  1. I saw a tv program where an American tourist brought in a pic of a wardrobe that she liked from a famous designer. She showed it to the tailor there. The tailor would duplicate this similar style with the fabric that the tourist wanted and got it done within 6 hours. The tourist said she saved like $120 bucks. Another instance was where a tourist was wearing a designer jacket and asked the tailor to to dupilcate it. Sure enough within hours, the same style jacket was made for much less. I was pretty amazed. What apparel stores in Bangkok can do this?

  2. Is there a place in Bangkok that sells good Vietnamese banh beo? It is basically rice cake sprinkled with crushed shrimp and with fish sauce poured over it.

  3. The Thai women that i know here in the U.S studying for their Masters and PHd as well as working as professionals are not vain. Very nice and probably some of the sweetest women i've ever met. I haven't been to Thailand yet, but i can speak from experience of the educated ones studying and working here in the U.S. I am waiting on word whether my next assignment will be in Thailand. There is a possibility i might be working in Vietnam instead.

  4. Where do the educated women in Thailand hang out? I heard about the seedy side of Bangkok and unlike alot of male foreigners, i am not interested. I know there are quite alot of educated women as i remember studying with alot of them in the U.S. Also, is it easy to tell the educated ones from the non-educated ones? Also, are there regular dance clubs or bars and not the other kind of bars if you know what i mean. Thanks.

  5. I've read that for chedis and temples, Thais simply like gold. It looks impressive. By contrast, you hardly see any gold at all in Japanese temples, and the buildings, pagodas and many images are made of wood.

I doubt there are many solid gold statues in Thailand, but I think the popularity of gold plate is partly that gold lasts for a gazillion years. Also, the cost means that a lot of people can make merit by contributing towards the construction. If you build a concrete statue, not many people can contribute.

One common practice is for people to stick pieces of gold leaf on statues or luk nimit (large spheres buried around an ordination hall) as an offering.

Thanks for the info!! Appreciate that.
