open 3 wheel trikes for general public hire..

Perhaps you were just exaggerating a tad?

Taxi robberies of course could happen most places on the planet, except Antarctica as there are none there as yet...

  4. I reckon it's more of an "old" generation thing, my Dad said something similar years ago and I took him aside and corrected him.

Not that what they say is actually incorrect it's more about when it's said and who it's being said to. I don't think your dad is a racist at all...

    Wow tips that's really deep....................................I think..............coffee1.gif

Indeed. I wish people would proofread what they wrote, and correct it, PRIOR to posting. Or at least have the decency to reread what they posted and correct it.

To me, tips post is nothing but jibberish.

Geez for a first post I rather thought it was quaint....rolleyes.gif

    Another one joins the fold.....

  6. One of the best things I ever did in Thailand was to cancel TOT, their speeds were pathetic, How I got out of my 12 month contract was I called them daily, insisted on them coming out to repair, after a month of them coming out I was informed that the 12 mb I was promised was not available in my street this giving me a "get out" option. I then moved over to 3 BBB bought an unlimited 12 mth plan and paid 5400thb for a year upfront, in the 4 months I have had it they have been out once and that was due to rain effecting their equipment, one phone call and within 2 hrs problems fixed. The plan I have is unlimited and I download torrents daily my use averages around 200 gig per month and speed is constant..EXCELLENT service

  7. " carried on driving for almost a km and then stopped to find a car stuck to the back of his truck which was on fire."

Correct use of mirrors for the driving test

Inadequate use of mirrors is not only a very common reason to gain minors in the driving test, it also leads to many driving test failures.blink.png

The back of a truck is a blind spot, what amasses me not only hearing the sound like an explosion, he must have felt some of the impact, he could have reasonably suspected it was a blow out but why did he not stop sooner to investigate.

12 tons of steel plus, let's say, another 2-3 tons for the 10 wheeler itself. I suspect he felt very little as the car mass is low in comparison plus it crumpled the front end of the car cushioning the impact more. May have felt he came over a bump.

Just for your and others information..

A "10 Wheeler flat bed ( tray ) truck has a tare weight of approximately 12 tonnes of course this can be vary slightly depending on configuration... Further it would IMPOSSIBLE for a driver not under the influence of drugs or booze not to feel the cars impact, regardless of whether the car was in flames or not, this is not just unlikely it is plainly 100% impossible. The driver is a liar pure and simple. :D

Ok, it's annoying, but taxi drivers should not be prosecuted for refusing fares. It's their car, it's their source of income, it's their decision. And yes I've been refused, but I've also walked away from taxis where the driver was clearly drunk or looked exhausted from working too long. Choice is a two way street with taxis.

Driving recklessly, now, that's completely different. Ban them for that, refusing a fare is one thing, endangering others a totally different one.

Agreed. It is a taxi driver's right to say yes or no to a destination, IMHO.

If a taxi driver is planning on knocking off in 30 mins, then gets a fayre which takes him/her to the other side of BKK, as an example, 100Km away from home... why should he not have the right to only accept a few fayres which keep him within range of home, and his knocking off time? There are many such examples of a taxi drivers right to accept or refuse a fayre. Should a taxi have to accept a passenger who is inebriated, for example? The list is endless... and it's not a long wait in most places for another taxi to come passing.

So how does the country / any country ensure there is a workable, reliable taxi service.

To me this equates to allowing / continuing to allow a restaurant to prepare / serve food which is contaminated in some way.

In regard to shift change, why not use the same system that's been in place in Singapore for decades and works, they put a large print sign in the window saying:

'SHIFT CHANGE 4:00 PM' or whatever.

    Not difficult.

The reason they cant/wont do it here is because MOST that use that reason are LIARS..

  9. I wonder how the police feel now about doing police work

Hardly police work, I would think wheel clamping would be the responsibility of the city such as it is in most countries, police are usually only used for more important work than this, having said that this "clamp down" is warranted and good on the powers that be that have ordered it...
