  1. This is a weird topic. If u got it flaunt it. I too agree it's better to be in air-con car-quiet access to cell phone and complete some work or home projects.

I drive a Lexus FSports 460AWD here in New York - a head turner - I am not rich but comfortable and at the age where I want to drive a better class of car.

I would not drive though if I had access to SKYTRAIN. I could not afford that car in Thailand as it's probably a 6 Million baht car, here it is 2.7 Million.

  2. He wouldnt be worried about entry in Thailand, they may not even let him on the plane on the other end.

As regards leniency, it all depends on were his is getting on the plane...it up to them, however if they let him on and they will not let him in Thailand then the cost of repatriation and possibly a fine are on the airline as they never followed the rules

Had occassion to see the 6 month validity issue in action in Thailand, were Mrs Soutpeel was travelling with me to Malaysia and they stated Mrs Soutpeel did not have 6 months on her PP and would not all her to check-in.....however it turned out the lady behind the counter couldnt count and in fact she had 7 months left on her PP when I worked it out....

So yes they do enforce it

I HAVE A GOOD CONTACT AT TCEB AND WILL ASK QUESTION, WILL GET ANSWER OVERNIGHT (HOPEFULLY)..............

I have had resply from Thai Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) HQ in BKK and they called their Immigration buddies and they confirm that there should be NO problem in arriving at BKK with a passport scenario of nearly 6 months left on your current passport. Thats pretty solid feedback as I have dealt with TCEB for some time and the person I go to is very high up in the Thai organization., Good Luck. Regards Roy

  3. I have added 50 cms of top soil above road level on my 40Mt x 70Mt piece of land in Sae Kaeo region.

Now I am being told that I should add 1 Mt top soil to area where single level bungalow / villa will be built rather than use 100% concrete.

Reason I say this is because we will have 3 step up from ground to porch and therefore need it raised. Any ideas? How long does one wait for ground settling? I placed 50cms of new soil 2 months ago and in no rush to build until appropriate settlement time given.

FYI, I used 1,400 CBM to raise whole 40x70MT land site 50cms above road level and it cost USD6000.00,

The 2 MT wall all around cost $6000.

The stainless steel fence for the 40MT front (+1 Mt section down right and left side)+ 5 MT sliding gate and 1 Mt side gate will cost me $9000.00.

I am color concrete paving on an angle, for rain run off, from the front of the fence/wall 2.5 MT (The front wall is 40 Mt less gates) with stamping for 75,000 Baht ($2,200.00)

This for your information as information is good to be shared.

    Thanks. Roy

  5. Not for nothing but Pattaya is a awful city to visit and certainly lives up to the Thai nickname for it of "The Dead City". Thailand is a wonderful place and Pattaya was no angel 30 years ago when I first visited but on subsequent trips to that city? It is where many low life seem to find each other. Not everyone is tainted with same brush (I need to make that comment) but for the most part I know I am accurate.

  6. UPDATE ON PROJECTED COSTS.

    (4) Single story home - approx 180 sq mts-200 sq mt/ 1900-2200 sq ft with excuding appliance/cupboard upgrades etc, with wrap around porch 75% around home. - UPDATE/BASED ON -AVERAGE QUALITY BATHROOM/KITCH/ ETC USD 55,000.00 FOR 2000 SQ FT RANCH/BUNGALOW - BUILT IN ISAAN.

    (5) Guidance on the "weak" spots of he typical local Thai builder .i.e. Electric code of Western world not followed...UPDATE; COLLECTING INFO

    - update: I AM GOING TO ASSUME KITCHE/BATHROOM UPGRADES TO ADD USD 10,000.00/300,000 BT TO PROJECT. BUT TOTAL THUS FAR EQUATES TO 2.4 MILLION BT. OR APPROX USD 80,000.00

Any guidance on same would be very much appreciated.

  7. Domestic solar energy projects only makes sense when governments subsidize the installation as part of an overall energy policy.

100% correct - if one gets a sunsidy, then it MAY be worth it. Otherwise not. In Thailand anyway. Europe/USA - sunny environments, maybe yes, as electric is BIG $$$$$$. I pay 14,000 baht a month n USA -each month across the year average.
