  1. The lucky number 9.

I would say his aim is to force a clash with the reds, the idiot should have maintained his original date to avoid violence. He surely knows that the reds will be pissed off over the Yingluk case and this is just like taking a dump in some ones kitchen sink. He wants full on violence and knows he is going to get it.

I think the move is more to keep his lot mobilized during the NACC decision/verdict due today.

  2. Just another Shin fanboy to remove from office... PTP keep rolling them out, and the courts will keep taking them down.

3 Shin's have been removed in recent history... Another one won't matter

  3. If neither side agree to an election or a referendum, then the only option is a Coup of some sort, and that's not going to sit well for the losing side, and the rift and divide between the minority, and yes, it still is a minority as everyone is too scared to take a leap of faith and let the electorate speak, and the Majority will never be healed.

I agree with your point... i do wonder how the country will get itself out of this mess...

  4. " Soldiers have the duty to protect the people, as well as all independent organizations. He urged all sides to have faith and trust on the judicial system. "

This is the key. These are Prayuth's priorities, and if the UDD bring violence to the scene and go after the NACC, Prayuth will have to act. Prayuth is really boxed in a corner to a degree that must now be considered unprecedented. His announcement for peaceful rallies has already been met with the UDD attack on the army checkpoint guarding the NACC, with the result of it being dismantled. His appeal to go after the secessionist movement under Ko Tee has been filed with the very agencies that have no vested interest in prosecuting him - Chalerm at the CMPO, and the police. Prayuth also states that he needs permission from the CMPO for an increased army presence in the city. As Chalerm and Thaksin's cousin control that, that in itself is beyond surreal. Surapong's objectives are not the same as Prayuth's. Surapong is not interested in the protection of the independent agencies and he is not interested in respecting judicial rulings. As the UDD was successful in dismantling the NACC's military checkpoint security, a very clear line has been crossed, and a dangerous precedent has been set. On Saturday, there will be large rallies in Bangkok from the PDRC and the UDD, for the first time in years. Thaksin seems to have given the UDD the green light. He has Yingluck and Surapong " studying " the Constitutional Court's ruling and shaking their heads, as well as having Surapong appealing to the UN to admonish the Constitutional Court and the independent agencies, which in itself is jaw-dropping. In other words, the narrative of Pheu Thai has now become almost indistinguishable from that of the UDD.

extremley biased interpretation of a highly convoluted issue and impending day in the sun. Although I often agree with you that the Thai Media loses a lot in translation (generous) and probably mis-represents 25% or better of what actually is said.. it is good fodder for the partisans ever present here to apply their spin "as they see it" which is our/your right but I am forever amazed at the simplistic unrealistic shortminded terms you choose to interpret with... I think we all know the players by now and who represents what both in Thai Politics and here in TV... but never cease to be amused at Lord Fauntleroy deigning his "take" on what people can interpret for themselves.. better entertainment than the Thai soaps though...sheesh! Thanks for making me laugh ! Again!

You realize that TVF *IS* the Daily Thai Soap for most of us, right? :D

  5. No! Why does NIDA keep repeating these kinds of misleading statements? It is a majority of those 1,255 people who were POLLED by NIDA or about 658 people who wanted to see national reform first. That hardly compares to the 49 million eligible voters! If Thailand, by whatever unelected committee(s) is/are going to make sweeping reform policy based on less than 0.001% of the eligible voters, reforms will never be accepted in a democratic society. And maybe that is the justification for the formation of a dictatorship.

Use of national referendums have been very useful tools by many democratic countries for gauging and gaining public support for major changes to constitutions, laws, and government administrative procedures. Why aren't referendums being used to gauge public intent? The problem for the PDRC is that in a referendum vote it would be held accountable to the general public to explain its opposition to populist policies, to one-man one vote democracy, to unelected public officials, etc. and I don't think it can stand up to that kind of transparency while it condemns the current administration for lack of transparency.

So the same sceptisim should be used for all polls favouring the Red side of the political divide.

I agree, national referendum on 'how to' move forward is needed, but probably wont happen as PTP dont want the whole country to speak

Yes and that's a major part of the problem.

Contrary to what some posters (who should know better) have said here, Suthep has advocated a number of reforms that enhance democracy and decentralisation of power. But because they have come from Suthep - who is portrayed anything from Mussolini to Genghis Khan - they are deemed unacceptable.

The first step is for Yingluck to accept - without any iffs or buts - that reform is needed. The second step is for YL & Suthep to discuss the formation of a reform council/committee/commission. Parallel to the second step is organising a referendum, asking the population do they want reform first, election first or both in parallel.

The organisation to carry out reforms can be formed along the lines of the 1997 constitution-writing group.

Sounds good, but sadly i cant see either side agreeing to that.

  6. I was just doing a financial work up on opening a processing facility for our Co in Cambodia, the shock caused me to look at Thailand again; to land and clear a 20 ft container at Sihanoukville costs $1,200.00 approx MORE, than to land & clear the same 20 ft container at Laem Chabang - the main Port between Bangkok & Pattaya.

