  1. It is reasonably common for same-sex staff to room together in Thailand when traveling, although I think she would have been made aware of it prior the trip.

too true, wife's sister is a teacher, since her uni days and forward, who she sharing rooms with on trips, was always topic.

  2. glib comment first, feed him minced meat.

serious question, is there a proper thai native animal rehab/refuge?

glib comment 2, take poor little fella to phuket/pattaya get idiot tourists to pay for photos with him.

onya your mrs for helping him.

  3. i know a bloke up country, not short for money, has a live in housekeeper.

he has been back to the uk to organise for his time to go to a home, staged care, as his health changes, so does his accommadation.

reckons that twenty years of living thai is about up.

golf, lawn bowls, will be it, no more a quick cuddle with the girls at his local farang bar.

he is 76, he has worked out his needs.

  4. all praise to the foxes.

  6. i used a farang guy named king i think. It cost 28,000 baht in pattaya we just give them some paperwork and it was done in 10 days loved it. there are agents everywhere but try to get a well known one

28K to fill out a bit of paper work. Wanna buy some shares in the Sydney Harbour Bridge while your there?

note to oneself, avoid any bloke called king from pattaya.

to the poster read the forum, good info from many who have walked the treadmill.

  7. sailors, crooks, ladies of doubtful morals, yes 20 years ago, that sorted it.

now it is sailors, crooks, ladies of a certain type, hipsters, sports people, trendy girls.

older farang walking around with a young tattooed country girl, speaking pattaya\patong creole, i think other thais would think not the best.

hip girl, walking around with a well dressed farang, speaking together in correct thai or english, a lot of people would think cool couple.

it is all in the presentation.

  8. history channel, the great visual aid, for ww1 and ww2 explainers to those who were never taught at school.

nazis have a meaning when the horrors of their agenda is shown on tv

a series of interviews done by bbc on ww1 veterans, chilling viewing.

'what the somme'? here is some google photos wifey

'they fix his face' so good

on viewing a show on nangking, japanese do that?

not her fault she was never taught it at school.

  9. No WW2 is not taught in Thai history lessons. The Thai collaboration with the Japanese and the Thai invasions of Cambodia, Malaya and Burma with Japanese encouragement to regain territory taken by the Brits and the French seem too complicated to explain and it is easier to omit them. They seem to just teach about King Ramkhamhaeng, the wars against the Burmese and the founding of Chakri dynasty dynasty. Some of it doesn't seem to be verifiable and may be mythological. A Chula history professor was ousted as president of the Siam Society for writing a paper suggesting that King Ramkhamhaeng never existed and the stone is a 19th century forgery (Western scholars agree with the latter point). Nothing much is taught about the history of Thai politics in the 20th century and the minimal amount that is seems largely spurious or distorted.

Just take her to Kanchanaburi and show her the museum and watch the look of horror on her face. Then the questions will start to roll out. Worked for my wife.

the wife had been to anzac day with me few times, she saw me take granfathers and great uncles medals out of the box the night before, my peacetime good behaviour gongs also came out.

i have explained some of ww1 and ww2 to her, but things really sank in after visiting kanchanaburi.

i asked her, did she ever ask her father about his service during the communist insurgency, she never had.

one lazy norh eastern sunday, out came the maps and his bits and pieces, he had 6 people as a highly interested audience.

  10. got the songkran update from the inlaws, in their village/suburb, no water play so far on the main road, on a street running paralell children playing and thats about it.

police with soldiers breath testing motorists on the road to the city, if the driver blows over the limit they are turned back to the village.

the annoying family who blast music from their stage setup given the no go order this year.

Nice to see there are some benefits to Martial Law.smile.png

the lads in green definately maintain a high profile from all reports, double timing around the area at various times, more regular flash bang games,

    working with bib more often.

but no reports of motorbikes skidding along the main road, and most important mil walked up to the local shop and came home dry.

  12. my wife mixes little with other thais in australia, the bitching, gambling, making face, all things she scorns.

gambling is entrenched in aussie life, but poker machines seem like a magnet too bored people ,with unfulfilling lives, asian and non-asian seem drawn to pokie venues.

i sometimes gamble, the wife hates it.

i went to the moobaan gambling house once, talk about desperate faces, quite a few mia farangs there both local and holidaying, they gave me bigger 'b*gger off looks' than the other gamblers.

ex-bargirls, teachers, policemen, shop keepers, farmers all were there, horrible place.
