  1. Hoping someone can advise.

Flying into Thailand again next week on a 30 day tourist visa.

Spending 5-7 days in Thailand then crossing over Laos Border into Vientiane by land with Thai GF.

Spending 3/4 days there, then crossing back by land.

Flying out of Thailand 7 days later

Will there be any problems leaving and entering Thailand from my initial 30 day visa stamp?

    Any info much appreciated

  2. If you are not in business to make money, anywhere in the world, don't open a business!

A year back I thought just like you about a business in Thailand. Nice and relaxing, not too much stress. Have my GF help run it. After research and now having spent a lot of time there, I realise Thailand is not the place for a 'relaxing' business. I think you will find running a business in Thailand is much harder than your home country. The successful business farangs i have met in Thailand treated their business like they would in their home country. As work that required sound planning and management.

It'd be less stressful to give your 20k away to a random person in the street, perhaps cheaper also in the long term.

  3. There are diviners that bet and essentially won Randi's prize .He has wiggled out a lot of proof by offering thin counter-proof.That has not been made public. I thought all this stuff was solid bunk before. Not anymore. However,I always try to ask people who may have had a reading.

I can give the email address of a guy who would blow the socks off the hard-nosed skeptic (which I was) with absolute accuracy, but only by PM.He is in top 1% in the world, but not showbizzy and a bit private.

Anyway, I don't discount a person immediately but hope maybe someone on here has had the 1.5 hour reading with her ! In my view 80% are winging it.10% are good ....the rest if you dig hard enough can amaze. Her, I'm not sure yet.

  4. 50 baht flag fall seems fair enough. Taxis in bkk are very cheap. I don't know how they make any money with the cost of fuel as it is.

One downside to the increase in flag fall to 50 baht is that more taxi drivers will only want to do shorter trips, as they will make more money at the end of the day. It can be difficult now to get some drivers to go the longer distances.

  5. Learn to speak Thai......you don't have to be fluent to ask simple questions. After a few such episodes with my wife (to a Toyota salesman: how many liters does the tank hold? to a EGAT employee: why does my electricity go off for hours at a time?...etc....questions my wife wasn't interested in asking), I learned enough to do the asking myself.

If you know a few basics and have a dictionary handy, you can look up a few vocab words before doing the asking. It's not as hard as you think.....and it might save a relationship. Just like most people have a notch at the bottom of their ear lobe, most Thais have a 'don't ask questions' gene. It's the way it is.

So what you do with your few basic Thai words and the dictionary when you get the answer spewed out in fluent Thai :D

    biggrin.png very true.

i always find my thai is much improved when the person im speaking to understands a little English

  6. Check out today B....., sorry the anti-Christ newspaper.

59% percent of Thai women cheat on their partners: 54% of Thai men cheat on their partners... ???????????????????????????

I think this whole fat balding farang with Thai girl drama/story is a bit of a tempest in a teapot! The real cultural Thai issue is woven into the above moral fabric of relationships in the Kingdom!

I'm sure the 'Durex condom' sex surevy was very scientific.. No known way they would want to promote more sex!

  7. Bino said it best...rent though Budget or Avis etc. They are more expensive , but..less risky

also...get your international Drivers license. some travel insurance will not cover you for injury/costs etc if u are not correctly licensed for the country you are in...s. a few bucks on an International Drives permit could save you thousands..

lastly...rent the vehicle through your hotel..they never require you to surrender your passport..You will pay more for the rental, but it is a negligible amount in the scheme of things...

(I have never been asked to show my license to any rental place (or hotel)...and i have an international Drivers permit)..

  9. I lost it at a fat old scottish farang at mcd's on silom one morning two months ago. The guy was yelling at the staff about his order and then started calling the poor girl a stupid XYZ expletive.

Then he turned to me and said "Why don't these ____ people learn English - it's an American Restaurant, been here for 20 years and sick of it".

To which I replied in a not so calm manner, "if you have been 20 years why don't you learn how to speak some Thai - I can barely understand your scottish accent, it's no wonder the girl rolled her eyes at you mumbling away".

Hope the guy is a member of TV by the way_ dick-head.

He is now working at a pizza shop. Here he is.:D

best laugh I've had all week laugh.gif

  10. So who's Graham Caterwell then? According to the 'net he's a British former banker. He doesn't appear to be an 'expert' on anything to do with floods, tides or rain.

A resident for nearly 40 years, very well connected, highly intelligent, Oxford graduate.Probably one of the most knowledgeable (about Thailand) foreigners in the Kingdom. Not an engineer or expert on flood management but I can't think of anyone as capable of assembling evidence, analysing it and drawing credible conclusions.

Not perhaps someone the typical Thai Visa member would come across however.

and yet u seem well versed on Graham's bio laugh.gif

When you have something constructive, please come back.

    errrrr....likewise whistling.gif

  12. Going on their names i would say middle east, must be australian citizens, these people give the real aussie a bad name, hope they get what they deserve.

It wasn't long ago that Australia had a reputation of it's citizens having bloodlines from it's past as a former British empire penal colony outpost. At least this is what was told to us North Americans 30+ years ago. Since then I've heard they've become proficient at somehow combining shellfish with a famous toy doll brand.

The reputation is very true. Many Australians can trace some part of their family tree to the Convicts of days gone by (no matter how tenuous the link -- we will claim a 3rd cousin to a great great Uncle type of thing - myself included biggrin.gif)...

Rather than hiding the fact the family has a criminal past, many Australians revel in this part of their history and will proudly inform you of their convict linkages. Why Australians can be so proud of their link to uneducated petty criminals of the 1800s is a mystery.

Perhaps these newer Australians, as in the Phuket robbery debacle, are merely trying to assimilate into Australian culture?

  13. As an Aussie, I hang my head in shame, I thought as a nation we were better then this.

Without trying to raise the raciest card the 'victims' names of Abdul Karim Al-Rajab and Zeidan Nouha are not common names for Australian born citizens and more akin to a resettled Australian then one born in my country.

But he and his partner are (and could always have been) Australian ... so apologies for their actions.

Bit over the top isn't it? Hang your head in shame? bit cringeworthy mate...

They tried an insurance scam, happens every day in OZ.

I don't apologise because they are Australian. They are obviously dodgy characters, but every country has them.

  14. G-day mate,, no trying to a smart ass but have a look at the Sydney phone book, the most common name in it is Nu,,,, never was a typical aussie name but sure as hell is now, many names in there like this two, sad but are now very typical,, poor old Smith lost out many moons ago.

Phone book isn't much to go by... I haven't had a landline for personal use (business, yes) for years ...nor been in the phone book.. many people i know would be similar
