  1. One of the biggest contributors to congestion is also the ridiculous road rules... The only place in the world where the answer to the driving test question "if the light is green and the traffic is stopped at the other side of the intersection, should you (a) wait until the traffic on the other side begins moving before proceeding into the intersection, or (B) move into the intersection and wait for the traffic to move?" The answer is (B)!!! Now the intersection is gridlocked, so the BIB might as well go for another coffer and leave the light green for a few more minutes!

    Only in Thailand!

  2. My company just offered me a job in the US, which I accepted this week, so now I gotta sell my bikes! Bummer.

I might keep one of them for when I get back occasionally, but the rest will need to go.

I haven't listed them yet, but if anyone's interested, let me know.

    2011 Ducati 1200 Multistrada, 2011 Kawasaki Vulcan 900, 2011 Er6f Ninja, 2012 250 Ninja. (may keep the Er6f but not decided yet.)

The interesting decision is what do I buy in LA... Definitely will buy another Multistrada, no question... But maybe a Diavel as well this time, and/or a mid size KTM. (and a 796 or 696 Monster for the wife)

I also paid a deposit on a 795, which I haven't tried to get back yet, so if anyone's considering a 795, I may have a way for you to jump the queue.

    Cheers.

  3. Typical though, that TAT cites only external factors as the cause of a gloomy outlook... Not mentioning the potential for increased risk from local or overseas extremist terrorist acts.

If you go to the typical tourist haunts, you will get the typical loutish behavior... If you stay away from those areas, it's a fun, respectful and meaningful celebration. You reap what you sow.

    Cheers.

  4. I ordered a 795 a couple of weeks ago. Sure, it's less horses than the Z1000, and a far cry from my Multi with Termi and race ECU, but it's a pleasure to ride.

It feels much smaller and lighter than my 650 Ninja, and handles beautifully. Low end torque is amazing, and quite a tall 1st gear, which is pleasant in the city. I'm 6'2" and it doesn't feel as cramped as the Ninja.

I enjoy riding my wife's 250 Ninja sometimes because it's totally different riding a very light bike that easy to throw around, and the 795 is the closest I've seen to the feel of the 250 with some decent horses!

    Cheers.

  5. I need only 4, but would take a dozen if they have them.

For everyone else. TV repair/electronic component shop Sukhumvit 71 between soi 15 - 17 opp. Nigerian Embassy. They've got a least 100, if not 200.

The other place if anyone is looking for a wide variety of electronic components, is Ban Mo Market, off Thanon Ban Mo, not far from China Town and Klong Thom Market. There is a mall in there with component sellers of every possible description.

Klong Thom is better for automotive stuff, but Ban Mo is the place if you're an electronics geek!

(several vendors who only sell resistors... Every possible size and rating imaginable.)

    Cheers.

  6. There's a 4 month wait on delivery at the moment. (hopefully it's shorter, not longer!)

Yes, of course I love my wife, but the other factor is that I work crazy hours and travel more than most flight attendants, and the one thing we try to make time to enjoy together is bikes and our bike friends, so for me, it's worth having what I want and what I enjoy!

    Cheers.

  7. I have a mesh jacket and mesh pants (Kimone, from Japan) I find them pretty comfortable even when stopped, with reasonable armor. I wear a separate spine protector, as it straps to your body rather than float around inside the jacket.

I usually shop at Paddock, simply because of their range in my size. I think the jacket and pants were around 20-25,000baht all up, but they do have regular specials and a decent range of cheaper gear. Panda is also pretty good, but I seem to always end up back at Paddock.

    Cheers.

  8. As if I dont't have enough bikes already... Just ordered a new Monster 795 for the wife. (she thinks the 250 Ninja is under powered, so this should do the trick for a while!)

I took the Monster for a test ride the other day, and was very impressed. For it's size, it's a very comfortable riding position, and I'm 190cm. Good even power delivery, and while 1st is pretty tall, that's a good thing in Bangkok, and it has plenty of torque to make it not a problem. It's very compact and nimble, and a delight to ride.

With a Multistrada, Vulcan, 650 Ninja, 250 Ninja, Scoopy and 125 Monkey for the son, something will have to go to make room! I had the 2011 650 Ninja advertised recently, a few bites, but no serious offers. I might put it on mocyc.com to a wider audience.

Anyone else with the same disease? Maybe we can start a local chapter of Bikers Anonymous!

    Cheers.

  9. I have some connections with an orphanage through the charitable foundation of my company. They have an orphanage at Putthamonthon and one south of Kanchanaburi. We previously organized a car rally starting at Putthamonthon and ending at a resort near the Kanchanaburi facility, then spent the morning with the kids, and headed home Sunday afternoon. A great weekend all round. A similar thing that included heading down to Erawan and the Si Sawat loop could be fun.

If there was interest, I might be able to tee something's up. Probably better to do a flat donation, that way we could make the presentation on the day.

May take a little time to organize.

    Cheers.

  10. You have had the engine rebuilt so you now have full compression.

If you try to start it when the piston is at the bottom of its stroke, you are not getting a full compression stroke and it will kick back against the compression before it gets past the top of the stroke and fires.

When you start it, push the kick start down a couple of times gently till you feel that it's past the ports and you have compression, then let it back up and kick it from there. That way you are sure to it will get past the top of the stroke and fire. (with full compression,

  11. You can get a copy of the Thai export forms from the GT Rider website, or you can get them at the border.

Roads in Cambodia are pretty bad. Potholes and unsealed sections all over the place. Drivers are even worse... Watch out for the bus passing a bus passing a car passing an ox cart, all on your side of the road... No quarter given!

Tony is correct, no headlight during daylight, but it's not illegal to have no headlights at night! Many bikes and ox carts getting around with no lights, and many of the cars drive on high beam permanently, regardless of what's coming the other way.

    Cheers.

  13. Yep, I bet their collecting all the fines they can get, then confiscating the exhausts and reselling them to the bike shops to refit to other bikes so they can collect more fines and make a tidy profit on the resales... Nice little scam. Plus the local superintendent finds another opportunity to get his picture in the newspaper!

It depends where you live, and it depends on the mood of the BiB at the time. Being illegal has nothing to do with it in LOS, other than giving them a little more leverage than normal.

    Cheers.

  14. Here is the contact number for the guy at Dr Bike with good English...

    James Mathis086 990 5618

His card says International Marketing Manager, so I think he takes care of their advertising etc, rather than doing the work, but he gave me his card in case I need anything in the future.

Lat Phrao is no longer flooded, so they should be open again, or soon.

    Cheers.

  15. Dr Bike in Chok Chai 4 do a lot of work on older imported bikes. They tend to specialize in cruisers with their new parts, but their are always 4 or 5 sport bikes out front as well, and in their workshop.

Don't know about their price or quality on rebuild work, but the few things I've bought from them and what I see in their workshop that they are working on at the time, they could be worth a go.

There's a guy there with good English... I've got his name and number somewhere, I'll post it if I can find it.

Anyone had substantial work done there?

It would be worth checking what they have out front, there may be something that interests you.

    Cheers.
