  1. Just a small update to this topic.

The prices quoted in the first post are way out of date now, I was quoted 100,000bt for the mini facelift at Phyathai Hospital.

But I have just come back from visiting them and having some work done and all I can say is that they're excellent there. Staff are friendly and very helpful and I would recommend to anyone a visit there if you are considering this type of work anytime soon.

Chances are he is spending as much on beer/liquor and other things in an effort to dull the pain and feel better as a couple of counselling sessions a month would cost him. And some of these places have sliding scale fees according to income.

Ultimately he has to decide if he wants go feel better and find a way out of this emotional mess or not.

No, he goes out maybe once or twice a week to a local bar, he's not a big drinker at all, 2-3 beers and he's had enough

I have bipolar disorder (type 2). Severe depression which can last for months.

ECT (electro convulsive therapy) seems to do the job.

It is socially misunderstood & thus frowned upon.

You can watch videos on it.

Just read up on this, where do you have it done ? Thailand or your home country ?

  4. A friend of mine is suffering from what seems like serious depression. He's 56 years old and has been in a couple of toxic relationships here in the last 2-3 years. He is running short of money now as well.

I met him this morning and he told me that he felt he was going crazy, he's not sleeping well, he thinks he's having some sort of panic attacks every now and again.

Last night and this morning he was in tears about everything and he just doesn't know which way to turn and yes he is getting to the point of being suicidal.

I told him that mental health treatment at Bangkok Pattaya hospital is available but he has basically said that he doesn't trust Thai doctors as they just like to dish out pills without finding the cure.

I suggested heading back to the UK but as he said he has no family there and nothing to go back too. He has also near enough spent all of his money and says he could just about get the air fare back there but after that he'd be homeless.

My question is could the British Embassy help in any way at all by arranging treatment or something in the UK for him ? A long shot I know but I do worry that maybe he's going to get worse.

  5. Just a bit of an update here that may help other people in the future ?

I sent an email to the British Embassy with a couple of questions regarding this. They have just called me with these answers which surprised me.

Even though I have lived here for the last 6 years non-stop they have told me to put a UK address on the form, also to put my witnesses as UK residents too.

She also told me that my girlfriends address can be either the one on her house paper ( which I will go with ) or where she is staying now.

Maybe this will help someone in the future ?

  6. I can assure you that is the correct example of what the British Embassy use. I speak from experience - I used that exact example myself in February of this year with no problems at all.

    It is downloadable here:

    https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/information-for-british-nationals-intending-to-marry-in-thailand

The person you talked to either had no idea at all or they had a financial interest in telling you otherwise, or both.

All you have to do is retype the example in the same format using only a single side of one A4 sheet of paper. Obviously change the details to suit, and make sure you do not include the word "specimen" in the background.

Don't get too hung up about this. An affidavit is anything that starts with, "I, Joe Bloggs, do solemnly and sincerely affirm as follows:"

and ends with, "Signed at...." with the date, signature, and, "Before me".

Anything truthful can be in the middle.

If you do get something wrong it's not the end of the world. The Embassy staff will explain what needs changing and they won't charge you.

If you have an early appointment and you have emailed the completed document to yourself you can use one of the visa agencies across the road to correct and reprint the document for a small fee and go back before 11.30am the same day.

Thank you very much for your help, I think where you wrote "The person you talked to either had no idea at all or they had a financial interest in telling you otherwise, or both." is right, he wanted me to use his services for a decent sized fee.

I feel a lot better now, thanks again, I do appreciate your help.

  7. It just gets better and better.

Here is a copy of the form downloaded from the British Embassy Website.

I took it to a big visa shop run by a farang today and showed him, he said it's not the one they use ? But yesterday another shop said it was the correct one ?

I've tried phoning the Embassy to ask them, automated message at 10.15 said they were closed, I've sent them an email and they replied they'd get back to me, usually within 20 days ?

I really don't know which way to turn now as I'm getting different answers from all sides !

  8. Ok, I hate to ask this but I've been searching everywhere and I cannot get a definite answer.

I am a never married Englishman living in Thailand permanently on a Retirement Visa.

I am planning on getting married and after a long time searching I still cannot find this in a downloadable form "Affirmation of marital status" .I have found it on the Thai British Embassy website but both copies have specimen watermarked through them.

I can download the Affidavit and Affirmation forms without a problem but the "Affirmation of marital status" download just refuses to be found.

    Please, can anyone help ?

  9. My Nouvo SX has started flashing up an error code "Er_1". The bike has 4,000km on the clock and is just over a year old.

If I switch on the ignition and wait 10 seconds it starts flashing that code, also the engine light and temp gauge are flashing. The bike starts no problem but still flashes up the error code.

I thought it may be water level but I've checked that and it's fine.

I've googled it and nothing comes up, I know I should take it to a Yamaha garage but as it's Sunday there's none open and I don't want to take it to the local Somchai for obvious reasons.

Anyone had this happen to them and knows what it is ?

  10. Have a look at this thread, seems like some good info on it http://www.thaivisa....4610-honda-pcx/

Many thanks for your prompt reply.

I have already read this thread and I agree it is very informative. In fact, this is what prompted me to look outside of Pattaya to make my purchase.

Unfortunately, what the thread doesn't offer is any information regarding the dealer's names, addresses or telephone numbers which is really frustrating.

Ok here's another idea, if you know someone who has a Honda ask if you can look at their service book. I seem to remember there's a load of pages of dealers names, numbers and address's in them, you'd need a Thai to translate though.

  11. When I bought my PCX it was pearl white with brown trim. Six months later, I had Mityon in Pattaya change all of the body plastic and seat to red and black. They did a superb job, 1 day service, for B6,000. It looks like it came from the factory red and black. Buy where you can get the cheapest price and have it serviced at the shop close and convenient for you.

May I ask if you had to change the Green Book when you changed the colour and if so what did that involve ?

  12. Canterbury Tales Cafe as well as the Chow Soy in the same area, both very good for less than 100baht for a full English all day breakfast.

Uncooked eggs, bacon that looks like it's been shown to the frying pan and not actually cooked, sausage not bad, beans that may or may not be warm, a piece of bread that may or may not have been properly toasted, some orange cordial pretending to be orange juice, home made brown sauce and no Daily newspapers as advertised on the website. All for under 100bt

Chow Soy's good though as is 18 Coins just around the corner, Billabong does a half decent breakfast and the Golf Club on LK Metro has a very varied breakfast menu that is really good. The Ritz on Soi Yamoto is excellent as is The Sportsmens on Soi 13.Little Wonder Cafe near Soi Diana is excellent as well.

  13. For an English style brekky Chow soy will take some beating. Canterbury Tales cafe used to be the best in Patts but has gone downhill The last year or two. . I wish there was a good place near my house in Korat . I do miss a good brekky sinced i moved here from Pattaya.

Agree about the canterbury tales going downhill but it was never the best in town.Although I'm sure "Danio" (boss of c.t.) will be on in a bit to bull the place up !

Little Wonder Cafe does a great breakfast.
