Red underwear and that it's it? He should have quit while he was ahead.

The better starting point would be to try to separate that which is on the ground from that which isn't.

And what of the vehicle that is following who does use his brakes in a gradual way but does nothing to avoid the collision? I would describe that as equally stupid as it was very avoidable IMO.

So you "confronted" and then you "challenged" and then you whipped out your "I am an attorney from the USA" hat? Dude, I don't feel a bit sorry for you. I would have laughed you right out of the office. I'll bet they are regaling themselves with the story of your visit over cocktails right now.

^ just about what it is now. A laughing stock for organization, design, and functionality in just about every area of human endeavor.

1 hour ago, sqwakvfr said:1)US Income Afffidavit was used.
2) I visited 3 Chiang Mai Visa agents. The fee for a Retirement Extension were all in the low 7000 Baht range(this included the 1900 fee to Immigration). Therefore, Agents collect about 5000 Baht as their fee. In terms of USD this is around $150 give or take a few dollars. It’s not chump change but right now I just wanted to get it over with and start planning for 2020.
I would call that very cheap to have that done and dusted for 7K Bt. To be able to stay for the next year for $150 USD is chump change.

Thai people lie a LOT but they are not very good at it. It's easy to catch them out . . . and then they will lie about that!

I don't wanna sound like a bad guy but the cops/rescue people certainly did more than I would have done. I would have just hosted his ass up rather than put anyone else over the side.

In our own countries a "Red Cross fair" might well mean a blood drive but won't be the case here. The Red Cross rules in Thailand make it difficult for older individuals to give blood no matter how much they may want to.

My extension of stay comes up next month. I'm pretty sure my days are now numbered after a good stay in Thailand as I am not going to bring the money into the country in the way that they might want me to.
Looks like November 2019 will be my last here.

This just came to me as an alert from the US Embassy . . . .
U.S. Mission in Thailand to Cease Providing Income Affidavit
October 26, 2018
Bangkok, THAILAND
As of January 1, 2019, the U.S. Embassy in Bangkok and the U.S. Consulate General in Chiang Mai will cease to provide the income affidavit for the purpose of applying for Thai retirement and family visas and will not notarize previous versions of the income affidavit. The Royal Thai Government requires actual verification of income to certify visa applicants meet financial requirements for long-stay visas. The U.S. government cannot provide this verification and will no longer issue the affidavits.

I'm pretty sure my days here in Thailand are numbered after some 13 years. Alas . . . .
I do not have 800K in a bank here nor am I willing to deposit that amount and I do not need 65K to live and I am also unwilling to bring that amount in. The heck of it is that I have several million dollars in brokerage accts in the States. I live quietly and modestly here and I think I am the very kind of guy that Thailand might want to have about.
My choice to NOT do those things and I'm not looking for sympathy. It's early days yet so we'll all just have to see how it works itself out.

Most of the time here in Thailand when I walk into a pharmacy I will find someone's granny behind the counter. The boss has set up a shop and now he/she is off to the hospital to work their day job.

The lads are fighting fires in sandals, tee shirts, and motorcycle helmets! It took them an hour to put it out because it them 45 minutes to get there. BUT . . . all's well that ends well.
