What do you mean by quiet? Night Life, no beer bars, lack of overt bar girls all over the place. How about the noise of motorcylces roaring around, loud falangs from europe as well as the few from the USA.
It is possible that most of the condos are owned by rich Thai people who come very seldomly and possibly avoid high season totally.
So some explain the 'Quiet' in this 'thread'.
Maybe because the King is often here but totally at one end of the town. Don't wish for overexpansion or it will be another Pattaya and filthy beaches and increased costs due to having to clean up.
Plenty of computers around, plus reasonable connection with ADSL at TOT, not spectacular service but good for most users.
Enjoy the relative peace, if you want excitement go to Bangkok.

Had an electric bicycle as well as motorcycle. Both did not last long and amount of travel distance very short. Do not recommend until new battery technology appears. Hua Hin pretty OK for regular bike if you are Thai size person, if tall, bikes are too small for comfort. Treb

They just realized this. Never ceases to amaze, like restricting buying any kind of alcohol or closing the gas stations. Who thinks up these things. Treb

Thanks for information---am not living there as yet, In Chiang Mai we report every 90 days on non-imm O visa. Will find it when I get there sometime in October. Treb

Heard Immigration has an office in Hua Hin but still training staff. Would eliminate going to Bangkok for visa renewals (non-immigrant O) and residence registry every 90 days. Anyone with good information. Last heard was in October, same as for Tesco Lotus. In time for influx of tourists hopefully. Treb

Does anyone have any clout with the government to find out about policy, say 'this organization', Bangkok Post, or other.
It seems evident that the government (or some people in it) do not like the 'visa run' group of ex-pats. Seems the Thai Government should lower the age for retirement visas and just make all these people prove their incomes and/or fixed accounts. The Government would certainly make out financially and stop the confusion on welcoming 'tourists'.
