  1. hey peter, i love waking up on the beach aswell, but im 27 and just traveling throught S.E. asia, i live in KL but i dont work, just blowing the money ive saved in the last few years, ive been here over a year though and ill be here for another year or more, so i cant get everything i want ;(

anyway if theres any food i should try in vietnam(ill be based out of hanoi the whole trip) let me know, i think the pho is the same noodle the chinese call kow teow? ill try that but not sure about anything else, i eat vietnamese food here but dunno how it compares to there

  2. hanoi, ha long bay, perfume pagoda and tum cok or something like that

woulda liked to see the beaches etc but a beach is a beach ...and phuket as plenty of those, ill get some dong lol

  3. actually you can get bacon in malaysia its just sould in non halal sections almost certainly by chinese...and its good

langkawi, wentt there 3 times last year its a great place not busy at all, great food the wet market in kuah town on the weekends is nice, plenty of bars if thats your thing, lots of motorsports etc best part is you dont gotta worry about people scamming you and for me i love how cheap the chocolate is

anyway back to vietnam im going for a week after my stay in phuket i heard they primarily use USD but should i bother getting the VND just so i dont get screwed by the hawkers or what?

  4. the food in china town is dirty as hell and there are an obscene amount of harrassing taxi drivers everywhere u go, either towards puda raya or towards the lrt. not only that the food sucks and is over priced, whereas any bus in brickfields can take u anywhere in the city easily or u can take monorail or LRT within 1-2 mins walking distance

china town is an option ...sure i guess, but it sucks, brickfields is so much easier, u get off the flight hop on a bus next thing u know ur in KL sentral walk 2 mins to your hotel, check in and thats it and way more options for travel and the food is much better and cleaner

if u want a good cheap bars u can go to jalan klang lama half a heart beat away, or u can take to midvalley or bukit bintang easily. and be there in no time, how long is a bus gonna take to get the fuc_k outta china town with its traffic? if i wanna get to old klang road for kickass food or good bars im there in a second

imo anyone who actually likes chinatown just likes the smell of shit and ridiculously dirty food, sub par chinese food and malay food and any other food. u wanna get ripped off buying in the market yea go do that. u wanna eat dirty shit food and go to a dirty ass regae bar go do that

  5. no, when u arrive in KL sentral, if u arrive by bus and your underground in a tunnell, instead of going up the escalator, u can walk straight through(everyone will be walking the same way in the tunnel either towards or away from the escalator/stairs) and find your way walking untill you come out into the street, from there you will see a gas station, a cross walk and YMCA is straight ahead

any other way u arrive KL sentral just ask the concierge how to get to YMCA, and the bus is the best choice to get to KL sentral from any airport its fast and cheap i think 8 RM usually

    YMCA is good if your not bringing anything valuable, its still good if your are but this place is also good;

    www.myhotels.com.my

its right next to my girl friends college and YMCA next door to old town kopitiam. kopitiam sucks though dont eat there...

there are more and cheaper ones to i think if u want me to pop in and get the email and contact i can do i walk around brickfields everyday

the place i listed above said usually u want 1 week in advance booking i see alot of white people there so its probably good, the flyer says starting at 98 RM so like 1k baht, the YMCA is like 80 or 90 RM im not sure but theres plenty of hotels here, ill look around sorry for late reply was in penang this weekend

and if u dont feel like looking around kl ill list the good food places in brickfields for you, not many pubs but plenty of places for beer

  6. GOM brickfields is the area that KL sentral is located in, its where you must go anyway, and is where all the trans, LRT and monorail aswell as busses travel to and from and if u do like to explore is the best place to stay for a tourist as its easy to find your way back from any mode listed above

like was stated early the YMCA is right next to KL sentral but so are plenty of other hotels that dont have the bad track record that the YMCA does for theft etc.

as for inexpensive i dunno what your budget would be, to me the two indian places i suggested are rather expensive but to others maybe not, its 100 baht for 2 pieces of tandoori chicken...butter chicken 200 baht, naan around 20 to 80 baht and dahl is cheap etc so i dunno

if you are coming soon before the 24th acutally i can meet u in KL sentral most anytime, as i live in brickfields and my days are free, but for instance tomorrow im going to penang for the weekend and on the 24th i leave for cambodia..and right after that phuket for the month ;)

to make it easy u can ask the concierge at KL sentral how to get to YMCA, you dont have to stay htere but once your in that area of brickfields youll find alot of restaurants some good alot of them not so good, the ones i listed are very good...and there are plenty of good hotels where many foreigners stay and youll be easy access to your embassy

  7. kl isnt a shit city you just dont know shit about it "thailand"

im not quite sure where the thai embassy is though im pretty sure itd be on raja chulan where all the other ones are?

anyway, china town(pasar seni) sucks dont go or stay there, your better off staying in brickfields for close proximity to the monorail and LRT which both can take u to the embassy easily, also the hotels are cheap starting around 650 baht and if you like indian food try jassal or GEM

and i suggest brickfields cause its where everyone goes via KL Sentral after arriving in either the lcct or KLIA and will just make your trip very smooth and pleasant

  8. guys im almost certainly coming to phuket for 3 weeks, the daily rates ive been told right now are about 500 baht but for 3 weeks what kinda damage am i lookin at? id be happy with a clean fan room with a hot shower, and like topic says around cherngtalay area, although if anyone has any reccomendations for something cheap and nice let me know via pm or here

  9. hey guys im looking to pop into phuket for about a week in mid january, i live in kuala lumpur and i did a month this year on phuket and i had a great time. this time around im looking for anyone who can quote me with a decent place and price for a motorbike for a week or so and if anyone knows any decent guest houses, i dont need a pool and all this shit just ac and hot shower and relatively safe, not on beach etc i dont care bout that.

