  2. Yingluck's wealth is mostly from stocks she holds in many firms, including SC Asset Corporation, which rose in value during her tenure.

So if this is the main reason for her gain in wealth, then why is there a slant in the article which implies that her rise in wealth is from corruption? This article does nothing except fuel the propaganda for the PDRC, I think what everyone really wants to see is hard facts proving her misconduct beyond a reasonable doubt.

Should a sitting PM have involvement in the financial market ?

At least her brother tried to hide his share holdings in the names of domestic staff, security guards and Daisy the family water buffalo.

Does anyone know where daisy is now ?

  3. HI Joe, Thank you for your update. In the interest of saving money, if I was to leave on the 25th to Vientiane via Nok air's fly and ride service, would I get manage to get through the border without being charged an overstay?

I know when flying direct from airport to airport they will usually give you one day's grace but if going across at a border crossing will I still receive this same grace period of one day or will it be counted as a one day overstay??

If I was going to fly to Vientiane on the 24th (which is the day my visa will expire) what would be the last time I would be able to make it across the border on Nok Air's fly and ride service?? Does anybody know? Reason I'm asking is that I will have to work this day and would only be able to leave Bangkok late afternoon and am doing my best to get all this done ASAP and without wasting any money.

  4. I have resigned my job and will finish on the 24th of June. I am visiting the immigration office on the 23rd with our HR department to cancel my work permit and visa.

I need to know whether I must leave immediately on the 24th out of the country to Vientienne where I will apply for a double entry tourist visa or can I request a 7 day extension on my visa which will then give me another week before I leave to Laos.

Is this possible?? The information I received from my HR department was that it could NOT be done, but I'm not sure they really know or not.

  5. Hi, I am also have a similar case as i have resigned my job and my work permit will be cancelled on the 24th June 2014, same day that my visa expires. Can I apply for the 7 day visa extension on this day and have it granted same day? Is this the maximum extension I can apply for? and if longer what is the maximum possible? what is cost etc?

When I leave the country obviously I should travel by air so I am wondering which is the cheapest port to travel to and apply for a tourist visa until I start a new job and get another work permit and what will be the maximum stay possible without having to travel again. I am an Australian National.

Seven days is longest you can get. Cost will be 1900 baht. It will be done while you wait.

You don't have to fly out of the country.

Vientiane will do a 2 entry tourist visa that would give you almost 6 months with only one border run. Nok Air has a fly/ride service via Udon Thani to Vientiane. Or you can fly Air Asia to Udon and take a van to the bridge in Nong Kai.

Penang will do a single entry.

Thank you Ubonjoe, this information is very helpful.

So the stay required in Vientiane would be an overnight one I guess? How about the cost of the double entry tourist visa?

  7. This is the same story every year but nothing ever is done or improves! Until a strong stance from Bangkok is taken regarding the police/council corruption and gang tactics from groups such as the unlicensed taxi drivers and jet ski operators that are widespread throughout Phuket the major economy for Phuket & Thailand (Tourism) will suffer due to this small group of criminals who continually highjack any major growth in Phuket's market. The continual annual seasonal disgrace that plagues the international media regarding Phuket is like a broken record that just keeps on playing year on year. It's so strange that for such a tranquil, scenic place there is so much unsightly rubbish strewn all over the Island and building and planning codes broken allowing beautiful tree lined hills overlooking the ocean to be built upon. Will be interesting to read this same story again next year as I have for the past two years.

  8. Thanks for the info all and my apologies to Warpspeed, although your comment was very "to the point", technically it seems yes you are correct. I think it will be easier just to take a charter with a group for a few days.

As far as the license is concerned, can anyone offer clear directions on where to go to get it, how much and how long it takes? If you have a boat license from another country does that make it any faster??

  9. Does anyone know what happened to my original thread??? It was about Surin Beach and the recent instances of crime and corruption. I know that this may be boring to some of you and you'd rather bag each other but maybe there is someone out there, anyone who has something related to the original topic to discuss??

Has anyone had any such experience or been a witness to any bad experiences similar to what I discussed in my opening statement?

  10. The doomsaying comes from the fact the next full Moon on the 21st will be a total lunar eclipse. This is where the full Moon fell on the morning of the tsunami in 2004 and the two stars the Sun and Moon fall in have a particulary bad reputation in the East as being stars of disaster and misfortune.

The Sun will be in a constellation the Hindus call Mula and the full Moon in one called Ardra, both have reputations for trouble when certain planets move through them. The attacks on September 11th in America also took place on this axis with the Moon in Ardra opposite Mars in Mula. Mars of course is the planet of war.

Vedic astrology is vastly different from the astrology that is used in the west. It is very complicated and as a system it is basically the same one that has been used for thousands of years in India. Western astrology or the tropical zodiac is simply wrong in its calculations and is a watered down almost comical version of the authentic Vedic version. The Greeks at the time of Ptolemy forgot about the precession of the equinox.

I studied and researched it for 10 years after being originally taught by an elderly Sri Lankan man who made some brilliant predictions I witnessed. I just had to learn more after seeing a few things happen. People are skeptical which is understandable but when you make a comment bagging a subject you know nothing about it then becomes ignorance. Mind you I'd say 99.9% of public astrologers are shit talkers either way. The best Vedic astrologers I know don't even practice it for money, I can count them on 3 fingers.

