  1. I think many scientists around the world are trying to understand how/why Thailand has not hD it's own pandemic a long time ago.

people said because if the heat bit then why did Singapore explode but not Thailand and also why now is Thailand finally becoming an epicenter even though it's getting hotter everyday.

I guess we'll find out one day but would be good to know why, now.

Could it be the normal heavy use of N95 masks for pollution that has stemmed the pandemic here?

    Interested in other people's ideas.

  2. I think Thailand has been lucky son far. I think it's very little to do with being efficient at dealing with this situation.

It could have easily gone the other way.

    Seriously lucky actually.

If China had not closed its own borders and Thailand had not closed its borders (and offered free visas as they did) to China, we would be in the same situation as them now.

    Pure luck.

Because, if the chairman of the Anti-corruption and Misconduct committee was found to be corrupt, then Thailand would be a laughing stock AGAIN !  ????????????????

don't suppose you remember about 18 years ago the whole anti corruption committee were convicted for fraud of some sort but the judge then said let's not darken their years of good service to the country and let them all go! ????

    never ending cycle

  4. what a <deleted> liar! I have friends there who say lots of factories are cutting back on production.

Some good news is they are trying not to lay people off by reducing days to 3 or 4 so that at least all staff have some income to pay bills.

But for sure they are really feeling the pinch.

Another Friend has not been paid 13,000,000 baht from a major company there siting economic woes. He is being paid back in monthly installments. It has severely cripilled his company and also all his suppliers.

This must just be the tip of the iceberg. I'm sure there's a lot more going on (unless I know everything already!????)

  5. I'm not quite sure why that bridge is restricted when there is another one right next to it that is not. It is only a few hundred meters long and is an overpass for Pridi Panomyong road.

But does have an S~bend in it and the road in that part is like corrugated iron! If a bike hit it at speed it would go flying!

There are a few deaths a year on this bridge so I guess that is why they ban motorcycles. I guess it's easier than fixing it?

The speed limit on it is 50km/hr.

Another thing you find on it almost nightly is trash. I mean big bags of trash! People use it as a dumping ground. He could have hit a bag or liquid from the trash bags along there.

  6. Last year a new labor law said that people here legally under existing work permits can volunteer without amending their work permit that was required in the past.

apart from that I have no other knowledge about other amendments but believe there were others. It should be on a thread here somewhere...

  7. agree with above.

More requirements, including teaching licenses or studying for teaching licenses but same salaries as when I came here 20 years ago.

    Schools can go either way:

    1. They can hire new teachers to Thailand who can get 2~4 year waivers with no experience

    Or

    2. Take care of their existing teachers with decent salary increases and have teachers with lots of experience and commitment.

But you can probably guess which one most schools on a budget will choose ????

Stupid!!... ALL traffic should hover around the same speed. Its the difference in speed that creates a lot of accidents. Scooters are slow and cars are fast so most people carelessly feel comfortable pulling to the right then darting through lanes to a U-turn spot being an example. I would never do that. Its suicide. If you cant travel the speed of the traffic you shouldn't be on the road. I say better faster bikes and no stupid old careless ladies should be allowed to ride and the same for any stupid teen that likes to take mirrors off and such.

Scooters in Thailand are not seen as vehicles by it users and more like a way to haul a fat ass around super slow with nothing much to do instead of walking. Think about it!

exactly! That was my very first thought, I often see cars very impatient behind motorcycles because they are not going fast enough riding 6 inch away from their bumper. What a crazy idea.

  9. I have a Prius Hybrid and a PCX. I use the Prius once a month maybe! Otherwise I can't be bothered driving in Bangkok! I'd rather get somewhere in 5 minutes than 45 minutes but Thais seemed quite content to sit in a air-con car for an hour or more.

But then again if I had kids I would probably bite the bullet and always use the car for safety reasons.

My girlfriend drives a Mercedes Benz but when she comes to visit me we often ride on the PCX so she doesn't seem to care.

Sometimes if we are going out all dressed up then we will take a taxi. I just really hate driving a car in Bangkok! ????

It's an interesting question but I suspect, as others have already, that it is considered more loso to ride a motorcycle.

At the end of the day I don't really care what people think as long as I get to where I'm going on time! ????

"Ambulances" or "body snatchers" most are the later. big difference to the west yet many like to consider them in the same light as their "home" country ????

    You are wrong.

Ambulances and coroners vehicles are very different.

There is no such thing as a Body Snatcher. There are paid personnel (coroners) who do the work although they are private organizations who register with the police.

It is illegal for a rescue worker to touch a dead body (unless checking to see if they are actually dead or not). Rescue workers/ems staff may "assist" coroners only after police are on scene and a government doctor has examined the body. This takes from 1~3 hours.

It is illegal for EMS staff/volunteers to drive fast to the scene of a suspected death.

Ambulances and rescue vehicles are not permitted to carry dead bodies unless requested by government authorities in extreme situations such as Tsunami.

99% of rescue workers are trained "first responders" (some are even doctors who volunteer in their free time). Less than 1% of volunteers are dedicated to assisting police/coroners in the transportation, fingerprinting, and photographing of the deceased.
