  1. Live close to Borabue and go fishing regularly, local lakes and game fishing in Khon Kean for big cats (catch & release - farang competition usually 10+ people - Frenchman has caught 60kg & 80kg there). Snakeheads in Resevour down by Nah Chuck, give me a pm for answer to any questions and let us know when your up this way and we'll sort you out with a few trips. Usually have company of 2 or 3 other Farangs so the beer and conversation flows all day.

    Tight lines

  2. What a great day it was again, fun, food, beer and lots of fish caught. Thanks to DeeDee for organising this at his own cost and best of all meeting a great bunch of people from Europe and USA. Can't wait for the next get together and hopefully get my hands on one of those trophies. My only downside was being wiped out by all the thai girls/wives out-casting and out-catching me, still get my own back next time.

  3. I have the TomTom app on my iphone 4 with Thailand map and as a stand alone phone app it works ok although a little slow which would be no problem when walking but not good enough for driving. Having said that I did by the TomTom car kit for the iphone before comming out here and used it for a journey down south with great results, fast signal lock and faultless directions, no problems with tinted glass in the vehicle. Bought Isuzu with fitted navman system and I think although good the tomtom was better for ease of use. Car kit for sale in the classified ads as have no use for it.

  4. Hi,

I am married to a Thai national and needed some dental work carried out so I contacted the Khon Kaen Faculty of Dentistry and registered with them for planned dental treatment which includes extractions, implants and plates. Have had 2 visits with 7 x-rays taken and 3 extractions, next visit for gum treatment followed by Orthidontist for reconstructive work. Costs so far have been for the x-rays and extractions total 2400 baht. Service has been great and care to a high standard. Wednesday evening at 5pm is the open clinic time at the Dental Clinic in the uni grounds ( map on website), you can register then and be seen that night.

Check out their website http://www.dentistry.kku.ac.th/EngDent/ cost to me is higher than a thai national but not as much as private dental clinics. Thai nationals if referred by their local hospitals get free treatment otherwise there is a cost for them but not as much as farangs.

So for any farangs out there in the Isan area with dental issues you can check out the services of KKU. Can't help with the prescription glasses though.

Hope this helps for anyone in need of Dental

  5. Yes this still happens. We usually meet the last Saturday of the month at one of the guys houses.

It's funny you posted this as we have been talking about trying to see if there are any new guys in the area that might be interested.

PM me if you would like more details, good bunch of guys, several teachers.

    Regards

I am also fairly new to the area and live in a villiage (Nong Daeng) south of Burabue and would be interested in meeting up with fellow English speaking farangs just to exchange experiences and life in Thailand. So if you guys are planning another get together i'd be interested. Kind regards

  6. Did you find a tom tom car kit for your iphone? I brought one in from England in Jan11 and used it to go to a friends wedding in Chantaburi province with my iphone 4 and TomTom app, the signal was perfect and fast responce because of the built in GPS. Also has bluetooth facility for hand free phone calls. Alas I bought an new Isuzu with Satnav already in so the car kit is surplus to requirements. If you or any other member is interested in the kit then it's available now, I am in Mahasarakham province.

  7. I am finding this thread very informative as I am planning to return to LOS with my Thai wife and intend to apply for a retirement extension to my type O visa. My dilema is when to apply for the retirement extention and what to do about a police access report. If I leave my application till the last 3 months of the O visa then will I be required to get a UK police access report or can I alternatively get a Thai police clearance? I thought my question would be of interest to others reading this thread so I hope you don't mind my contribution.