The add on document costs are ludicrous $350.00 USD each box for Customs Clearance, the same $350.00 for Tax Evaluation at the same Customs House - a $15.00 Customs processing fee for each box, a surcharge of $300.00 for each box; it goes on & on.

I remain amazed at how focused some folks can get in times of opportunity !

Needless to say, my work in Cambodia is done - back to Thailand, and the deals being offered by the Thai Govt Investment Board are excellent - very professional response - Chalk & Cheese.

As long as your happy to pay the back-handers to the Thai Customs division, then go for it! Very little leaves the Customs depot without some money changing hands under the table, i know this from friends who import stuff for their business and my own attempts to import stuff for myself.

On paper, Thailand might be cheaper, in reality it might not be so clear-cut... If you havent already factored this into your analysis, i'd suggest looking again my friend.

  8. "the army chief said any increase in security checkpoints and troops in the capital depended on the situation, and permission had to be sought from the Center for Maintaining Peace and Order"

"He cited example of the Army filing charges against redshirt hardcore leader Ko Tee, saying now the case is being handled by the police."

And we all know who is controlling the Center for Maintaining Peace and Order.

    and the police...

... expect a huge amount of 'nothing' to happen with these cases in the up coming days/weeks

  9. I love the way they have to have name cards for a cabinet meeting. You'd think they'd at least know each other by now.

It changes every other week... Yingluck has to cycle them all through cabinet positions to repay them for their support.

Wasnt it Yingluck who was bleating on about not using the laws against them recently.. few weeks ago, wasnt it? Guess what she really meant was "We will use every law, court or method possible to disable our opposition, but please dont use the law against us!"

Sooner she and her lackey's are hauled off in chains, the better.

  10. Because Suthep has been the only one holding the entire country to ransom screaming and shouting about reforms..

Hasnt there been a number of public debates (hosted by the PDRC lot) to garner and discuss what reforms are needed? I remember stuff like decentalized government etc

Seems to me, Suthep isnt driving the actual reforms forward, just the *need* for reforms.

  11. ”Mr. Surapong reassured that the Premier would keep on fighting for democracy, saying without it, the international community would not recognize Thailand as a stabilized nation.” What kind of democracy would he be referring to would it be the interpretation of democracy by the excising government! or would it be the interpretation of true democracy?

No, the Democracy where they ignore court rulings they dont like and use government agencies to threaten and intimidate anyone they feel is against them.

  12. I'm curious why Thai Visa will not pull any articles out of the Bangkok Post. It's a far better source of news. I guess if that happened there wouldn't be anything for people to whine about.

Its a copyright/permission thing. BP dont 'allow' Thaivisa to post their stories.

  13. Smart man Abhisit. Distancing himself from the conflict and presenting the voice of reason happy in the knowledge that Yingluck couldn't tell you the 2 sides of a coin and that Suthep can talk for days

Abhisit might be smart, but after boycotting the last election and threatening to do the same at the next one, the man has no credibility. He is nothing more than Suthep's lap dog answering to his master's voice. This is nothing more than a publicity stunt by the marginalised leader of a marginalised and increasingly irrelevant party.

If he wanted to make a serious contribution, he could start by confirming that his party will contest the next election and set out policies that benefit the whole country, not just the Democrats tradition supporters.

    Indeed.

Here is a suggested set of policies that he could follow:

Pay the rice farmers massively over the market price, keep the rice rotting in wareshouses and allow costs and corruption to run up to approaching a trillion baht

Promise to get all students a Samsung Galaxy Tab and instead buy some of useless device for tuppence hapeny that is useless and dies after a couple of days

Promise to increase the minimum salary and then do nothing to police it whilst permitting inflation to run amok

Promise to pay graduates a minimum salary of 15,000B and quietly permit that to die a death

Promise to reconcile the country and bring in an act under incredible subterfuge that does nothing of the sort and in fact divides the country even further

Cheat and lie at every oportunity whilst bringing in acts of law that benefit the family

When under fire put on false tears and wear false bandages whilst in false wheelchairs

    That should do it

    You forgot the following;

    * Run and hide in your political stronghold under the guise of visiting OTOP markets whilst the country burns around you

    * Intimidate and threaten the very organisation that is charged with running an election, even when they strongly advise against the proposed election date

    * Threaten and intimidate the courts of the land when they do not rule in your favour

    * Fire civil servents that do not have the same political outlook as you, then bitch and moan when the court forces you to reinstate them

  14. She does not need to talk to Suthep, he is not running for election, Abhisit may be so he should be the one if there is a TV show.

But she really does not need to talk to an almost ex leader of the opposition either.

Fine, let Abhisit do it then...

... we both know that there is no way Yingluck will allow herself to go live on a televised debate, she will be laughed off stage and that will put an end to her career.
