สัสๆ is in some slang dictionaries on the net.

(คำอะไรก้อได้) + สัสๆ - เช่น เจอลูกหมาเงี้ย จาบอก เห้ยยย น่ารักสัสๆ เป็นต้น แสดงอาการว่ามันเป็นความรู้สึกที่ดีมากๆ แบบว่าน่ารักม๊ากมาก เป็นต้น

I have one more question, if you don't mind. Let's say I'm with a friend (a girl) and somebody asks if she's my girlfriend. I want to reply with "no, only friends". Would that be "mai chai, puuan diiao"? (I know I could just say "mai chai faan" but I'm only using this situation as an example.) Thanks for all the help!

In your example, although not entirely grammatically correct without the classifier 'khon', if you use diao it would mean more something like she is my only friend instead of 'just friends'.

You could use 'khae' as in pen khae puan, but I think GooEng's suggestion sounds nicer.

Btw. แค่ / kae has a falling tone, not rising

eng เอง is mostly used to express that you did something, as opposed to someone else, like going somewhere or doing something yourself ไปเอง / ทำเอง / ซื้อเอง.

diao is mostly used to express singularity. for example: one minute นาทีเดียว / one time ครั้งเดียว / being by yourself อยู่คนเดียว

The most commonly used shortened version of สวัสดี in my experience is หวัดดี. Mainly used among friends.

I have also been looking for those, but have only found the same stuff you have. let's hope some of the other forum members know where to find them. I sure there must be some out there. I always see people read novels in the recording booth at the B2S, but I have no idea where those recordings end up ...

It's a kind of wordplay / anagram. If you switch a vowel and/or a consonant of the first and the last word "โล่นะเด็กงั๊ก" becomes รักนะเด็กโง่ and "เบอร์ว่ารักแถบ" becomes แบบว่ารักเธอ

After the first one didn't get him any success his message for the person who suggested it was เบืองว่าไม่ได้แหรบ (--> แบบว่าไม่ได้เรื่อง)

It's shown in this video coming before the adjective, e.g. โคตรแพง, but I've also heard it come after, e.g. .

In my experience when it's placed after the adjective it's mostly used in double form, as in แพงโคตร ๆ

I have no experience with the Kindle myself, but Stuart Jay Raj did a review of the Kindle vs the Ipad for language learning on his blog that will probably be of interest to you.

If you're looking for a good TV show, there's one on TV Mon-Fri at 9am (sorry, can't remember the channel, but it's also on the radio 106.0 MHz). It features four Thai women talking a little about the latest news, but mostly stuff about diets, relationships etc. Not normally my thing, but I found that it was the first TV show that I could understand more than 50% of, so it might be good practice for those not quite ready to take on the lakorns.

The show you're talking about is probably ผู้หญิงถึงผู้หญิง on Channel 3.

Thai movies are indeed of way higher quality and much more enjoyable than the lakorns. But one thing I like about the lakorns for listening practice is that within the same series the writer tends to use the same words over and over again (as well as reusing the same plots over and over, but that's another story), making it a lot easier to remember them. The advantage of the longer duration of a lakorn vs a movie is you get a lot more exposure to the repeated new word or expression and thus a better understanding of how and when it's used. Too bad most of those lakorns are so crappy. And it's so hard to find a lakorn where the actors actually talk instead of just screaming hysterically most of the time.

Thai Community Radio puts out a half-hour current affairs program every day, available as an MP3 download.

The presenters generally speak clearly, and there is a wide variety of voices to listen to.

The Thai Community Radio website oddly enough seems to host some blog on business and real estate now. Does anyone know if they stopped broadcasting or have a new website maybe? Or if there is another site where some of their programs can be found? It would be a shame if their 1000+ podcast catalog isn't available somewhere anymore ...

Thanks for the insights on the "advanced" modules at Piammitr. Very useful. So in your experience Piammitr tends to have enough students to run these group courses on a continuous basis or are willing to run the 'group' courses for a single student?

The number of students studying advanced modules seems to vary a lot. I had no problem studying continuously. Sometimes I agreed to study another module than I had planned at first because there were other students also wanting to do that particular module that month, or I changed from the afternoon to the morning period to be grouped up with other students. And sometimes they organized a module for me alone. A bit of flexibility from both sides and everything worked out fine...

If you make it clear you wish to study on a continuous basis, I'm sure they'll find a way to make it happen.

I studied most of the so-called advanced modules at Piamitr. IMO the most useful and interesting ones are the "social problems" and "newspaper 2" modules. The "Social Problems" module is especially useful if you want to watch (or read) the news. "Newspaper 1" uses a terribly outdated textbook filled with decades old newspaper articles with very little relevance to today. Luckily when I did "Newspaper 1" I was the only student in the class and I persuaded the teacher to ditch the textbook and we worked through articles of a magazine I brought to class. I would recommend to just skip "Newspaper 1" and go straight to "Newspaper 2" where every day the teacher brings one article from a recent paper to class. The "Thai culture and traditions" had some interesting and some less interesting lessons. Still worth it, but less useful then the Soc.Pr. and Newsp. modules IMO.

I found the teachers and managment at Piamitr very flexible and accomodating and would defenitely recommend them. Good luck with your studies...

I was kinda hoping the ED visa could be renewed like some other Non-Immigrant type visa, because - like David555 mentions - the year-long multiple entry aspect of it was really convenient. And I gather they are hard to get in the region. Ah well...

You are correct to assume I've been doing the three months border runs. My visa was issued about a year ago. For the largest part of the last year I've been in the country studying and doing the border runs. I came back in the beginning of December after having been away for 5 months. My visa will expire on the 14th of this month. My latest "permission to stay" stamp will allow me to stay until the beginning of March. I plan to continue to study at least for a couple more months, and probably more.

So if I understand you correctly, after my latest "permission of stay" stamp runs out I can go to immigration and keep getting extensions of stay provided I have the correct paperwork from the school, even though my original visa has expired? Or did I get that wrong?

With the paperwork from the school, would extending the validity of the original multiple entry ED visa with another year be an option?

Hi All. I haven't been able to find the answers anywhere else on the net, and I hope maybe some people in the know here might be able to answer my Question. I've been studying Thai at a private language school with a multiple entry ED visa issued in my home counrty. My visa is about to expire and since I plan to continue studying I wonder if it is possible to extend the validity of the visa here at immigration, or whether I have to apply for a new one altogether.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...