  10. im looking into several phones, the galaxy s 2 looks like the best but doesnt seem as durable as the new sensation, but everyone seems to complain about samsungs UI. anyway im not nearly that picky, im not a phone whore i really like these new smart phones but honestly besides looking cool and having fun things to do while im on a train or something i dont care to much about how crazy they are or arent

really im interested in the camera and the reception and ill be using pre paid

i should be in asia for another year or so and will look into plans here aswell but most are 2 years and im not gonna stay here that long. if i can get the desire HD for a good price i might just go with it cause it seems to be what i want, i honestly like the desire S better but the camera isnt as good, still very good cam but...the extra weight of the HD is no problem for me really

or i may just say fuc_k it and get the galaxy or the sensation or something i dunno

but again, yea i dont really care about internet speeds and all this shit, sure ill use internet at wifi locations but not gonna go outta my way to pay for it or anything, not at this point in my life anyhow.

  11. actually guys i got 1 more question. i might end up gettting a diff phone but i like the htc Desire HD alot but for band frequency it says;

    Europe:

    • HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
    • GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

    Asia Pacific:

    • HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
    • GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

got this from their site here; http://www.htc.com/sea/product/desirehd/specification.html

what i wanna know is as a GSM phone it says it supports all the frequencies but lists them under europe and asia, it doesnt say "quad band" like the sensation and desire s and samsung etc say. so will this phone work as a GSM phone in the U.S. or what?

  12. hey thanks guy i really appreciate the input, i did quite a bit of research today and i thought the responses would be as such. anyway i looked at the new galaxy s II today and it offers all of which i require, although its brand new so i may go after the htc desire s which is the latest version and the price may be a bit cheaper for about the same product although the galaxy is faster...

anyway bla bla bla thank you

  13. hey guys, several friends of mine have the HTC phones, one just bought the new HTC inspire HD. these phones are great, but im american and i plan on going back in a year or so. i live in malaysia(kuala lumpur) and ive done a few hours research and i believe the new HTC phones run on quad band frequencies meaning i should be able to use the phone in the U.S.

but im dont know. i also dont know about the sim cards available in the U.S. it seems from a quick search there are a few options like t mobile, boost mobile and att etc but i dont know they look like the same sims for my samsung i use here but i have no idea about this stuff

so basically this is my situation, i dont really care about super fast download speeds on the internet via my mobile phone but i do need to be able to talk and txt etc and if i buy a phone here for 4-6 USD id only do it if i can be sure i can use it here and there aswell

    any help is appreciated

..on a side note i just spent a month in phuket, had a great time, muay thai, beaches, food everything was sweet

  14. hey guys im just naming random thai islands ive heard of i have no idea, i know there are tons of islands surrounding phuket ive seen videos on youtube and shit i was just curious how much the ferrys or whatever cost to get there and back, if they are really worth going to etc

the remarks about the food are good thanks bro i appreciate it, gives me hope lol as im extremely cheap

the story about cops beating some guys ass well it does sound interesting but honestly im not worried about trouble, im not crazy, im intelligent and very cool in all situations and i dont really ever drink unless its on occasion or my gf wants to(getting her drunk gets me more dome so...)

anyway so far thanks for the info, keep it coming ill look into those islands

  15. Guys im going to phuket for a month im curious though i know there are alot of islands surrounding phuket, not like i wanna go to all of them but i dunno id like to go to some of em, "samui, phangan or whatever"..phi phi island my korean roommate tells me is good and theres tons more anyway i just wanna know how much it costs to go to these places from phuket

also if anyone knows off the top of their head how i can go about riding an elephant thatd be cool to but mostly the island thing im curious about

and how much is food in phuket? whats average USD for a meal?

  16. OK USD wise how much am i looking to spend for 2-3 weeks i can stay a Month i suppose at the most right now as i live in kuala lumpur and im visiting a friend in phuket

i dont need a breakfast buffet or any of this shit a pool i could careless. just AC and Clean nothing crazy

i dont know what part of phuket ill be around most i dont know if it matters i dunno how big it is and if motor bike can get me around fast or what but thats all i know so far

  17. im looking for a reasonably priced hotel or somewhere to stay for about 2 weeks not super cheap but relatively cheap in phuket near the beach on the beach or off whatever doesnt matter. what matters is AC works, the Price and Clean thats it

  18. im american, in a nutshell i came over here(kuala lumpur) with a rash and i also have sensitive skin and the other day i had to buy new soap..got some dove and it made a rash i had come over here with much worse, i was planning on seeing a doctor anyway but i need advice from anyone who knows a good doctor or dermatologist please

  19. lol, ill be practicing muay thai there, its cheaper and its just i dunno an adventure, after my stay there whether i stay the 90 days or later ill be going to thailand, and then cambo, probably spend more time in cambo as i dont really wanna go through any hassles with visas but who knows..

now back to the original subject, and "whybother" youve posted here enough to know plenty of these guys know about KL and malaysia..and singapore..and the surrounding countries..not only they you all talk about them, so whats the problem?

  20. hi guys, im going to kuala lumpur my flight leaves here(us via JFK) on the 14. ive been told when i get to KL ill take the bus to KL sentral where there are cheap hotels(confirm?)

from KL sentral im supposed to take the train to "asia jaya" where i can find some decent apartments im told around 200 a month(confirm?)

does anyone see any holes in this plan of mine ive never been to this place and im hoping all will be cool

  21. im heading to KL first, i know about where i can get an apartment. what im curious about though is i plan on spending alot of time in SE asia this year and ill basically be staying in apartments the whole time cause i cant afford hotels for months and months

i need to know what they require, i only planned on brining my drivers license(im american) my passport and my credit cards but id rather not pay for anything electronically

if i need more like my birth certificate or ss card for whatever reason or anything else id like to know
