  1. I think most of the drink/drunkeness problems in the UK are caused by outdated licensing laws where bars etc have to close at 11pm.... people "run" to the pubs and drink as many drinks as they can in the alloted tim

N0, the drink /drunkeness problem in the Uk is due to the yob culture that has developed over the last few years. One can tinker aroun with licensing hours (and I agree this would help to some extent) but the root cause is the disgusting proletarian culture now dominating the UK.If you want a butchers closer to home have a look at the average UK expat living in Pattaya.

"the disgusting proletarian culture now dominating the UK"

When were you last in the UK boris ? Becuase when i was back a few months back I didn't see this dominating culture.

"If you want a butchers closer to home have a look at the average UK expat living in Pattaya."

I take it your german boris ?

They may be an element of d#@#head expat and tourist brits around, but generally we like girls who are out of high school, unlike a large % of germans 'living in pattaya'

On the subject, my obsevations are that 10 years ago Singapore closing times were much lower than thailand and are now up to 5am at some places. Percentage-wise tourism figures have risen much higher than Thailand over this period. Go figure. I think the same could be said for KL, though i don't those numbers.

  2. I'm renting monthly an apartment on Soi 13 sukhumvit (city studio apartments) and I have to move to Singapore this coming saturday 25th. My rental is paid till 5th of Oct and the management will not give me a refund.

If you or you know anyone that needs somewhere to stay for 10 days from 25 sept to 5th Oct, i'm prepared to do a favourable deal.

I pay 16000 Bhat for one month and will accept 4000 Bhat for the 10 days. The place will only lie empty and paid for otherwise. The management are happy if can do this.

It's a one bed studio apartment with full ubc access and utilities pre-paid.

If anyone's interested, pls reply and i'll give my mobile no.

    Thanks

    Dan

  3. Don't mean any disrespect with this, just funny how some dishes are mispelled or dictionariasized. Even the neatly printed and laminated ones.

How about the poor "Fired Egg" that couldn't hold a job.

Or the Chicken with "Horse's Urine". Yummy. (A Thai friend tried to explain this, but I still didn't get it.)

Or the ever mysterious: "Some kind of Chicken Food". Just plain laziness!

    ....so what?

    Expat's shouldn't learn thai?

    Whats the problem?

Try to manage a restaurant in the us , and write in thai for the thai tourist...could you do?

I cant see the problem here....learn thai or beat off!

don't be so bloody sensitive. I think it was meant in a light-hearted way.

:o some very touchy people here.

I bought a menu from a resteraunt (100 Bht i think...they thought i was crazy) in nathom si thamaratt a few years back. It was the funniest thing I ever read. We concluded some farang smoking something strong must have written it. I'll try and scan it here when i unpack

  4. do you feel that stricter immigration laws are necessary to help protect the thais from farangs who exploit the favorable exchange rates, and the normally good nature of the thai people, in order to pursue their indulgences...

    i'd go for otter

    does it matter ?

  5. i'm a brit and got into bkk with no visa from Singapore (though now wish i had, one less trip to camb) back in april. They did ask me at thai airways desk in s'pore why i didn't have onward ticket. I just said that i was travelling around for a few months and i'll buy one there, no problems.

    Laptop absolutely no problem.

  6. Gotta go there in a couple of weeks. Thought i might try this airline for a first time.

Thier website is a bit confusing with flights ranging from about 4500 bht to over 9000. and i can't understand all the codes and conditions.

Anyone done this route and can you pay cash at thier office as opposed to credit card transaction on the net ?

    thanks in advance.

  7. i thank you for frank, no nonsence, imforative reply.

I managed to find an online company that deals with scorpion protection clothing, so i feel more comfortable about visiting the LOS now. This same company also provides portable seating equipment with a 'pick and wash mode' so think i shall be able to enjoy my clams without a care in the world.

    Kind Regards

    Bernard

    :o

No problem. Always willing to help out a bro in need.

