  1. Hello...

I am flying into the Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport from Chiang Mai on Friday morning, arriving at 8:25 AM. I need to get from there to the Cambodian border crossing at Poipet as soon as possible that morning. I am wondering what mini-bus or other services are available? Is there anything directly from the airport or do I need to go to Khao San Road or somewhere else? I remember that it is about a 2.5 hour trip from Khao San road but what would you recommend in my position? Thanks for any tips or details! Please feel free to PM me if you prefer.

  2. Hello...

I am in need of some major dental work and I am wondering if anyone is familiar with Darade Dental Clinic near Chiang Mai Gate, about 50 meters closer to Chiang Mai Gate than Smith Residence on the same street, right across the street from the big motorbike shop.

I had a consultation with the dentist today who seemed pretty solid but wanted to get some opinions of people on the forum.

I am wondering also if I will get charged extra as a farang.... hate that.

I am thinking of getting a second opinion regardless and wonder if anyone has any suggestions in the area.

    Thanks for any help!

  3. I believe that many travel agents in Cambodia can now get you a double entry tourist visa, and will send your passport to PP.

I just used Ana Travel in Sihanoukville ($15, back in 4 days; $25, back in 2 days).

When you guys did this, were you at all concerned that you wouldn't get your passport back or they would try to extort money from you or something like that?

    Sounds risky....

  4. Hello...

I am wondering if anyone has experience doing this (no, I don't mean on a motorbike). I know it will be difficult but am wondering if there is anyone on this forum who has done it and can offer me suggestions. I am planning on doing it in 2 days and taking a bus back.

    Thanks...

  6. Hello...

I am on a single entry tourist visa that is going to expire soon. A friend from Bangkok wants to go to Cambodia and I thought the trip could coincide with my getting a new visa to get back into Thailand. Could someone please tell me the best options there and where to go? Is it possible to get two double entry visas? Or would I be stuck with just a 1 single entry then renew for 30 days more? Or even worse? And where should I go in Cambodia?

    Thanks for any help!

  7. Hello...

I am looking for a personal trainer in CM; I live near Chiang Mai Gate and would like the person to come to me (there is a gym right next to where I live). I would cover entrance fees to the gym plus pay the person a fair honorarium to be agreed upon. I would want the trainer to speak some English, although only a basic-intermediate level is really necessary to be able to show me the machines. I am looking to get stronger and more lean and would want the person to walk me through the machines, design exercises for me, chart my progress, and keep me motivated. The trainer could be a student or someone looking to work a few odd hours a week who has experience. Can anyone recommend a trainer for me? Just to be clear, I am not looking for a trainer in a gym like California Wow; the person would need to come to me.

    Thanks for any help.

  8. Hello...

I'm new in Thailand, don't speak any Thai yet, and am trying to lose the 10 pounds I gained since moving here six weeks ago!! Now I am working on eating healthier. I see some of you folks calling "Yums" healthy but I don't know what a Yum is. Is this what people call Sum Tum, papaya salad, etc? Thanks...

  9. S.K. Moneychanger has the best rates in CM. I don't have the address right now, but it is googable.

Yep - can't argue with that. Their contact details are:

    Sakol Shop S.K. Limited Partnership

    73/8 Charoen Prathet Road

    Chiang Mai 50100

    Tel: 053 818118

Of the banks, Bangkok Bank (the blue one) gives the best rate, and they're everywhere, but I always take the trouble to go to S.K. now when I have large amounts to change.

You can find S.K. not too far from the night bazaar. It's on Charoen Prathet Road a stones throw away from the Guitar Man pub, pretty much opposite the Rasta(?) Bar. Basically coming from the night bazaar along Loi Khro Road, past Guitar Man on the left, where Loi Khro crosses Charoen Prathet Road turn left onto Charoen Prathet Road and it's immediately on your right.

S.K. say you get a (slightly) better rate in the morning, so it's worth going then.

Does Sakol Shop S.K. Limited Partnership also give the best rate for Euros?

    Thanks...

  10. Hi David. Welcome to Chiang Mai. I might suggest starting with your own personal interests. Are you into motorcycles, movies, quiz nights, treks, etc? There are groups around twon for all of these things and more. There are activities for those of us not fond of the bar scene. Narrow your search and I am sure you will find friends..cheers, Sam

I understand where you coming from, I'm new here too from Boston and don't hang in bars and am not of the age to just sit!. The suggestion on your interests is a good one and maybe ppl. on this forum can then suggest something. I like biking, and eating and cooking, exploring the markets and restaurants and art and cultural stuff. If you want to do something (I have an extra bike) sometime just leave me a message here.

    Hey junglechef...

I like bars too but haven't found what I'm looking for yet in terms of nightlife... not exactly into ladies of the night if you get my drift.

A bike ride this weekend would rock, let's do it. I'lll send you a PM.

    Sam,

Thanks for the great ideas. How do I learn more about the trekking groups? I'm a long distance backpacker and would love to get into hiking here.

Also movies and quiz nights are up my alley. How would I get connected?

  12. Hello All...

I just moved to Chiang Mai and am looking to meet new people and make new friends. I'm 29 years old from NYC. I'll be here at least three months and am really enjoying it so far!

I am wondering some good places and good things to do, other than bars? Where have you gone? So far I have been enjoying the European Union Movie Festival and walking around.

    Best,

    David