The genuine astrologer cannot win either way, I made a lengthy attack on George Bush based on the horoscope for the time of his inauguration that was posted online. ( Most people don't even know the U.S President is elected in November but not sworn in until midday January 20 as the basic horoscope of that day is considered powerful.) I said he would lead America into war, ruin the economy and people would live in fear while he ruled. I was attacked as a "doomsayer" and never even once did anybody say I was correct. I also predicted the resignation of Thaksin, the EXACT day 6 months before he resigned. I posted it on webboards but again people just think you made a lucky guess.

The current doomsaying in Thailand is not without precedent. When the massive economic crash came it was also at the time of a total lunar eclipse. The Thais were all going to the temple dressed in black with black chickens etc to pay homage to Rahu the mythical demon that appears to swallow the Moon during a total lunar eclipse.

When I was doing my research I had discussions with people ranging from a scientist at N.A.S.A to an Indian guy working at the Pentagon. The guy at N.A.S.A said that during the peak of the solar flare cycle the earth is bombarded with all sorts of violent energies that effect everything from radars to animal behaviour. I was extremely interested in solar eclipses as earthquakes often follow in countries where the eclipse was seen.

Not every psychic is a crackpot, I know a lady who worked for the FBI and also the Goldman family in the OJ Simpson case. She told me something about what was to happen to me and it happened almost word for word. She consulted me to see if Vedic astrology confirmed or contradicted her psychic visions. She has a TV show now.

I did a lot of research as the internet is an amazing study resource to look into events that happened in the past. I'm pretty good at working out exactly when an event will occur, the trouble is defining exactly what, as good or bad are relative terms. As an example, winning the lottery is actually shown to be something not so good in Vedic astrology. People don't realise all these subjects like Yoga, Vedic astrology and Ayurveda are only tools for a person to realise the unicity and intelligence of the energy that controls our universe and existence.

You don't even have to be a seer to know what is going on, Wiki Leaks is quietly funded by George Soros who was behind the last economic crash in Asia. I'm expecting more bail outs and more economic woes. I don't actually do much astrology now other than observe. As for a tsunami, just watch the animals, they'll know a long time before any of us idiots do. :D

Thank you logbags, your intelligent and insightful post I'm sure has helped to put a few feet in the mouths of those who have little understanding of astrology. As a person who has some belief but little understanding I find your knowledgable reply interesting however how can they actually say what type of occurrence will happen on that day? Sure maybe all of the same cycles and alignments of the planets etc are the same as the day that the first Tsunami happened but does that really mean that another actual Tsunami will happen on that day or could it be any other of many types of disaster or natural occurrence even such as a bad storm??? how can you actually know what the event will be??

  11. Not allowed to self drive a motorboat in Thailand, no rentals available...

Says who??? please provide your source of information as actually there are plenty of available boats i can rent to self drive however they are not to our specification. Mostly are large cruising motor yachts and larger than we require.

  12. interesting, as i've seen a motor boat for rent.. however it wouldn't suit your specs.

exactly, I've found plenty of motor boats that i can rent and self drive however they are all cruising size and big $$..... we're looking for something small and easy to launch which we can spend the day fishing from. If i wanted to go out and buy my own motor boat tomorrow who says I can't drive it myself?

  13. We have four Rai of unused land between Surin & Kammala which is covered in Rubber trees. So far we have not harvested the trees but would like to find someone who can do it for us. Obviously we will share the profit 50/50 with the farmer. If anyone knows of anyone who can help me please PM me.

  14. Can anyone help me with finding a motor boat for rent that we can self drive suitable for fishing. It doesn't need to have a cabin but must have a canopy for protection from the weather. I've tried looking for companies online but most only advertise charters except for sailing self drives.

If anyone knows of a company or has a boat they are willing to rent we would want it for a minimum of 2 days to maximum of one week after the 15th of January. Please contact me via this post with details.

  15. Surin Beach, a haven for tourists and locals who wish to escape from the overdeveloped, over populated and unsafe beaches further south. Those beaches unfortunately for some time now have been suffering from scams and bullying by local gangs who claim ownership of the beaches and business areas and now Surin Beach also has finally fallen foul this season to some unsavory locals who are set on spoiling this tranquil location for those who reside here.

With groups of jet ski operators moving in this season even though Surin is not one of the 5 beaches where these noisy and dangerous machines are allowed and at the same time bringing their scams with them where they fake damage to the machines and bully tourists into paying exorbitant fees for the so called repairs, there must be someone in the local municipality who is aware of these unsavory activities.

Additionally only this week we witnessed a young lady selling fruit amongst a beach full of tourists bashed by 5 men in front of everyone in mid daylight and told to stay off the beach selling her fruit as this beach was owned by this gang. The poor woman is still in hospital and lucky not to have suffered more severe damage to herself after being hit with a chair by one of these criminals.

These two activities alone is enough to chase families away who will bring their children to this beach for it's safety and peacefulness bringing with them much needed tourist dollars which help to keep this local community alive.

A dangerous beach it is not but if these types of criminal elements are not kept away it soon will be as the gangs will think they can get away with whatever they want as we have seen in other areas of Phuket.

If you ever witness or have a problem like these please contact the Police immediately and help us clean up Surin Beach as I for one will not sit back and allow it to be ruined by a group of wannabe gangsters who only think that the beach is here for them to spoil.

I look forward to the return of a safe and peaceful Surin Beach in the near future,