Can you send me a link to that scorpion site? Might take a look at importing wholesale volumes of that protective clothing. Ill set up a stand in patpong and hire street urchins to stop passers by " hey man , you need some scorpion protective clothing"

Can probably save a few lives. Or at least make a few bucks.

    Also wil check withb BOI.

well all I can say is that i feel saddened/abused/duped.

I duly followed thier purchase intructions and sent my 1345 pounds via western union money transfer and since, it seems they have closed thier website and

I have no notification when i will receive this study, kevlar lined clothing. All I did manage to save from thier webiste was this quite worrying picture apperently taken in lumpini park by one of thier company's 'international scorpion representatives'.

Without sufficient protection from these monstrous beasts and the fact i have no real equipment for floor clam eating, i'm having serious doubts about the los.

It may have to rhyll agian.

  8. The vet looked at the woman and said, "I'm sorry, but as I said, this is most

definitely, 100% certifiably, a dead duck." Then the vet turned to his computer

terminal, hit a few keys and produced a bill which he handed to the woman.

The duck's owner, still in shock, took the bill. "£150!" she cried. "£150 just to

tell me my duck is dead?!"

The vet shrugged. "I'm sorry. If you'd taken my word for it, the bill would have

been £20, but what with the Lab Report and the Cat Scan . .

  9. A woman brought a very limp duck into a veterinary surgery. As she laid her pet on

the table, the vet pulled out his stethoscope and listened to the bird's chest.

After a moment or two, the vet shook his head sadly and said, "I'm so sorry,

    Cuddles has passed

    away."

The distressed owner wailed, "Are you sure?"

"Yes, I am sure. The duck is dead," he replied.

"How can you be so sure," she protested. "I mean, you haven't done any testing on

him or anything. He might just be in a coma or something."

The vet rolled his eyes, turned around and left the room, and returned a few

moments later with a black Labrador Retriever. As the duck's owner looked on in

amazement, the dog stood on his hind legs, put his front paws on the examination

    table and sniffed the

duck from top to bottom. He then looked at the vet with sad eyes and shook his head.

The vet patted the dog and took it out, and returned a few moments later with a

beautiful cat. The cat jumped up on the table and also sniffed delicately at the

bird. The cat sat back on its haunches, shook its head, meowed softly and strolled

    out of the room.

  10. This is what a friend told me.

I plan to visit soon and am concerned about reports from my friend that Bangkok is rife with scorpions. That they come through hotel pipework late at night and sting you whilst you sleep, sometimes with fatal results.

Obviously this is quite worrying as i'm allergic to scorpion stings. I would just like to ask, are my fears justified ? and if so what precautions can i take?

one final question, if I may. Is it okay to eat seafood from the floor ?

    thanks in advance

    Good questions!!

Your friend is absolutley right. Thailand has the highest number of scorpions per square/meter in the world. Think its about .84 per SQ/M. (Higher in resort towns)

Ive lost several close friends to scorpion bites. But they says its not a painful death, so it cant be that bad..

On the eating seafood from the floor question. Sure its ok--There are several eat seafood off the floor restaurants here in the LOS. On the negative side it will only increase your chances of running into a scorpion.

    Have fun!!!!!

  12. This guy was lonely and so he decided life would be more fun if he had a pet. So he went to the pet store and told the owner that he wanted to buy an unusual pet.

After some discussion, he finally bought a centipede which came in a little white box to use for his house. He took the box back home, found a good location for the box, and decided he would start off by taking his new pet to the pub to have a drink. So he asked the centipede in the box, "Would you like to go to Frank 's with me and have a beer?"

But there was no answer from his new pet. This bothered him a bit, but he waited a few minutes and then asked him again, "How about going to the pub and having a drink with me. But again, there was no answer from his new friend and pet.

So he waited a few minutes more, thinking about the situation. He decided to ask him one more time; this time putting his face up against the centipede's house and shouting, "Hey, in there! Would you like to go to Frank's place and have a drink with me?
